Book Conservation Stories For Children

Download or read book Conservation Stories For Children written by Evren Sener and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many scientists believe that the world has begun a sixth mass extinction- the first to be caused by humans. Other recent analyses have revealed that humankind has destroyed 83% of all mammals and half of plants since the dawn of civilization. If the destruction were to end now, it would take 5-7 million years for the natural world to recover.Wildlife conservation is the practice of protecting wild species and their habitats to prevent species from going extinct. Major threats to wildlife include habitat destruction, overexploitation, poaching, pollution, and climate change. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates that 27,000 species are at risk for extinction. There have been both national and international governmental and nongovernmental organizations (NGO's) dedicated to conservation efforts to preserve Earth's wildlife. Our children are born into a world that has been polluted and destroyed by our ancestors and us. They are the next generation who can make a change to stop this, and they are putting an effort to do so. School strikes and protests organized by young adults are continuing all around the world. Teenagers are pushing hard for their voice to be heard to the political leaders to take action to prevent climate change and fossil fuel industry to transition to renewable energy because they do not want to live in a world like this anymore. I have written these conservation stories to make the children more aware and help them grow conscious about the wildlife species. Some of these species are more at risk for extinction than others, such as orangutans, whales, and elephants, which play a crucial role in climate change and the ecosystem. This book is not just for children who are above seven years old but also for the adults who want to know more about conservation and climate change.

Book Last Child in the Woods

Download or read book Last Child in the Woods written by Richard Louv and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2008-04-22 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book That Launched an International Movement Fans of The Anxious Generation will adore Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv's groundbreaking New York Times bestseller. “An absolute must-read for parents.” —The Boston Globe “It rivals Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring.” —The Cincinnati Enquirer “I like to play indoors better ’cause that’s where all the electrical outlets are,” reports a fourth grader. But it’s not only computers, television, and video games that are keeping kids inside. It’s also their parents’ fears of traffic, strangers, Lyme disease, and West Nile virus; their schools’ emphasis on more and more homework; their structured schedules; and their lack of access to natural areas. Local governments, neighborhood associations, and even organizations devoted to the outdoors are placing legal and regulatory constraints on many wild spaces, sometimes making natural play a crime. As children’s connections to nature diminish and the social, psychological, and spiritual implications become apparent, new research shows that nature can offer powerful therapy for such maladies as depression, obesity, and attention deficit disorder. Environment-based education dramatically improves standardized test scores and grade-point averages and develops skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making. Anecdotal evidence strongly suggests that childhood experiences in nature stimulate creativity. In Last Child in the Woods, Louv talks with parents, children, teachers, scientists, religious leaders, child-development researchers, and environmentalists who recognize the threat and offer solutions. Louv shows us an alternative future, one in which parents help their kids experience the natural world more deeply—and find the joy of family connectedness in the process. Included in this edition: A Field Guide with 100 Practical Actions We Can Take Discussion Points for Book Groups, Classrooms, and Communities Additional Notes by the Author New and Updated Research from the U.S. and Abroad

Book Conservation Experiences for Children Bulletin 1957

Download or read book Conservation Experiences for Children Bulletin 1957 written by Effie G. Bathurst and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bulletin for teachers and supervisors tells how children of the United States are learning to conserve the Nation's reserves of soil, water, forests, fish, wildlife, minerals, and other natural resources. The purpose of this bulletin is to serve as a source of good practices to be dipped into as needed for ideas, not necessarily to be read chapter by chapter. Most of the information was collected through visits to schools in 28 States in the major conservation regions of the Nation. The information has been interpreted and supplemented by interviews with State department of education supervisors and conservation consultants. The bulletin presents realistically some of the problems related to conservation of various natural resources in such a way that, when comparable situations are found, a teacher may use the volume as a source for ideas to help her pupils understand their own conservation problems, decided what ought to be done about them, and make plans for action. Individual parts contain footnotes. [Best copy available has been provided.].

Book excerpt: Discover Jane Goodall's big ideas about conserving habitats and ways even the youngest kids can help, too! Even little children can make a positive impact on the environment. Jane Goodall has dedicated her life to studying chimpanzees, and realized that sometimes people hurt the places where animals have always lived. She began to teach others how we can enjoy nature while also making sure that the homes of animals aren’t suffering. Kids will come away from this book with questions about what animal habitats they can care for in their own community, and how conservation work makes sure all people and animals have a healthy home. Look for the other books in the Big Ideas for Little Environmentalists series: Restoration with Wangari Maathai, Preservation with Aldo Leopold, and Ecosystems with Rachel Carson.
