Book Design and Construction of Interlocking Concrete Block Pavements

Download or read book Design and Construction of Interlocking Concrete Block Pavements written by B. Shackel and published by Spon Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete block pavement has recently emerged as a major new form of construction both for landscaping where aesthetics are of prime concern and for pavements carrying traffic ranging from cars and trucks to the heaviest of industrial loads. Since the 1960s extensive research into this form of paving has been conducted worldwide. For the first time this information is brought together in a form that benefits the practising civil or municipal engineer, architect or landscaper.

Book Concrete Paving Blocks

Download or read book Concrete Paving Blocks written by Michael K. Abate and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a widespread perception in the U.S. that a concrete block pavement (CBP) is an untried pavement alternative. However, each year more of these pavements are being installed. The available literature concerning this type of pavement is limited in the U.S. as most research papers are published elsewhere. This report examines CBP's from several perspectives in order to provide an overview of this alternative pavement technology. First, the CBP system is described. The importance of using the proper bedding sand gradations is stressed and the phenomenon of lock-up, or interlock, is explained. The various design methods for CBP's are also presented. Here, the concept of equivalency factors is discussed. Next, the structural performance of several CBP projects varying from 1 to 10 years are reviewed. Finally, the range of, CBP costs in the Puget Sound area are provided, and a review of those prices paid by WSDOT for asphaltic concrete and Portland cement concrete is made to determine cost competitiveness with a CBP. Concrete paving blocks, Pavement performance, Pavement design, Pavement costs.

Book Landscape Construction

Download or read book Landscape Construction written by C.A. Fortlage and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landscape Construction Volume 1 deals with elements of landscape construction which are required to provide enclosure, privacy, demarcation of land, shelter and security. The elements discussed include free-standing brick and stone walls, fences, gates and railings. Fittings and finishes are also covered. Each section describes the materials, construction and constraints relevant to the subject and a large number of detailed figures and photographs supplement the text and help to illustrate the more important aspects. There is also a section on preservation treatment and painting. The current British Standard references are included.

Book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-09-12 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.
