Book Inflation Expectations

Download or read book Inflation Expectations written by Peter J. N. Sinclair and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inflation is regarded by the many as a menace that damages business and can only make life worse for households. Keeping it low depends critically on ensuring that firms and workers expect it to be low. So expectations of inflation are a key influence on national economic welfare. This collection pulls together a galaxy of world experts (including Roy Batchelor, Richard Curtin and Staffan Linden) on inflation expectations to debate different aspects of the issues involved. The main focus of the volume is on likely inflation developments. A number of factors have led practitioners and academic observers of monetary policy to place increasing emphasis recently on inflation expectations. One is the spread of inflation targeting, invented in New Zealand over 15 years ago, but now encompassing many important economies including Brazil, Canada, Israel and Great Britain. Even more significantly, the European Central Bank, the Bank of Japan and the United States Federal Bank are the leading members of another group of monetary institutions all considering or implementing moves in the same direction. A second is the large reduction in actual inflation that has been observed in most countries over the past decade or so. These considerations underscore the critical – and largely underrecognized - importance of inflation expectations. They emphasize the importance of the issues, and the great need for a volume that offers a clear, systematic treatment of them. This book, under the steely editorship of Peter Sinclair, should prove very important for policy makers and monetary economists alike.

Download or read book European Fair Trading Law written by Professor Geraint Howells and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive is the most important directive in the field of trade practices to have emerged from the EC but it builds upon European activity which has sought to regulate trade practices on both a sectoral and horizontal level. It is an umbrella provision, which uses general clauses to protect consumers. How effective this approach is and how it relates the existing acquis are fundamental issues for debate. This work provides a critical appraisal of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive linking discussion of it to general debates about how fair trading should be regulated. It explains how the Directive fits into the existing acquis. It also examines national traditions where these are necessary to explain the European approach, as in the case of general clauses. The book will be a valuable tool for any student of consumer law seeking to understand the thinking behind the directive and how it will affect national laws. It will also influence policy makers by suggesting how the directive should be interpreted and what policy lies behind its formulation. Businesses and their advisers will use the book as a means of understanding the new regulatory climate post-the directive.

Book excerpt: This second edition has been designed to monitor the progress in develop ment over the past few years and to build on the information given in the first edition. It has been extensively revised and updated. My thanks go to all who have contributed to this work. D.F.W. May 1996 Preface to the first edition This book is the result of a group of development scientists feeling that there was an urgent need for a reference work that would assist chemists in understanding the science involved in the development of new products. The approach is to inform in a way that allows and encourages the reader to develop his or her own creativity in working with marketing colleagues on the introduction of new products. Organised on a product category basis, emphasis is placed on formulation, selection of raw materials, and the technology of producing the products discussed. Performance considerations, safety, product liability and all aspects of quality are covered. Regulations governing the production and sale of cosmetic products internationally are described, and sources for updated information provided. Throughout the book, reference is made to consumer pressure and environmental issues-concerns which the development scientist and his or her marketing counterpart ignore at their own, and their employer's peril. In recent years, many cosmetic fragrances and toiletry products have been converted from aerosols to mechanically press uri sed products or sprays, and these are described along with foam products such as hair conditioning mousses.

Book Product packaging as tool to demand a price premium Does packaging enhance consumers value perception to justify a price premium

Download or read book Product packaging as tool to demand a price premium Does packaging enhance consumers value perception to justify a price premium written by Christoph Breetz and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study addresses the question of the impact of packaging to demand a price premium leveraging the example of retailer brand premium products in the food segment in Germany. Product tiering is a pricing structure that is commonly used by producers, in which consumers are segmented by willingness to pay for specific (added) product benefits. This is a way of maximizing utility for both consumers and producers, and is commonly already leveraged by producers of branded products, but lately also by retailer brands, especially to enable growth outside the value tier. This research uses a survey across grocery purchase decision makers in Germany to identify the relationship of packaging and willingness to pay across a sample of retailer brand Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 products as well as a branded product in four different grocery categories. The intent is to answer whether i) packaging currently justifies the premium price of retailer brand tier 1 products compared to other product tiers, ii) packaging justifies the tier 1 retailer brand price premium, and iii) demographics influence the willingness to pay a premium price.
