Book Computational Optimal Control

Download or read book Computational Optimal Control written by Roland Bulirsch and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resources should be used sparingly both from a point of view of economy and eco logy. Thus in controlling industrial, economical and social processes, optimization is the tool of choice. In this area of applied numerical analysis, the INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AUTOMATIC CONTROL (IFAC) acts as a link between research groups in universities, national research laboratories and industry. For this pur pose, the technical committee Mathematics of Control of IFAC organizes biennial conferences with the objective of bringing together experts to exchange ideas, ex periences and future developments in control applications of optimization. There should be a genuine feedback loop between mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers and software developers. This loop should include the design, application and implementation of algorithms. The contributions of industrial practitioners are especially important. These proceedings contain selected papers from a workshop on CONTROL Ap PLICATIONS OF OPTIMIZATION, which took place at the Fachhochschule Miinchen in September 1992. The workshop was the ninth in a series of very successful bien nial meetings, starting with the Joint Automatic Control Conference in Denver in 1978 and followed by conferences in London, Oberpfaffenhofen, San Francisco, Ca pri, Tbilisi and Paris. The workshop was attended by ninety researchers from four continents. This volume represents the state of the art in the field, with emphasis on progress made since the publication of the proceedings of the Capri meeting, edited by G. di Pillo under the title 'Control Applications of Optimization and Nonlinear Programming'.

Book An Optimal Controller for Multivariable Systems Subject to Disturbance Inputs

Download or read book An Optimal Controller for Multivariable Systems Subject to Disturbance Inputs written by Cecil L. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most industrial processes have two features in common: (1) they are multivariate in nature and (2) they are subject to unmeasured disturbances for which control systems must be installed. The conventional design of multivariable systems has been considered by Bollinger and Lamb, Dahlin et. al and Shinskey. Douglas considered the constrained optimal control of multivariable systems, deriving the optimal switching curves for a representative system. This objective of this work is to present a design technique for linear, continuous controllers for multivariable process systems. The method will use the concepts for the optimal control of linear systems as presented by Athans and Falb. The conventional disturbance control problem is reformulated in a manner that allows optimal control theory to be used directly. (Author).

Book New Trends in Dynamic Games and Applications

Download or read book New Trends in Dynamic Games and Applications written by Jan G. Olsder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of dynamic games is very rich in nature and very much alive! If the reader does not already agree with this statement, I hope he/she will surely do so after having consulted the contents of the current volume. The activities which fall under the heading of 'dynamic games' cannot easily be put into one scientific discipline. On the theoretical side one deals with differential games, difference games (the underlying models are described by differential, respec tively difference equations) and games based on Markov chains, with determin istic and stochastic games, zero-sum and nonzero-sum games, two-player and many-player games - all under various forms of equilibria. On the practical side, one sees applications to economics (stimulated by the recent Nobel prize for economics which went to three prominent scientists in game theory), biology, management science, and engineering. The contents of this volume are primarily based on selected presentations made at the Sixth International Symposium on Dynamic Games and Applica tions, held in St Jovite, Quebec, Canada, 13-15 July 1994. Every paper that appears in this volume has passed through a stringent reviewing process, as is the case with publications for archival technical journals. This conference, as well as its predecessor which was held in Grimentz, 1992, took place under the auspices of the International Society of Dynamic Games (ISDG), established in 1990. One of the activities of the ISDG is the publication of these Annals. The contributions in this volume have been grouped around five themes.

Book Advances in Dynamic Games and Applications

Download or read book Advances in Dynamic Games and Applications written by Tamer Başar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have witnessed a surge of activity in the field of dynamic both theory and applications. Theoretical as well as practical games, in problems in zero-sum and nonzero-sum games, continuous time differential and discrete time multistage games, and deterministic and stochastic games games are currently being investigated by researchers in diverse disciplines, such as engineering, mathematics, biology, economics, management science, and political science. This surge of interest has led to the formation of the International Society of Dynamic Games (ISDG) in 1990, whose primary goal is to foster the development of advanced research and applications in the field of game theory. One important activity of the Society is to organize biannually an international symposium which aims at bringing together all those who contribute to the development of this active field of applied science. In 1992 the symposium was organized in Grimentz, Switzerland, under the supervision of an international scientific committee and with the help of a local organizing committee based at University of Geneva. This book, which is the first volume in the new Series, Annals of the International Society of Dynamic Games (see the Preface to the Series), is based on presentations made at this symposium. It is however more than a book of proceedings for a conference. Every paper published in this volume has passed through a very selective refereeing process, as in an archival technical journal.

Book Applied Mathematics in Aerospace Science and Engineering

Download or read book Applied Mathematics in Aerospace Science and Engineering written by Angelo Miele and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings ofthe meeting on "Applied Mathematics in the Aerospace Field," held in Erice, Sicily, Italy from September 3 to September 10, 1991. The occasion of the meeting was the 12th Course of the School of Mathematics "Guido Stampacchia," directed by Professor Franco Giannessi of the University of Pisa. The school is affiliated with the International Center for Scientific Culture "Ettore Majorana," which is directed by Professor Antonino Zichichi of the University of Bologna. The objective of the course was to give a perspective on the state-of the-art and research trends concerning the application of mathematics to aerospace science and engineering. The course was structured with invited lectures and seminars concerning fundamental aspects of differential equa tions, mathematical programming, optimal control, numerical methods, per turbation methods, and variational methods occurring in flight mechanics, astrodynamics, guidance, control, aircraft design, fluid mechanics, rarefied gas dynamics, and solid mechanics. The book includes 20 chapters by 23 contributors from the United States, Germany, and Italy and is intended to be an important reference work on the application of mathematics to the aerospace field. It reflects the belief of the course directors that strong interaction between mathematics and engineering is beneficial, indeed essential, to progresses in both areas.

Book Optimal Control of Constrained Piecewise Affine Systems

Download or read book Optimal Control of Constrained Piecewise Affine Systems written by Frank Christophersen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-09-11 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important and challenging problems in control is the derivation of systematic tools for the computation of controllers for constrained nonlinear systems that can guarantee closed-loop stability, feasibility, and optimality with respect to some performance index. This book focuses on the efficient and systematic computation of closed-form optimal controllers for the powerful class of fast-sampled constrained piecewise affine systems. These systems may exhibit rather complex behavior and are equivalent to many other hybrid system formalisms (combining continuous-valued dynamics with logic rules) reported in the literature. Furthermore, piecewise affine systems are a useful modeling tool that can capture general nonlinearities (e.g. by local approximation), constraints, saturations, switches, and other hybrid modeling phenomena. The first part of the book presents an introduction to the mathematical and control theoretical background material needed for the full understanding of the book. The second part provides an in depth look at the computational and control theoretic properties of the controllers and part three presents different analysis and post-processing techniques.

Book Topics in Control 2 Constrained Feedback Control of Linear Dynamic Stochastic Systems

Download or read book Topics in Control 2 Constrained Feedback Control of Linear Dynamic Stochastic Systems written by John F. MacGregor and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of feedback controllers which minimize some quadratic function of the outputs and inputs (usually minimum mean square error at the output subject to constraints on the variances of the inputs) is treated from two points of view: Using discrete transfer function and ARIMA models to characterize the system and designing the optimal controllers by solving a discrete version of the Wiener-Hopf equation; Using state variable models to characterize the system and solving the optimal control problem by employing dynamic programming and Kalman filtering. The two methods are shown to be equivalent and which is to be used is solely a matter of convenience. The relative merits of each is discussed and examples are given. Using the first approach a general form for constrained controllers is worked out. For the second approach the dynamic programming solution to the optimal control problem is given and a simplified solution is developed for the univariate unconstrained control case. Expressions for the covaraince matrices of the output and input under feedback control are derived. Different ways of dealing with time delays in the process dynamics are discussed. (Author Modified Abstract).
