Book Construction Deconstruction Reconstruction

Download or read book Construction Deconstruction Reconstruction written by Aaron Krach and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Reproduction of a dreamed reconstruction. Let me explain: In February 2015, ISIS destroyed the Mosul Museum. They plundered building, tore art off the walls, and decapitated sculptures. They also photographed and videotaped the actions to show the world. Destruction was not enough; the images needed to be disseminated for ISIS's power to be understood. This singular atrocity came on the heels of much more destruction of antiquities in Iraq dating back to the looting of the Iraq Museum in 2003. The asymmetrical fighting of destroyed art would metastasize into 2016 when ISIS destroyed many parts of Palmyra in Syria. I dream of being able to reconstruct these objects. Their loss is unfathomable. I also understand time and change and that everything--every thing--is ephemeral. So perhaps we shouldn't cry but remember. Thus the introduction of images of President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline. The pages from an obsolete VHS catalog. Some things become useless, while other items or people we wish we could have longer. It's a cycle, perhaps: construct, deconstruct, and reconstruct."--Description provided by Aaron Krach, January 9, 2020.

Download or read book The Wisdom Pattern written by Richard Rohr and published by Franciscan Media. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Order, by itself, normally wants to eliminate any disorder and diversity creating a narrow and cognitive rigidity in both people and systems. Disorder, by itself, closes us off from any primal union, meaning, and eventually even sanity in people and systems. Reorder, or transformation of people and systems, happens when both are seen to work together” – from the preface. Through time, a universal pattern can be found in all societies, spiritualities, and philosophies. We see it in the changing seasons, the stories of Scripture in the Bible, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the rise and fall of civilizations, and even personally in our lives. In this updated version of one of his earliest books, Father Richard Rohr clearly illuminates how understanding and embracing this pattern can give us hope in difficult times and the courage to push through disorganization and even great chaos to find a new way of being in the world. “We are indeed 'saved' by knowing and surrendering to this universal pattern of reality. Knowing the full pattern allows us to let go of our first order, trust the disorder, and, sometimes even hardest of all—to trust the new reorder. Three big leaps of faith for all of us, and each of a different character.” —from the introduction.

Book Eco Deconstruction

  • Author : Matthias Fritsch

Download or read book Eco Deconstruction written by Matthias Fritsch and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2018-03-27 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eco-Deconstruction marks a new approach to the degradation of the natural environment, including habitat loss, species extinction, and climate change. While the work of French philosopher Jacques Derrida (1930–2004), with its relentless interrogation of the anthropocentric metaphysics of presence, has already proven highly influential in posthumanism and animal studies, the present volume, drawing on published and unpublished work by Derrida and others, builds on these insights to address the most pressing environmental issues of our time. The volume brings together fifteen prominent scholars, from a wide variety of related fields, including eco-phenomenology, eco-hermeneutics, new materialism, posthumanism, animal studies, vegetal philosophy, science and technology studies, environmental humanities, eco-criticism, earth art and aesthetics, and analytic environmental ethics. Overall, eco-deconstruction offers an account of differential relationality explored in a non-totalizable ecological context that addresses our times in both an ontological and a normative register. The book is divided into four sections. “Diagnosing the Present” suggests that our times are marked by a facile, flattened-out understanding of time and thus in need of deconstructive dispositions. “Ecologies” mobilizes the spectral ontology of deconstruction to argue for an originary environmentality, the constitutive ecological embeddedness of mortal life. “Nuclear and Other Biodegradabilities,” examines remains, including such by-products and disintegrations of human culture as nuclear waste, environmental destruction, and species extinctions. “Environmental Ethics” seeks to uncover a demand for justice, including human responsibility for suffering beings, that emerges precisely as a response to original differentiation and the mortality and unmasterable alterity it installs in living beings. As such, the book will resonate with readers not only of philosophy, but across the humanities and the social and natural sciences.

Download or read book Beyond Deconstruction written by Alberto Martinengo and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-08-31 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The controversy over Jacques Derrida's legacy is one of the most effective engines driving the contemporary debate, far beyond the bounds of philosophy. By now, the variety of contesting positions is so wide that it calls for a critical assessment to achieve a unified theoretical scheme. The dyad of deconstruction and reconstruction, to which the title of the volume refers, aims at composing a kind of map of this debate. The three sections of the book include essays that investigate specific aspects of Derrida's reception, from the view of 1. philosophy, 2. literary studies and 3. politics and law. These contributions study the implications of deconstruction beyond its original scope and intervene by taking stock of its most relevant aporias.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “In this wonderfully urbane fantasy” the Caldecott Medal-winning author and illustrator imagines the process of dismantling the Empire State Building (Publishers Weekly). The acclaimed author of City and Pyramid now applies his inquisitive mind and stunningly detailed artwork to one of New York’s most iconic buildings. When the Empire State Building is purchased by an eccentric prince who wants to move it to the Arabian Desert, the intricate process of unbuilding begins. Along the way, Macaulay takes young readers on a tour of the skyscraper’s history and architecture and explains the many feats of engineering that went into its construction. His straightforward, informative text is illustrated with “perhaps the finest series of visually expansive, black-and-white perspective drawings, incisive renderings of the skyscraper and its celebrated ‘views’” (The Washington Post).
