Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Annual Refugee Consultation: Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Immigration of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, One Hundred Fourth Congress, First Session on Examining the President's Fiscal Year 1996 Budget Request for Refugee Admissions; August 1, 1995 That is the language of the Refugee Act of 1980. It is a tribute to my colleague on my left, always on the left, that we have that act. I was rather fresh and new here when that act was considered by the Judiciary Committee, and it is a singular piece of legisla tion, a tribute to Senator Kennedy, and certainly has been a very workable piece of legislation for the most part. This hearing, together with a very fine personal meeting that Senator Kennedy and I had last week with Secretary Warren Christopher, is a very important part of the consultation process. I think both of us would agree that that was well worthwhile in an informal setting to have that consultation process, too.
