Download or read book Edward S Corwin s Constitution and What It Means Today written by Edward S. Corwin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2008-09-02 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over seventy-five years Edward S. Corwin's text has been a basic reference in the study of U.S. Constitutional Law. The 14th edition, the first new edition since 1973, brings the volume up to date through 1977. In this classic work, historian Edward Corwin presented the text of the U.S. Constitution along with his own commentary on its articles, sections, clauses, and amendments. Corwin was a renowned authority on constitutional law and jurisprudence, and was hired at Princeton University by Woodrow Wilson in 1905. Far from being an impersonal textbook, Corwin's edition was full of opinion. Not afraid to express his own strong views of the development of American law, Corwin offered piquant descriptions of the debates about the meaning of clauses, placing recent decisions of the court "in the familiar setting of his own views." The favor of his style is evident in his comments on judicial review ("American democracy's way of covering its bet") and the cabinet ("an administrative anachronism" that should be replaced by a legislative council "whose daily salt does not come from the Presidential table"). Corwin periodically revised the book for nearly forty years, incorporating into each new edition his views of new Supreme Court rulings and other changes in American law. Although Corwin intended his book for the general public, his interpretations always gained the attention of legal scholars and practitioners. The prefaces he wrote to the revised editions were often controversial for the views he offered on the latest developments of constitutional law, and the book only grew in stature and recognition. After his death in 1963, other scholars prepared subsequent editions, fourteen in all.

At such a momentous point in history, it is imperative that its native and foreign constitutional authoritative voices scholarly assess the constitutional design, understand the reasons for its successes and occasional failures, and ventilate their views towards its progressive development to elevate it to a new height in the 21st century and beyond. The book chapters discuss not only the text of the constitution and some judicial precedents, rather involve in a much larger task of unveiling the interpretative approach of the Constitution from a comparative constitutional law perspective. This book shall project the future roadmap for the journey of constitutionalism in Bangladesh throughout all chapters offering policy recommendations for the revision of the Constitution.
Download or read book American Constitutional Law written by William A. Kaplin and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preface and introduction to the Teacher's Manual are available by clicking here. The 2012 Update is available by clicking here. Conveniently divided into fifteen chapters with numerous subsections, this book presents a clear, comprehensive, and integrated introduction to the U.S. Constitution and American constitutional law. Kaplin develops the basic concepts, conceptual distinctions, and first principles that provide the foundation for constitutional law; the process by which the Constitution is interpreted; and the analytical methodologies by which individual clauses are applied to new circumstances. Leading U.S. Supreme Court cases, especially the classical cases, are also presented and analyzed throughout. The author periodically uses history, political science, and jurisprudence to enhance the reader's understanding of the subject, including a section on constitutionalism from the early Greek philosophers to the present; historical timelines of Supreme Court case developments; and expositions of the American concepts of federalism and separation of powers. Several sections also discuss the inter-relationship between the federal Constitution and state constitutions. This book contains substantial study guidance for students in law school courses or law-related graduate school courses, and readers who are engaged in independent learning apart from any formal course. There are learning exercises at many points in the book, for instance, followed by answer guidelines. There is also a section on study suggestions at the end of each substantive chapter; a methodology for reading and analyzing cases; guidance on study techniques and exam taking; and bibliographies to guide further reading. The teacher's manual includes numerous realistic problems with review guidelines that the instructor may distribute to students, as well as various "analytical frameworks" that the instructor can use to guide student analysis of particular types of problems and various graphics that illustrate key concepts. The manual is also set up so that it provides instructors guidance and materials that would allow them to use the text with materials they generate on their own rather than adopting a casebook.
