Book New Frontiers in Contemporary Missiology Southern African Perspectives

Download or read book New Frontiers in Contemporary Missiology Southern African Perspectives written by Henry Mbaya and published by UJ Press. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book epitomizes the understanding that to excel, you have to believe in yourself and your ability to achieve, and that part of this process is enabled by mentorship. Looking at the history of women in science or academia, it is apparent that women have struggled long and hard to be recognised as legitimate scientists or academics and that women of colour are confronted with double jeopardy of both race and gender, not only in South Africa but at a global level. Gender equity in science or academia and racial diversity are moral and necessary imperatives. In academia, women are strongly represented in the early phases of their academic careers, yet there is an attrition in the number of women who are associate professors and full professors. This “leaky pipeline” not only wastes women's education and potential, preventing much-needed diversity in academia but, more profoundly, restricts women's goals and rights.

Download or read book Constants in Context written by Stephen B. Bevans and published by Orbis Books. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mission is handicapped without a sound biblical theology of mission and an understanding of the history of mission leading up to our current context. Constants in Context offers both of these elements. It is mission theology in historical perspective and/or a history of mission that is grounded theologically. The authors describe it as a systematic theology with mission at its core, and a church history shaped by the constant but always contextual Christian traditions. Furthermore it is a constructive contribution to how mission theology needs to be practical and lived out through today's church and in our world. Written collaboratively by Roman Catholic writers Stephen Bevans and Roger Schroeder, both Missionaries of the Divine Word (SVDs). It is a particularly insightful in regard to the history and the various streams of Catholic mission but it also addresses and learns from the other traditions of the church. In fact, one of the book's strengths is its attention to neglected aspects and hidden stories of church and mission history. As a result it is gratifying to be inspired by non-European mission, women in mission and various forgotten or often ignored branches of the church. The book is in three sections: first, there is a framework for cultural contexts and theological constants; second, an in-depth exploration of historical stages and different models for mission; and third, a presentation of theological frameworks for mission. The third section concludes with a case for 'mission as prophetic dialogue' being the most appropriate model for 21st century mission." -- Amazon.com.

Download or read book Mission Science written by Carine Dujardin and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-26 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science as an instrument to justify religious missions in secular society The relationship between religion and science is complex and continues to be a topical issue. However, it is seldom zoomed in on from both Protestant andCatholic perspectives. By doing so the contributing authors in this collection gain new insights into the origin and development of missiology. Missiology is described in this book as a “project of modernity,” a contemporary form of apologetics. “Scientific apologetics” was the way to justify missions in a society that was rapidly becoming secularized. Mission & Sciencedeals with the interaction between new scientific disciplines (historiography, geography, ethnology, anthropology, linguistics) and new scientific insights (Darwin’s evolutionary theory, heliocentrism), as well as the role of the papacy and what inspired missionary practice (first in China and the Far East and later in Africa). The renewed missiology has in turn influenced the missionary practice of the twentieth century, guided by apostolic policy. Some “missionary scholars” have even had a significant influence on the scientific discourse of their time.

Book Understanding Christian Mission

Download or read book Understanding Christian Mission written by Scott W. Sunquist and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2013-09-15 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive introduction helps students, pastors, and mission committees understand contemporary Christian mission historically, biblically, and theologically. Scott Sunquist, a respected scholar and teacher of world Christianity, recovers missiological thinking from the early church for the twenty-first century. He traces the mission of the church throughout history in order to address the global church and offers a constructive theology and practice for missionary work today. Sunquist views spirituality as the foundation for all mission involvement, for mission practice springs from spiritual formation. He highlights the Holy Spirit in the work of mission and emphasizes its trinitarian nature. Sunquist explores mission from a primarily theological--rather than sociological--perspective, showing that the whole of Christian theology depends on and feeds into mission. Throughout the book, he presents Christian mission as our participation in the suffering and glory of Jesus Christ for the redemption of the nations.

Book Contemporary Missiology Concepts and Contextualization Mission in Context and The Cape Town Commitment

Download or read book Contemporary Missiology Concepts and Contextualization Mission in Context and The Cape Town Commitment written by Henrik H. Koch and published by ©Copyright Koch Publishing, a division of Koch Import LLC company. This book was released on 2017-12-30 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short introduction book will aim on giving a clear overview of Concepts, Contextualization and Theology in Missiology - Mission. We will look into the church meeting documents Mission in Context and the Cape Town Commitment (the Lausanne Movement). It will describe different elements of what role contextualization plays, what it means to do mission and to be a church in the world, with the task of evangelizing the world. Whenever you see the word Cape Town Commitment I will use the acronym CT, and for Mission in Context I will use the acronym MIC. It's clear that all subjects that are covered in both documents, CT and MIC, are too much to go in-depth. Areas of focus and concentration will be: – Theology of Mission – Practical Context – Church and the Missionary – The Task of Evangelizing – Communication and Contextualization, sender/receiver – Today's Culture, Mission and Strategy in Context I’ve chosen not to focus on the history of mission, but to focus instead on the present situation for the church, God's people, and people that have not yet received Jesus. I see the significance to look back on the history of mission and use this knowledge from the past for guidance into the future. The focus of this task is to review the context of mission in a practical approach. The book is divided into two main parts: 1. The first one emphasizes the missionary theology and contextualization, and 2. The other part practical contextualization. We will also look into and shed light on the core elements of Christian Mission on those terms. I have chosen to include certain points based on the limitation of this task. The reason that I have chosen to not speak about certain points is so that I can go further in depth on the topics I have chosen. List over topics that are kept out or not discussed in depth: – Economical Perspective – Ecological Perspectives – Communicate with other Specific Faiths – Mention how to Approach Indigenous People and Cultures – Historical Events and History – War and Conflicts – Critique of Foreign Cultures and Custom By Henrik H. Koch, Author & Editor B.A in Church Education and Practical Theology NLA University College, Norway
