Book Construction Terms Simply Defined

Download or read book Construction Terms Simply Defined written by Dominique Nelson and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to succeed in construction or design, you must understand the basic terminology. While most texts are written for architects or engineers, this dictionary was written by a contractor with more than 25 years' experience in the trades, and his wife, a former teacher. Each definition has been written in language that is easy to understand - because we believe that construction should be simple. It should be about the love of the craft, not unraveling the complexities of contracting. With more than 500 definitions and over 50 color photographs taken from their own job sites over the years, Greg and Dominique have created a dictionary that anyone can use - on the job site, in an office, and even in a classroom. It is for general contractors, remodelers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, HVAC contractors, masons, roofers, drywallers, architects, engineers, laborers, designers, teacher and students.

The three-dimensional building sections are typically fabricated and assembled in an enclosed factory environment and then delivered to site, ready for installation. Modular construction is aimed at minimising construction time by standardising design components, providing consistent quality and allowing site preparation and building activities to commence concurrently with the construction of the factory-made modules. Snagging The process of formally inspecting the construction works to identify any incomplete works or defects in completed works. A snagging list (or ‘punch list’) is a schedule of defects resulting from this inspection. These items typically need to be rectified prior to the issuing of a completion certificate or handing-over of the works although in some cases a completion certificate will be issued with a snagging list attached.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Construction Grammar

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Construction Grammar written by Thomas Hoffmann and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-02-22 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen a rise in popularity in construction-based approaches to grammar. The various approaches within the rubric 'construction grammar' all see language as a network of constructions-pairings of form and meaning. Construction Grammar, as a kind of cognitive linguistics, differs significantly from mainstream generative grammar as espoused by Chomsky and his followers. Advocates of Construction Grammar see it as a psychologically plausible theory of human language. As such, it is capable of providing a principled account of language acquisition, language variation and language change. Research in Construction Grammar also includes multidisciplinary cognitive studies in psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and computational linguistics. The Oxford Handbook of Construction Grammar is the first authoritative reference work solely dedicated to Construction Grammar. Divided into five sections, the book will be an invaluable resource that students and scholars alike can turn to for a comprehensive account of current work on Construction Grammar, its theoretical foundations, and its applications to and relationship with other kinds of linguistic enquiry.

Written for anyone working in the construction industry working on a project under the ECC, it will be of interest to the complete construction supply chain including employers, construction professions, contractors and sub-contractors. It will also be of interest to consultants and lawyers advising any of these parties, either in the preparation of contract documentation or the resolution of problem situations which may arise.
