Book The Right to Health Care Ethical Considerations

Download or read book The Right to Health Care Ethical Considerations written by Eike-Henner W. Kluge and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth ethical analysis of the right to health care by contrasting privatized with socialized approaches. It pays special attention to how a socialized approach can be implemented in the context of limited resources and offers a way of integrating allocation decisions at the policy level with institutional and hands-on decision-making. It also discusses how the right to health care translates into duties on part of the members of society. In an Appendix, it suggests how, in time of need, the TRIPS Agreement allows countries to side-step patent regulations that would otherwise raise the cost of patented healthcare products beyond what a particular society is able to afford. The book is of interest not only to scholars but also to healthcare policy makers, administrators and healthcare professionals, as well as to patients themselves.

Book Quatrem re de Quincy s Moral Considerations on the Place and Purpose of Works of Art

Download or read book Quatrem re de Quincy s Moral Considerations on the Place and Purpose of Works of Art written by Antoine Chrysostome Quatremère de Quincy and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antoine Chrysostome Quatremère de Quincy (1755-1849) was the most important Neoclassical art historian in the generation after Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768). It is difficult now to appreciate his importance, due in part to the lack of translations of his 21 published books: three were rendered into English in the 19th century, and one in the 21st. The Moral Considerations has long been considered the most shattering polemic against public museums ever written. But I will show that Quatremère’s polemic was aimed, not against museums per se, but rather against the imperialist and secularist curatorial purposes of Parisian museums in the age of Revolution. His Neoclassical commitments maintained the centrality of religion, and of incarnation, to any proper understanding of the place and purpose of the fine arts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cybersecurity Key Legal Considerations for the Aviation and Space Sectors Federico Bergamasco, Roberto Cassar, Rada Popova & Benjamyn I. Scott As the aviation and space sectors become ever more connected to cyberspace and reliant on related technology, they become more vulnerable to potential cyberattacks. As a result, cybersecurity is a growing concern that all stakeholders in both sectors must consider. In this forward-looking book, which is the first comprehensive analysis of the relevant facets of cybersecurity in the aviation and space sectors, the authors explore the vast spectrum of relevant international and European Union (EU) law, with specific attention to associated risks, existing legal provisions and the potential development of new rules. Beginning with an overview of the different types of malicious cyber operations, the book proceeds to set the terminological landscape relevant to its core theme. It takes a top-down approach by first analysing general international and EU law related to cybersecurity, then moving to the more specific aspects of the aviation and space sectors, including telecommunications. Finally, the salient features of these analyses are combined with the practical realities in the relevant industries, giving due regard to legal and regulatory initiatives, industry standards and best practices. The broad range of issues and topics covered includes the following and more: whether the various facets of the international law on conflict apply in cyberspace and to cyberattacks; substantial policy and regulatory developments taking place at the EU level, including the activities of its relevant institutions, bodies and entities; jurisdiction and attributability issues relevant to cybersecurity in the aviation and space sectors; vulnerability of space systems, including large constellations, to malicious cyber activities and electromagnetic interference; various challenges for critical infrastructure resulting from, e.g., its interdependency, cross-border nature, public-private ownership and dual civil-military uses; safety and security in international air transportation, with special attention to the Chicago Convention and its Annexes; aviation liability and compensation in cases of cyberattacks, and insurance coverage against cyber risks; review of malicious relevant actors, malicious cyber operations, the typical life cycle of a cyberattack and industry responses. This book clearly responds to the need to elaborate adequate legal rules for ensuring that the multiple inlets for malicious cyber operations and the management of cybersecurity risks are addressed appropriately. It will be welcomed by all parties involved with aviation and space law and policy, including lawyers, governments, regulators, academics, manufacturers, operators, airports, and international governmental and non-governmental organisations. Review / Testimonial: ”In conclusion, I highly recommend this book for all scholars and practitioners of space and aviation law who need (and we all do!) a highly accurate and comprehensive background to these issues of cybersecurity.” Larry Martinez / German Journal of Air and Space Law (Zeitschrift für Luft- und Weltraumrecht) issue 2, 2021

Book Common Standards for K 12 Education

Download or read book Common Standards for K 12 Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standards-based accountability has become a central feature of the public education system in each state and is a theme of national discussions about how achievement for all students can be improved and achievement gaps narrowed. Questions remain, however, about the implementation of standards and accountability systems and about whether their potential benefits have been fully realized. Each of the 50 states has adopted its own set of standards, and though there is overlap among them, there is also wide variation in the ways states have devised and implemented their systems. This variety may have both advantages and disadvantages, but it nevertheless raises a fundamental question: Is the establishment of common K-12 academic standards, which states could voluntarily adopt, the logical next step for standards-based reform? The goal of this book is not to answer the policy question of whether or not common standards would be a good idea. Rather, the book provides an objective look at the available evidence regarding the ways in which standards are currently functioning, the strategies that might be used to pursue common standards, and the issues that doing so might present.
