Book Construction Manpower Management System

Download or read book Construction Manpower Management System written by Charles S. Hughes and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report traces the development of and explains the operation of a Construction Manpower Management System (CMMS) developed for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Initial direction for this project was received from the Construction Engineering Manpower Management System Pooled Fund Study and a study performed for VDOT by Price Waterhouse and Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. Technical input was received from a project steering committee consisting of VDOT engineers, inspectors, and administrators. This system has been tailored to the specific needs of VDOT and provides projections of construction inspection staffing needs for both the short-term (the next 18 to 24 months) and the long-term (the next 6 years). The short-term projections are very accurate and appear quite adequate for use as a manpower staffing tool and for VDOT presentations to the General Assembly. As anticipated, the long-term projections, which are based on less certain project schedules in years 4 to 6, are not as accurate as those in the short-term. Thus, little use of long-term estimates are anticipated for planning purposes at this time.

Book Construction Safety Management Systems

Download or read book Construction Safety Management Systems written by Steve Rowlinson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-04-29 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction industry has a distressingly poor safety record, whether measured in absolute terms or alongside other industries. The level of construction safety in a country is influenced by factors such as variations in the labour forces, shifting economies, insurance rates, legal ramifications and the stage of technological development. Yet the problem is a world-wide one, and many of the ways of tackling it can be applied across countries. Effective tools include designing, preplanning, training, management commitment and the development of a safety culture. The introduction and operation of effective safety management systems represents a viable way forwards, but these systems are all too rarely implemented. How can this be done? Should we go back to prescriptive legislation? This book considers these questions by drawing together leading-edge research papers from the proceedings of an international conference conducted by a commission (W099) on Safety and Health on Construction Sites of CIB, the international council of building research organisations.

Book Organization Management in Construction

Download or read book Organization Management in Construction written by Paul S. Chinowsky and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-01-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s construction environment is changing at an unprecedented pace and executives are facing a diverse set of issues – globalization, economics, workforce demographics, and technology. Moreover the traditional issues of competition and delivery are being challenged by new laws and new industry entrants; and the tasks of project and organization management are being overhauled. This all demands greater leadership from senior management. Construction executives typically reach senior level after many years mastering the art of project management, which has given them very little time or opportunity to learn the concepts and principles of organization leadership – unlike their counterparts in other industries who have been steeped in this. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the key issues that organization leaders must understand and address. It provides concise summaries by leading international authorities of the ten key strategic management issues, shows how they have emerged, and outlines their potential impact on the construction organization.
