This book was released on 2015-09-03 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is a worldwide disease with a significant morbidity and mortality; it is the leading cause of non-ulcer dyspepsia, peptic ulcers and gastric tumors, including low-grade mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue-lymphoma and adenocarcinoma. In addition, it has also been recognized that the interaction between H. pylori and non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs is damaging to the gastroduodenal mucosa. H. pylori treatment still remains a challenge for physicians, since no current first-line therapy is able to cure the infection in all treated patients. This issue will serve to update gastroenterologists on current therapies, evaluation and management of disease progression, and the future of management of H. pylori infection.

Book Helicobacter Pylori

Download or read book Helicobacter Pylori written by John Holton and published by Clinical Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most common infections in the world, and while most of those colonised by H. pylori will remain symptom free, about 20% of them may develop serious gastroduodenal disease including peptic ulcers or gastric cancer. H. pylori is the only bacterium linked to the development of cancer and consequently it is an important focus of research. Moreover, H. pylori may be related to a wide range of extra-gastrointestinal disease such as coronary heart disease, stroke, migraine, rosaceae and gall bladder disease. And, although the incidence of H. pylori infection is falling in industrialized countries it remains an important pathogen globally and as the prevalence of antibiotic resistance increases, the eradication rate of the organism is falling with a consequent failure to cure the ulcer disease. Against this background, this new work sets out the pathology, clinical presentation and options for treatment of H. pylori infection. A reference not only for clinicians but also microbiologists, it provides in a single volume an uptodate summary of our current knowledge of this organism and the many ways in which it impacts upon public health in all parts of the world.

Book Helicobacter Pylori

Download or read book Helicobacter Pylori written by Alexandra Curr and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helicobacter pylori is classified as a gram-negative, spiral and microaerophilic bacterium and considered one of the most common causes of gastric infections worldwide. It was isolated from gastric biopsy specimens from patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers in 1983.Non-pylori Helicobacter species may occasionally colonize the human stomach causing gastritis, but the prevalence is unknown. As such, in this compilation antral biopsies from 484 patients were examined for H. pylori by culture and quantitative polymerase chain reaction. In addition, the biopsies were examined for Helicobacter spp. by polymerase chain reaction. The authors summarize and compare the historical and novel methods used for the diagnosis and treatment of H. pylori infection. This collection goes on to assess how knowledge about the characteristics, advantages, and limitations of various diagnostic methods for H. pylori allows for the choice of the appropriate technique in the clinical practice or research setting.Lastly, the authors propose that every child with suspected H. pylori infection should be carefully evaluated by a pediatric gastroenterologist before deciding whether to perform upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and any eradication therapy.

Book Clinical Pharmacology and Therapy of Helicobacter Pylori Infection

Download or read book Clinical Pharmacology and Therapy of Helicobacter Pylori Infection written by C. Scarpignato and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are few areas in medical science where the information explosion exceeds the capacity for a busy clinician to keep up to date. One such area is Helicobacter pylori. Since the first paper identifying H. pylori was published in 1983, great progress has occurred concerning H. pylori and its causal relationship to gastritis, duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer and gastric cancer. In a field which is moving so fast, a lot of new information is continuously reported at medical meetings, often published only in abstract form, without further appearing in peer-reviewed journals. Even gastroenterologists, unless actively involved in the field of H. pylori research themselves, find it difficult to keep abreast of the field. Although several volumes and monographs have appeared on H. pylori, this book is the only one entirely devoted to the clinical pharmacology and therapy of the Helicobacter infection. It is clear that the real-world indications for H. pylori treatment are being broadened, and it is impossible to turn back the tide of prescribing by primary care physicians or gastroenterologists. Some effective and safe eradication regimens are available today but several new ones, often simple variations of an old scheme, are being proposed as equally effective and safe. This volume, which covers the treatment of all the H. pylori-related digestive diseases as well as the management of treatment failure and reinfection, will be a valuable reference text for all those physicians who pursue the cure of this common human infection.

Book Helicobacter pylori in Human Diseases

Download or read book Helicobacter pylori in Human Diseases written by Shigeru Kamiya and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers a wealth of contributions on the virulence factors and pathogenic mechanism of Helicobacter pylori, prepared by leading international experts. In addition, it explores the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment with drugs and probiotics, and prophylaxis by vaccination, reflecting the latest advances. H. pylori is a Gram negative microaerophilic bacterium that can produce various gastric diseases including gastritis, gastroduodenal ulceration, gastric cancer and gastric MALT lymphoma. Although efforts to combat H. pylori using a combination of proton pump inhibitor and several antimicrobial drugs have significantly decreased the burden of these gastric diseases, the microbial epidemiology and gastric pathogenesis following H. pylori infection are still not fully understood. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable resource not only for basic microbiologists, but also for researchers in the fields of pathology, biochemistry and genomics, as well as medical students/scientists.

Book Integrative Gastroenterology

Download or read book Integrative Gastroenterology written by Gerard E. Mullin and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-27 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digestive complaints have become increasingly common. Recent statistics show that gastrointestinal complaints account for nearly a third of all visits to primary care doctors and that nearly one in two Americans suffer from digestive disease. Millions more suffer from conditions such as migraine headaches, arthritis, mood disorders, chronic fatigue, asthma, allergies, and menstrual dysfunction, which are all related to a disorder in digestive health. Despite the evidence in support of integrative approaches to treatment and prevention of digestive symptoms, these approaches are largely overlooked in treating gastrointestinal disorders. Rather, treatment plans tend to be exclusively pharmacologically based and have appreciable toxicity. Integrative Gastroenterology, Second edition, is a comprehensive guide to helping health care practitioners understand and appreciate how to manage patients with gastrointestinal conditions integrating conventional and complimentary approaches. This text reviews the latest advances in science and research with regards to the gut microbiome, physiology, and interconnections between the gut and other organ systems. Coverage includes a diverse range of treatment methods, such as probiotics, meditation, massage, yoga, supplements, special diets, energy medicine, homeopathy, and acupuncture, as well as a special section devoted to mind-body medicine in digestive health and disease. In discussing unconventional treatments, the authors address many of the controversies that surround the remedies.
