Book A Study of Variable Geometry in Advanced Gas Turbines

Download or read book A Study of Variable Geometry in Advanced Gas Turbines written by and published by . This book was released on 1909 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The loss of performance of a gas turbine engine at off-design is primarily due to the rapid drop of the major cycle performance parameters with decrease in power and this may be aggravated by poor component performance. More and more stringent requirements are being put on the performance demanded from gas turbines and if future engines are to exhibit performances superior to those of present day: engines, then a means must be found of controlling engine cycle such that the lapse rate of the major cycle parameters with power is reduced. In certain applications, it may be desirable to vary engine cycle with operating conditions in an attempt to re-optimize performance. Variable geometry in key engine components offers the advantage of either improving the internal performance of a component or re-matching engine cycle to alter the flow-temperature-pressure relationships. Either method has the potential to improve engine performance. Future gas turbines, more so those for aeronautical applications, will extensively use variable geometry components and therefore, a tool must exist which is capable of evaluating the off-design performance of such engines right from the conceptual stage. With this in mind, a computer program was developed which can simulate the steady state performance of arbitrary gas turbines with or without variable geometry in the gas path components. The program is a thermodynamic component-matching analysis program which uses component performance maps to evaluate the conditions of the gas at the various engine stations. The program was used to study the performance of a number of cycles incorporating variable geometry and it was concluded that variable geometry can significantly improve the off-design performance of gas turbines.

Book Study of Variable Turbine Geometry for Small Gas Turbine Engines

Download or read book Study of Variable Turbine Geometry for Small Gas Turbine Engines written by Robert L. Messerlie and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical investigation of the transient and steady-state performance of a series of gas-turbine engines utilizing variable geometry in the turbine was completed. Shaft-power engines with and without regeneration and incorporating either free- or single-shaft configurations were investigated at compressor pressure ratios of 10 and 16. In addition free-shaft, simple-cycle, high bypass, fan engines were evaluated using the 10- and 16-pressure-ratio gas generators for the high pressure system. Extensive use was made of the IBM 7094 II digital computer to analyze both the turbine and overall engine performance. (Author).

Book Industrial Gas Turbines

Download or read book Industrial Gas Turbines written by A M Y Razak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial Gas Turbines: Performance and Operability explains important aspects of gas turbine performance such as performance deterioration, service life and engine emissions. Traditionally, gas turbine performance has been taught from a design perspective with insufficient attention paid to the operational issues of a specific site. Operators are not always sufficiently familiar with engine performance issues to resolve operational problems and optimise performance.Industrial Gas Turbines: Performance and Operability discusses the key factors determining the performance of compressors, turbines, combustion and engine controls. An accompanying engine simulator CD illustrates gas turbine performance from the perspective of the operator, building on the concepts discussed in the text. The simulator is effectively a virtual engine and can be subjected to operating conditions that would be dangerous and damaging to an engine in real-life conditions. It also deals with issues of engine deterioration, emissions and turbine life. The combined use of text and simulators is designed to allow the reader to better understand and optimise gas turbine operation. Discusses the key factors in determining the perfomance of compressors, turbines, combustion and engine controls Explains important aspects of gas and turbine perfomance such as service life and engine emissions Accompanied by CD illustrating gas turbine performance, building on the concepts discussed in the text

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of a bestseller, this comprehensive reference provides the fundamental information required to understand both the operation and proper application of all types of gas turbines. The completely updated second edition adds a new section on use of inlet cooling for power augmentation and NOx control. It explores the full spectrum of gas turbines hardware, typical application scenarios, and operating parameters, controls, inlet treatments, inspection, trouble-shooting, and more. The author discusses strategies that can help readers avoid problems before they occur and provides tips that enable diagnosis of problems in their early stages and analysis of failures to prevent their recurrence.

Book Gas Turbine Design Components and System Design Integration

Download or read book Gas Turbine Design Components and System Design Integration written by Meinhard T. Schobeiri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second revised and enhanced edition of the book Gas Turbine Design, Components and System Integration written by a world-renowned expert with more than forty years of active gas turbine R&D experience. It comprehensively treats the design of gas turbine components and their integration into a complete system. Unlike many currently available gas turbine handbooks that provide the reader with an overview without in-depth treatment of the subject, the current book is concentrated on a detailed aero-thermodynamics, design and off-deign performance aspects of individual components as well as the system integration and its dynamic operation. This new book provides practicing gas turbine designers and young engineers working in the industry with design material that the manufacturers would keep proprietary. The book is also intended to provide instructors of turbomachinery courses around the world with a powerful tool to assign gas turbine components as project and individual modules that are integrated into a complete system. Quoting many statements by the gas turbine industry professionals, the young engineers graduated from the turbomachinery courses offered by the author, had the competency of engineers equivalent to three to four years of industrial experience.
