Book Consumer behaviour and a European perspective

Download or read book Consumer behaviour and a European perspective written by Oliver Florian Friede and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2002-12-02 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2002 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,3 (A), University of Tampere (School of Business Administration), course: Buying Behaviour, language: English, abstract: One "official" definition of consumer behavior is "The study of individuals, groups, or organizations and the processes they use to select, secure, use, and dispose of pro-ducts, services, experiences, or ideas to satisfy needs and the impacts that these pro-cesses have on the consumer and society." Although it is not necessary to memorize this definition, it brings up some useful points: Behavior occurs either for the individual, or in the context of a group (e.g., friends in-fluence what kinds of clothes a person wears) or an organization (people on the job make decisions as to which products the firm should use). Consumer behavior within European Community involves the use and disposal of pro-ducts as well as the study of how they are purchased. Product use is often of great interest to the marketer, because this may influence how a product is best positioned or how we can encourage increased consumption. Since many environmental prob-lems result from product disposal (e.g., motor oil being sent into sewage systems to save the recycling fee, or garbage piling up at landfills) this is also an area of interest. Nowadays, consumer behavior in EU involves services and ideas as well as tangible products. The impact of consumer behavior on society is also of relevance. For example, ag-gressive marketing of high fat foods, or aggressive marketing of easy credit, may have serious repercussions for the national health and economy. With the unifying of EU the impact is even bigger.

Book Rethinking Consumer Behaviour for the Well being of All

Download or read book Rethinking Consumer Behaviour for the Well being of All written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide invites the reader to think about consumption as one factor in the difficult task of building cohesive, sustainable societies based on the principle or universal well-being. The Council or Europe hopes that this reassessment will prompt people to question their choices as consumers: taking account of human rights, decent working conditions, the sustainable use of resources and our legacy to future generations. Surely consumption should be a responsible, socially committed act. An eclectic mix or academic articles, examples and illustrations makes this guide an unusual, informative work which can be readily used as the basis for discussions on this pressing social issue. This book, inspired by a contribution from the European Inter-Network of Ethical and Solidarity-Based Initiatives (IRIS), is intended as a "prototype": readers are free to adapt its contents to their own circumstances, to add relevant examples and to bring the ideas presented to life

The authors explore the full consumption cycle, not only the first stages of orientation and procurement, but also the usage and disposal of products. Consumer Behaviour is ideal for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It will also benefit non-European students who need to gain a wider understanding of consumer behaviour. Marketers, market researchers, public relations officers and government officials dealing with consumer policy will also find it extremely useful.

Book Consumer Behavior over the Life Course

Download or read book Consumer Behavior over the Life Course written by George P. Moschis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-31 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines consumer behavior using the “life course” paradigm, a multidisciplinary framework for studying people's lives, structural contexts, and social change. It contributes to marketing research by providing new insights into the study of consumer behavior and illustrating how to apply the life course paradigm’s concepts and theoretical perspectives to study consumer topics in an innovative way. Although a growing number of marketing researchers, either implicitly or explicitly, subscribe to life course perspectives for studying a variety of consumer behaviors, their efforts have been limited due to a lack of theories and methods that would help them study consumers over the lifecycle. When studying consumers over their lifespan, researchers examine differences in the consumer behaviors of various age groups (e.g., children, baby boomers, elderly, etc.) or family life stages (e.g., bachelors, full nesters, empty nesters, etc.), inferring that consumer behavior changes over time or linking consumption behaviors to previous experiences and future expectations. Such efforts, however, have yet to benefit from an interdisciplinary research approach. This book fills this gap in consumer research by informing readers about the differences between some of the most commonly used models for studying consumers over their lifespan and the life course paradigm, and providing implications for research, public policy, and marketing practice. Presenting applications of the life course approach in such research topics as decision making, maladaptive behaviors (e.g., compulsive buying, binge eating), consumer well-being, and cognitive decline, this book is beneficial for students, scholars, professors, practitioners, and policy makers in consumer behavior, consumer research, consumer psychology, and marketing research.
