Download or read book Women Business and the Law 2021 written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2021-04-05 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women, Business and the Law 2021 is the seventh in a series of annual studies measuring the laws and regulations that affect women’s economic opportunity in 190 economies. The project presents eight indicators structured around women’s interactions with the law as they move through their lives and careers: Mobility, Workplace, Pay, Marriage, Parenthood, Entrepreneurship, Assets, and Pension. This year’s report updates all indicators as of October 1, 2020 and builds evidence of the links between legal gender equality and women’s economic inclusion. By examining the economic decisions women make throughout their working lives, as well as the pace of reform over the past 50 years, Women, Business and the Law 2021 makes an important contribution to research and policy discussions about the state of women’s economic empowerment. Prepared during a global pandemic that threatens progress toward gender equality, this edition also includes important findings on government responses to COVID-19 and pilot research related to childcare and women’s access to justice.

This book was released on 2022-07-29 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Consolidated guidelines on HIV, viral hepatitis and STI prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for key populations outline a public health response for five key populations (men who have sex with men, trans and gender diverse people, sex workers, people who inject drugs and people in prisons and other closed settings). They present and discuss new recommendations and consolidate a range of recommendations and guidance from current WHO guidelines. Particularly for key populations, social, legal, structural and other contextual factors both increase vulnerability to HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs and obstruct access to health and other essential services. These guidelines highlight the critical importance of addressing structural barriers in all settings as a priority. In most countries, inadequate coverage and poor quality of services for key populations continue to undermine responses to HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs. All countries should prioritise reaching key populations and supporting key population communities to lead the response and provide equitable, accessible and acceptable services. Download or read book State of inequality HIV tuberculosis and malaria written by and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2021-12-08 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report delivers the first systematic analysis of available data to make an authoritative statement on the status of inequality in HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. Monitoring inequalities in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria (in terms of burden, prevention and treatment) helps to pinpoint where there may be gaps and identify population groups that are being left behind, and support countries and international organizations to tailor policies, programmes, and service provision to close these gaps. The objectives of the report are to: assess the latest status and change of inequality in HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis globally; identify good-performing countries in terms of equity as well as countries that have room for improvement; and investigate the association of inequality with inequality in other health topics, social determinants of health and access to health facilities. This report supports Output 4.1.2 of GPW 13 (GPW 13 impacts and outcomes, global and regional health trends, Sustainable Development Goal indicators, health inequalities and disaggregated data monitored). Similar analysis have been previously conducted and published for other disease topics, including State of inequality: Childhood immunization and State of inequality: Reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health.

Download or read book Particles and Health 2021 an International Conference Addressing Issues in Science and Regulation written by Robert McCunney and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-01-30 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particles and Health is an international conference taking place in October 2021 addressing issues in science and regulation. Regulatory initiatives in the European Union (EU) have suggested uniform hazard classifications for all poorly soluble low toxicity particles (PSLTs). Examples of PSLTs include carbon black, titanium dioxide and iron oxide, among others. Approaches have also been proposed for setting workplace exposure limits for PSLTs such as those of the German MAK Commission. The conference will include specific sections over a two day period of about 25 presentations, associated with PSLTs regarding the following major topics: (1) human studies, (2) animal inhalation studies associated with lung cancer,(3) animal and human studies associated with non pulmonary impacts, including reproductive, genetic and cardiac effects, and (4) regulatory application of scientific studies. This conference will include presentations regarding: Definition of PSLT’s with attention to both similarities and differences among these substances. • Address scientific studies regarding human health effects of PSLTs. The value of human studies over animal studies-when human-exposed populations can be studied adequately- will be emphasized. • Address translational toxicology challenges, including the appropriateness of rats as models for human lung pathogenesis (particularly lung cancer) in light of lung overload phenomena and species differences. • Serve as a platform to present current scientific information about PSLTs important for regulatory action. • Publication of pertinent conference presentations in the peer reviewed scientific literature will allow the presentations to live beyond the conference and subsequently be reviewed part of regulatory deliberations. • Establish an interdisciplinary setting for industry, academia and regulatory professionals to interact on an important topic. Such interaction can facilitate enhanced understanding of the science and ideally, more appropriate regulations, appropriate classification and labeling as well as for setting exposure limits, among others. • Recommend areas for further clarifying research regarding the significance of the rat as a model for translation toxicology. The goal of this conference is to present current scientific evidence regarding the numerous dimensions of particles and health and to facilitate interaction and discussions among attendees with expertise in toxicology, epidemiology, occupational and pulmonary medicine and exposure assessment. Interactions between these disciplines will aid in the sound and evidence-based scientific underpinning of regulatory considerations regarding PSLTs. Although regulatory concern regarding PSLTs has focused on lung cancer risk as a result of rat inhalation overload studies, this conference will address all relevant health end points, including genetic and reproductive issues as well, consistent with ECHA guidelines. Sample of Topics related to substances that may be characterized as PSLTs, including carbon black, coal, titanium dioxide, cerium oxide, aluminum oxide barium sulfate and iron oxide, among others. • Defining PSLTs • Epidemiological studies of PSLTs • Inhalation studies evaluating human cellular response to particles • Basic research studies on inflammatory to malignancy pathways • Animal studies, PLSTs and human risk: “New Insights into old data.” • New studies on PSLTs; 2 year carcinogenicity assays • Animal studies and gender specific responses to PSLTs. How does the USA National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) address this challenge of extrapolating rodent data to human risk assessment? • Role of the rodent model in human risk assessment of PSLTs and lung cancer risk • Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) and Modes of Action (MOA): identification and recommendations for closing gaps in knowledge for rodents and humans. • Are there lessons to be learned from how the pharmaceutical industry’s approach to translational science (safety and efficacy) as evolved in recent years? • Setting exposure limits for PSLTs and Translational Toxicology. • Genotoxicity and Reproductive toxicity studies of PSLTs.
Download or read book Black Lives White Law written by Russell Marks and published by La Trobe University Press. This book was released on 2022-08-02 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How and why Australia's legal system fails Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 'Russell Marks unravels a national tragedy. From the front line he delivers a first-rate, firsthand account of how so many First Nations people end up in jail, again and again.' --Patrick Dodson, Labor Senator for Western Australia Indigenous Australians are the most incarcerated people on the planet. Indigenous men are fifteen times more likely to be locked up than their non-Indigenous counterparts; Indigenous women are twenty-one times more likely. Featuring vivid case studies and drawing on a deep sense of history, Black Lives, White Law explores Australia's extraordinary record of locking up First Nations people. It examines Australia's system of criminal justice -- the web of laws and courts and police and prisons -- and how that system interacts with First Nations people and communities. How is it that so many are locked up? Why have imprisonment rates increased in recent years? Is this situation fair? Almost everyone agrees that it's not. And yet it keeps getting worse. In this groundbreaking book, Russell Marks investigates Australia's incarceration epidemic. What would happen if the institutions of Australian justice received the same scrutiny to which they routinely subject Indigenous Australians? 'How should we tell the story of Indigenous incarceration in Australia? Only part of it is in the numbers. And we can't get very far by looking at the crimes that see Indigenous offenders punished by courts and sentenced to prison ... To really grapple with the problem of Indigenous incarceration requires us to accept the possibility that there might be another way. That the current state of affairs -- where entire families sometimes spend time behind bars -- is not inevitable.' --Russell Marks Shortlisted, Australian Political Book of the Year 2023 Shortlisted, Prime Minister's Literary Awards 2023 'This passionate, timely book shines a critical light on First Nations' incarceration rates in Australia, bringing history into the present with a sense of urgency and purpose ... Powerfully interventionist while avoiding polemic, this book reminds us that frontier violence has a present as well as a past.' --Judges' comments, Prime Minister's Literary Awards
