But when the two girls are thrown together for a year-long science project, they discover they do have one thing in common: They’re both obsessed with the same online gaming star and his hilarious videos. If they can stick together, this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship—the kind Kat never knew she wanted and Meg never believed she'd find. “Kat and Meg Conquer the World will hit home for anyone who has ever been waist-deep in fandom, doubt, or new relationships; Kat’s and Meg’s unique voices are outstanding, and their friendship brings this story to vibrant life."—Francesca Zappia, author of Made You Up and Eliza and Her Monsters

Book excerpt: I have always been a soldier. I have known no other life. So begins Alexander’s extraordinary confession on the eve of his greatest crisis of leadership. By turns heroic and calculating, compassionate and utterly merciless, Alexander recounts with a warrior’s unflinching eye for detail the blood, the terror, and the tactics of his greatest battlefield victories. Whether surviving his father’s brutal assassination, presiding over a massacre, or weeping at the death of a beloved comrade-in-arms, Alexander never denies the hard realities of the code by which he lives: the virtues of war. But as much as he was feared by his enemies, he was loved and revered by his friends, his generals, and the men who followed him into battle. Often outnumbered, never outfought, Alexander conquered every enemy the world stood against him–but the one he never saw coming. . . . • ISBN : 9780615821986
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book How to Conquer Yourself written by Bryan Ogilvie and published by Dotheknowledge.com. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I believe that life is meant to be conquered, and that a creative, intelligent psyche - a self-aware, self-directed thinker - is an unconquerable force." To see this force in action however, to grasp this creative strength and wield its power in actual life, requires one to both think and act in a disciplined way: to both see one's world through a disciplined frame of mind and construct one's goals through a disciplined style of behavior. The strength to conquer one's creative potential, therefore, first begins with the strength to conquer one's self." ~ from pg. 1 of How to Conquer Yourself What is willpower? What is discipline? Productivity? Self-motivation? How can we internalize these traits, making them our habitual style of behavior and natural process of thought, rather than the exception, both in the short-term and over the long range? Why do some of the most creative, intelligent, consciously aware and sophisticated thinkers we know still have trouble making constructive use of their talents and skills? What would your life be like - what would your drive and ambition unfold into - if there were no impediments to their authority or expression...if you were constantly at your prime, indefinitely? These are the questions this book answers, amongst many more. These are the solutions it provides and the new dimensions it'll open up for you, once you take the step to check it out. CHAPTERS INCLUDE: How to OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION How to Attain Discipline How to Build Motivation How to Raise Productivity How to Develop Systems How to Cultivate Willpower How to Conquer Yourself: Discipline and Willpower for the Conscious, Creative Thinker is specifically about how artists, musicians, graphic designers, film-makers, writers and other creative professionals can best refine their behavior and discipline themselves for success in their respective crafts. It's specifically written to serve as a strategic blueprint helping you to cultivate the motivation and willpower your goals necessitate and demand of you. Because let's face it: if you're a conscious, creative person, just as the work you prefer to create is free-formed, liberal and self-expressive, the path to success you need to pursue is likewise undefined. That's the catch-22, the "negative side," to having artistic talent...you can never be too sure that it'll become something significant (in the material sense) and that anxiety will continue to undermine and sabotage your focus until you put a framework in place. Remember this: if you don't develop a science and a methodology to sustain both your artistic skill and your ambition, you're going to end up neglecting and sacrificing both, which'll lead you to, eventually, neglect and sacrifice a central element to your identity; to lose sight of who you are as a person. But again, when you're creative, just as the work you prefer to produce is freeform and self-expressive, the path you need to pursue is likewise freeform and undefined, so as a conscious, creative person, you need a lot more discipline than the average bear - you need, in fact, more willpower than the average person is even capable of envisioning. If this person is you, if this subject interest you at all, this book was written for you. Check out How to Conquer Yourself: Discipline & Willpower for the Conscious, Creative Thinker now...

Book The Uncommon Common Sense of Conquering Yourself

Download or read book The Uncommon Common Sense of Conquering Yourself written by James H. Mendoza and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-02-24 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we get irritated, mad, emotional, resentful, furious, upset, hateful, etc., the adrenaline, norepinephrine, and dopaminepowerful hormones that are part of the human bodyacute stress response system are secreted into the bloodstream. They affect our body by stimulating the heart rate, shrinking blood vessels, and expanding our trachea and bronchia, inflating and deflating our lungs during high stress or exciting circumstances, all of which work to upsurge blood flow to the muscles and oxygen to the lungs. When these hormones are forwarded into the bloodstream from the adrenal glands located on top of the kidneys (about three inches or 7.6 cm in length), at least one of the electrons from the atoms that form the cells of every organ of our body is replaced by one electron of these hormones, amplifying our energy and turning it more capable of executing (in a microsecond) reactions not commonly done under normal conditions. These natural self-doping boosters are reserved for the defense department. These reactions may cause us to run faster, jump higher, scream louder, or take higher risks, putting our life or the life of others in danger by acting irrationally, having incontrollable body reactions designed to defend ourselves as part of our defense mechanism system. The ideal response to our problems is to deal with them with objectivity without any emotional attachments to them in that way to avoid all the reactions that cause illnesses and complications to ourselves.

Book Fyodor Dostoyevsky Uncle s Dream If You Want to Overcome the Whole World Overcome Yourself

Download or read book Fyodor Dostoyevsky Uncle s Dream If You Want to Overcome the Whole World Overcome Yourself written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-15 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fyodor Dostoyevsky was born on 11th November 1821. He was introduced to literature very early. At age three, it was heroic sagas, fairy tales and legends. At four his mother used the Bible to teach him to read and write. His immersion in literature was wide and varied. His imagination, he later recalled, was brought to life by his parents' nightly readings. On 27th September 1837 tragedy struck. Dostoyevsky's mother died of tuberculosis. Dostoyevsky and his brother were now enrolled at the Nikolayev Military Engineering Institute, their academic studies abandoned for military careers. Dostoyevsky disliked the academy, his interests were drawing and architecture. His father died on 16th June 1839 and perhaps triggered Dostoyevsky's epilepsy. However, he continued his studies, passed his exams and obtained the rank of engineer cadet. Dostoyevsky's first completed work was a translation of Honoré de Balzac's novel Eugénie Grandet, published in 1843. It was not successful. He believed his financial difficulties could be overcome by writing his own novel. The result was 'Poor Folk', published in 1846, and a commercial success. His next novel, 'The Double', appeared in January 1846. Dostoyevsky now became immersed in socialism. However, 'The Double' received bad reviews and he now had more frequent seizures. With debts mounting he joined the utopian socialist Betekov circle, which helped him to survive. When that dissolved he joined the Petrashevsky Circle, which proposed social reforms. The Petrashevsky Circle was then denounced and Dostoyevsky accused of reading and distributing banned works. Arrests took place in late April 1849 and its members sentenced to death by firing squad. The Tsar commuted the sentence to four years of exile with hard labour in Siberia. His writings on these prison experiences, 'The House of the Dead' were published in 1861. In Saint Petersburg that September he promised his editor he would deliver 'The Gambler', a novella on gambling addiction, by November, although work had yet to begin. It was completed in a mere 26 days. Other works followed but a different approach helped immensely. In 1873 'Demons' was published by the "Dostoyevsky Publishing Company". Only payment in cash was accepted and the bookshop was the family apartment. It sold around 3,000 copies. However, Dostoyevsky's health continued to decline, and in March 1877 he had four epileptic seizures. In August 1879 he was diagnosed with early-stage pulmonary emphysema. He was told it could be managed, but not cured. On 26th January 1881 Dostoyevsky suffered a pulmonary haemorrhage. After the second the doctors gave a poor prognosis. A third haemorrhage followed shortly afterwards. Fyodor Dostoyevsky died on 9th February, 1881.
