Book excerpt: Using a data sample of 122 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory at SLAC, we measure the time-dependent-asymmetry parameters of the longitudinally polarized component in the B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -} decay as C{sub L} = -0.23 {+-} 0.24(stat) {+-} 0.14(syst) and S{sub L} = -0.19 {+-} 0.33(stat) {+-} 0.11(syst). The B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}{rho}{sup 0} decay mode is also searched for in a data sample of about 227 million B{bar B} pairs. No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit of 1.1 x 10{sup -6} (90% C.L.) on the branching fraction is set. The penguin contribution to the CKM angle {alpha} uncertainty is measured to be 11{sup o}. All results are preliminary.

Book excerpt: Using a data sample of 89 million [Upsilon](4S) [yields] B[bar B] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC, the authors measure the B[sup 0]([bar B][sup 0]) [yields] [rho][sup +][rho][sup -] branching fraction as (30 [+-] 4(stat) [+-] 5(syst)) x 10[sup -6] and a longitudinal polarization fraction of f[sub L] = 0.99 [+-] 0.03(stat)[sub -0.03][sup +0.04](syst). They measure the time-dependent-asymmetry parameters of the longitudinally polarized component of this decay as C[sub L] = -0.17 [+-] 0.27(stat) [+-] 0.14(syst) and S[sub L] = -0.42(stat) [+-] 0.14(syst). They present constraints on the CKM angle [alpha].

Book excerpt: We present results from an analysis of B° ({bar B}°) →??− using 232 million?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We measure the longitudinal polarization fraction f{sub L} = 0.978 ± 0.014(stat){sub -0.029}{sup +0.021}(syst) and the CP-violating parameters S{sub L} = -0.33 ± 0.24(stat){sub -0.14}{sup +0.08}(syst) and C{sub L} = -0.03 ± 0.18(stat) ± 0.09(syst). Using an isospin analysis of B →?? decays we determine the unitarity triangle?. The solution compatible with the Standard Model is? = (100 ± 13){sup o}.

Book excerpt: The authors search for the decays B° 2![rho]°[rho]°, B° 2![rho]° f0(980), and B° 2!f0(980) f0(980) in a sample of about 384 million [Upsilon](4S) 2!B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ee− collider at SLAC. They find evidence for B° 2![rho]°[rho]° with 3.5[sigma] significance and measure the branching fraction [Beta] = (1.07 ± 0.33 ± 0.19) x 10−6 and longitudinal polarization fraction f{sub L} = 0.87 ± 0.13 ± 0.04, where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second is systematic. The uncertainty on the CKM unitarity angle [alpha] due to penguin contributions in B 2![rho][rho] decays is 18{sup o} at the 1[sigma] level. They also set upper limits on the B° 2![rho]° f0(980) and B° 2!f0(980)f0(980) decay rates.

They measure the B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -} branching fraction, longitudinal polarization fraction f{sub L}, and the CP-violating parameters S{sub long} and C{sub long}: {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -}) = (23.5 {+-} 2.2(stat) {+-} 4.1(syst)) x 10{sup -6}, f{sub L} = 0.977 {+-} 0.024(stat){sub -0.013}{sup +0.015}(syst), S{sub long} = -0.19 {+-} 0.21(stat){sub -0.07}{sup +0.05}(syst), C{sub long} = -0.07 {+-} 0.15(stat) {+-} 0.06(syst). Using an isospin analysis of B {yields} {rho}{rho} decays they determine the angle {alpha} of the unitarity triangle. One of the two solutions, {alpha} [74,117]{sup o} at 68% CL, is compatible with the standard model. All results presented here are preliminary.

The measurements of the B° →?+?− branching fraction, longitudinal polarization fraction f{sub L}, and the CP-violating parameters S{sub long} and C{sub long} are:?(B° →?+?−) = (25.5 ± 2.1(stat){sub -3.9}{sup +3.6}(syst)) x 10−6, f{sub L} = 0.992 ± 0.024(stat){sub -0.013}{sup +0.026}(syst), S{sub long} = -0.17 ± 0.20(stat){sub -0.06}{sup +0.05}(syst), C{sub long} = 0.01 ± 0.15(stat) ± 0.06(syst). The authors determine the unitarity triangle angle?, using an isospin analysis of B →?? decays. One of the two solutions,? = [73.1, 117.0]{sup o} at 68% CL is compatible with standard model-based fits of existing data. Constraints on the unitarity triangle are also evaluated using an SU(3) symmetry based approach.

Book excerpt: The primary objective of the BABAR Experiment is to test the Standard Model explanation of CP violation in weak decays by over-constraining the CKM Unitarity Triangle. This includes the measurement of all three angles of the triangle. Although precise measurements of the angle [beta] have been obtained using B decays to charmonium states, the remaining angles, [alpha] and [gamma], pose greater experimental challenges. In this paper, the latest measurements of modes which will constrain [alpha] and [gamma] will be presented, including B[sup 0] --> [rho][sup +][rho][sup -] for [alpha] and a measurement of sin(2[beta] + [gamma]) from the B[sup 0] --> D(*)[sup [+-]][pi][sup [-+]] system.

Book excerpt: We report recent measurements of the CKM angle [alpha] using data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ee− collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. In addition to improved constraints on [alpha] from the decays B{sup {+-}} 2![rho]{sup {+-}}[rho]°, we also present preliminary results of neutral and charged B meson decays to K1(1270)[pi] and K1(1400)[pi] and its impact on the estimate for the CKM angle [alpha] based on time-dependent analysis of CP-violating asymmetries in B° 2!a1(1260){sup {+-}} [pi]{sup {-+}}. Moreover we report the first observation of the decay B 2!a1(1260){sup {+-}}a1(1260){sup {-+}}; this mode can be used, in principle, to provide an independent measurement of [alpha].
