Book Ophthalmology Examinations Review The Third Edition

Download or read book Ophthalmology Examinations Review The Third Edition written by Tien Yin Wong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-05-29 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the last Edition of Ophthalmology Examinations Review, there has been major new discovery in the understanding of common eye diseases, and new treatments and diagnostic procedures have been refined or newly developed.A revised Edition reflecting these changes is warranted at this time. The aim and scope of the book will be consistent with the previous two editions in that it will provide a broad review for the final year ophthalmology resident and trainees taking the specialist ophthalmology examinations. The book deals primarily with key facts and topics that are important from an examination perspective. Only information and facts that are considered relevant and critical to the exams are covered, with topics that may be of scientific interest, but are not common to exams specifically left out. This book will help the resident organize and synthesize knowledge acquired from various other sources or textbooks. While not meant to replace standard textbooks, enough information is contained within the book to serve as the main revision text nearer the exams. The style and format of this book is intentionally didactic, with questions and short answers. The answer includes a 'model opening statement,' followed by a classification system to aid organization of facts and then by the bulk of the answer in concise short notes. Exam Tips are inserted to provide an insight into how to answer different types of questions and when appropriate, a Clinical Approach section is also included. In the new edition, topics such as new understanding of disease mechanisms, new investigations (e.g. OCT), and new procedures and treatment (e.g. use of anti-vascular endothelial growth factors, new refractive surgical techniques, new corneal transplant) are covered.

Book Fundamental Osce Guide In Ophthalmology

Download or read book Fundamental Osce Guide In Ophthalmology written by Val Jun Rong Phua and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-06-27 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our world of information overload, there is an increasing struggle to keep the main thing the main thing. Fundamental OSCE Guide in Ophthalmology is a concise study guide presented in a direct, exam style question and answer format, illustrated with high quality clinically relevant photographs tailored to medical students, nurses, optometrists and residents in their early ophthalmology training. This book provides invaluable guidance to readers in presenting their answers in a logical, succinct and elegant manner. The style and format have been intentionally designed to simulate examination conditions and to provide readers with ample practice in preparation for the examinations.Ophthalmology is a very specialized field with many textbooks providing a wealth of information. Exposure to ophthalmology is limited in most undergraduate interactions to a few weeks at best. With a shortage of time, gaining a good understanding of what is important is overwhelming. This book helps to streamline and focus knowledge of readers in understanding the essential conditions in ophthalmology.Various other texts on ophthalmology are often in prose and covers a wide range of topics, including the esoteric conditions. To the untrained eye, it is difficult to discern what should be focused on. Students are often times excited about knowing rare conditions and spend precious time and effort remembering details of these conditions without a strong foundation of the more common conditions seen day to day. This books not only highlights the important conditions, it is structured to simulate examination conditions and can be used as a self-testing tool.

Book Common Eye Diseases and Their Management

Download or read book Common Eye Diseases and Their Management written by N.R. Galloway and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for the medical student and non-specialist postgraduate. It is being published at a time when hospital waiting lists for eye care in Great Britain have reached record levels and the need for more teaching at medical student level is becoming imperative. In many medical schools the students have very little exposure to the specialty; some students none at all. This may be because in past years the emphasis has been on teaching ophthalmology at a postgraduate level and a considerable development of postgraduate teaching has occurred. It had been inferred that more exposure of qualified general practitioners to the subject would reduce the hospital waiting lists since more eye care would take place in general practice. It would appear that the reverse has taken place: general practitioners, being now more aware of eye problems, send even more cases to the hospitals. In the absence of an expansion of the hospital service there is an urgent need to improve primary care ophthalmology and this can best be done by placing more emphasis on the teaching of medical students. It is against this background that the need to provide a new basic textbook in ophthalmology arises. The book is, therefore, aimed primarily at the medical student. It does, however, aim to make preliminary reading for the postgraduate student.

Download or read book Vision for the World written by Arthur Siew Ming Lim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of mass blindness today stems largely from cataract which accounts for a total of 40 million cataract victims in the world -- and it will worsen with the ageing population. Fortunately, this problem can be resolved with cost effective extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) and posterior chamber implantation (PCI). This book highlights how the use of ECCE and PCI can restore normal vision to cataract victims around the world. A successful approach is to establish training centres. The success of the International Intraocular Implant Training Centre (IIITC) in the Peoples' Republic of China is cited to show that implant surgery for cataracts can be successfully performed in communities in developing nations in Asia with appropriate training and supervision. The centre has since yielded excellent results with cost effective ECCE and PCI. The book challenges eye surgeons around the world to unite to address a global need to contain world cataract blindness.
