Book Advanced Calculus Revised Edition

Download or read book Advanced Calculus Revised Edition written by Lynn Harold Loomis and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

Book Third Semester Calculus

Download or read book Third Semester Calculus written by Mimi Rasky and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chicken of Calculus? If you've ever been lost trying to solve a calculus problem, this step-by-step guide is your salvation! * Never be mystifed again! Solutions contain lots of intermediate steps not found in other calculus student-solutions manuals. * Includes more examples that are completely worked out in detailed step-by-step fashion. (Many texts assume?wrongly?that students can figure out the missing steps on their own.) * No assumptions that the student has excellent algebra skills (as most books do), so even the basic steps that include algebra concepts are worked out. * Also included are examples of what NOT to do. Many instructors find that this is the ?missing link? between the textbook and the student. * Divided into three sections: Part 1 contains study tips, hits and ?tricks? for students that are usually not covered explicitly in calculus texts; Part 2 includes a huge test bank; Part 3 has completely worked out examples for the test bank. * Embodies a conversational and colloquial style, avoiding the traditional technical and dry presentation approach found in most books on mathematics.

Book Calculus for Everyone

Download or read book Calculus for Everyone written by Mitch Stokes and published by . This book was released on 2020-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for only two kinds of people: those who are interested in science and math, and those who aren't. And so, motivated by this powerful idea, Calculus for Everyone presents the mathematics of change in an extremely effective way for anyone with a first-year course in algebra. Yet it does so without dumbing calculus down. In fact, Calculus for Everyone is not only for students who would have never dreamt of taking calculus, it is also for those who have already taken a standard calculus course, as well as for those who will go on to take such a course Based on more than a decade of classroom experience, this book provides mastery of calculus's core by focusing on the foundational concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals, explaining how all three are united in the fundamental theorem of calculus. Moreover, Calculus for Everyone explains how the story of calculus is central to Western culture, from Plato in ancient Greece, to today's modern physics. Indeed, this book explains why calculus is needed at all-and why it is needed so badly. By mastering the core of calculus-as well as seeing its meaning and significance-students will not only better understand math and science in general, but contemporary culture and their place in it.

Download or read book Calculus III written by Tunc Geveci and published by Cognella. This book was released on 2011-01-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculus III is the third and final volume of the three-volume calculus sequence by Tunc Geveci. The series is designed for the usual three-semester calculus sequence that the majority of science and engineering majors in the United States are required to take. The distinguishing features of the book are the focus on the concepts, essential functions and formulas of calculus and the effective use of graphics as an integral part of the exposition. Formulas that are not significant and exercises that involve artificial algebraic difficulties are avoided. The three-volume calculus sequence is organized as follows: Calculus I covers the usual topics of the first semester: limits, continuity, the derivative, the integral and special functions such as exponential functions, logarithms and inverse trigonometric functions. Calculus II covers techniques and applications of integration, improper integrals, infinite series, linear and separable first-order differential equations, parametrized curves and polar coordinates. Calculus III covers vectors, the differential calculus of functions of several variables, multiple integrals, line integrals, surface integrals, Green's Theorem, Stokes' Theorem and Gauss' Theorem.

Book Mathematics for Machine Learning

Download or read book Mathematics for Machine Learning written by Marc Peter Deisenroth and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental mathematical tools needed to understand machine learning include linear algebra, analytic geometry, matrix decompositions, vector calculus, optimization, probability and statistics. These topics are traditionally taught in disparate courses, making it hard for data science or computer science students, or professionals, to efficiently learn the mathematics. This self-contained textbook bridges the gap between mathematical and machine learning texts, introducing the mathematical concepts with a minimum of prerequisites. It uses these concepts to derive four central machine learning methods: linear regression, principal component analysis, Gaussian mixture models and support vector machines. For students and others with a mathematical background, these derivations provide a starting point to machine learning texts. For those learning the mathematics for the first time, the methods help build intuition and practical experience with applying mathematical concepts. Every chapter includes worked examples and exercises to test understanding. Programming tutorials are offered on the book's web site.
