Book Design and Construction Guidelines for Dry Stack Concrete Masonry

Download or read book Design and Construction Guidelines for Dry Stack Concrete Masonry written by The Masonry Society and published by . This book was released on 2021-12 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design and Construction Guidelines for Dry-Stack Concrete Masonry was developed by The Masonry Society's Design Practices Committee as a non-mandatory aid for designers, building officials, contractors, educators, and others interested in dry-stack masonry construction.Dry-stack masonry construction, which consists of individual masonry units placed without the use of mortar in the head and bed joints, is one of the earliest forms of construction. Despite its historical use, there is little in the way of contemporary design and construction guidance in the United States on the use of dry-stack masonry systems for structural applications. Because the majority of dry-stack research has been limited to reinforced or prestressed concrete masonry construction, the scope of this guide is limited to reinforced or prestressed, dry-stack construction of concrete masonry units. There are dry-stack masonry systems specifically intended for veneer applications. Because veneer systems do not function as part of the structural system, they are not included in this guide. In addition, this guide does not address the design or construction of unreinforced dry-stack masonry systems or segmental retaining wall systems.

Book ASTM Masonry Standards for the Building Industry

Download or read book ASTM Masonry Standards for the Building Industry written by American Society for Testing and Materials and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This compilation is sponsored by ASTM International's Committee C12 on Mortars and Grouts for Unit Masonry, and Committee C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units. It contains specifications for products such as mason's lime, concrete brick, building brick and hollow brick (clay or shale), paving brick, facing brick, glazed brick, hollow and solid load-bearing concrete masonry units, masonry cement, facing tile, Portland cement, mortar, grout, concrete paving units, segmental retaining wall units, and prefabricated masonry panels. Test methods for sampling and testing brick, structural clay tile, concrete masonry units, mortar, and grout are also included, as well as methods for measuring drying shrinkage of concrete block, bond strength of mortar to unit masonry, splitting tensile strength of masonry units, masonry flexural bond strength, and water penetration and leakage. Practices and guides address test specimen preparation, proper use of test methods and specifications, and reduction of efflorescence. Also included are specifications for ancillary materials used in masonry construction"--

Book Direct Design Handbook 2017

Download or read book Direct Design Handbook 2017 written by Masonry Society (U.S.) and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TMS 403-17 Direct Design Handbook for Masonry Structures (hereinafter referred to as the Handbook) was developed by The Masonry Society's Design Practices Committee. This Handbook provides a direct procedure for the structural design of reinforced concrete masonry and clay masonry structures. The procedure is based on the strength design provisions of TMS 402-13/ACI 530-13/ASCE 5-13 Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures and ASCE 7-10 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. The document is applicable to both residential and commercial structures. This Handbook was developed as a consensus standard and written in mandatory language so that it may form a part of a legally adopted building code as an alternative to standards that address a much broader range of masonry construction. This Handbook was written so that architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, researchers, educators, suppliers, manufacturers and others may use this Handbook in their practice for various purposes. Among the topics covered are reference standards, definitions and notations, site limitations, architectural limitations, loading limitations, material and construction requirements, direct design procedure, specifications, and details. The Commentary to this Handbook presents background analysis, details and committee considerations used to develop this Handbook.
