Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Pour une conomie du bien commun written by Christian Felber and published by Dunod. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book conomie du bien public written by Fouad Sabry and published by One Billion Knowledgeable. This book was released on 2024-02-17 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Economics for the Common Good

Download or read book Economics for the Common Good written by Jean Tirole and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When Jean Tirole won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Economics, he suddenly found himself being stopped in the street by complete strangers and asked to comment on issues of the day, no matter how distant from his own areas of research. His transformation from academic economist to public intellectual prompted him to reflect further on the role economists and their discipline play in society. The result is Economics for the Common Good, a passionate manifesto for a world in which economics, far from being a 'dismal science,' is a positive force for the common good. Economists are rewarded for writing technical papers in scholarly journals, not joining in public debates. But Tirole says we urgently need economists to engage with the many challenges facing society, helping to identify our key objectives and the tools needed to meet them. To show how economics can help us realize the common good, Tirole shares his insights on a broad array of questions affecting our everyday lives and the future of our society, including global warming, unemployment, the post-2008 global financial order, the euro crisis, the digital revolution, innovation, and the proper balance between the free market and regulation. Providing a rich account of how economics can benefit everyone, Economics for the Common Good sets a new agenda for the role of economics in society"--Provided by publisher.

Download or read book Les paradoxes de l conomie du savoir written by GUILHON Bernard and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Catholic Social Thought

Download or read book Catholic Social Thought written by Jonathan Boswell and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2000 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These essays are an attempt to recover something of the form, style and force of Catholic non-official social thinking in the face of contemporary social thought and contemporary injustice in advanced societies. After an opening essay by the doyen of Catholic writers in this field, Jean-Yves Calvez, SJ, the book is divided into three sections. The first and largest group of essays discuss patterns and predicaments of Catholic social thought in general terms and from different points of view. The context here is partly the debate on modernity, high-modernity and post-modernity, partly the issue of how far and in what ways Catholic Social Thought can claim to be distinctive, relative to contemporary secular thought. The second section of the book focusses on relationships between Catholic social thought and its restatement, and a number of contemporary debates on public issues. Particular attention is given, in successive essays, to issues of anti-poverty, human rights, economic theory and international finance. A third and shorter section describes a number of institutional projects which attempt to carry Catholic social values forward into concrete action, focussing on work in health and welfare, grass roots economic co-operation, anti-poverty and international peace and justice. Final contributions by the reputed international scholar in this field, John Coleman, SJ, and the book editors, respectively evaluate the collection as a whole and discuss further steps.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper examines the causes and potential remedies for structural unemployment in France. Structural unemployment in France has long been elevated, and appears to have edged up further since the crisis. This reflects both demand and supply factors, including: high labor taxes, wage stickiness, a growing skill gap, hysteresis effects from the crisis years, a lengthy period of elevated economic uncertainty, inactivity traps created by the unemployment and welfare benefit systems, and demographic factors that have pushed up the labor force. The cyclical recovery is projected to bring down the unemployment rate only slowly. Reducing labor tax wedges can increase both output and employment.

Book The Economy in its house 2022 edition

Download or read book The Economy in its house 2022 edition written by Marcel Aucoin and published by Iggybook. This book was released on 2023-06-26T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title ― The Economy in its House ― echoes Xenophon’s book, Œconomicus, which focuses on the relationship of a house with its environment rather than on trade. It also makes reference to a question from Socrates: "What is a house?". It is by striving to explore these relationships and questions, reflecting the conditions of our time, that we have concluded that the economy is in its house ― and that changes everything. Indeed, this leads us to establish a foundation ― new but grafted onto ancient roots ― for economics. By integrating into our theory the unpredictable environment, we provide economists with a framework to address the multiple issues that arise not only in our common home, the Earth, but also to all other houses. Our model is based on the hypothesis of the random nature of the economy, which brings us closer to modern physics and its methods. On these pillars, our model abstracts economic agents and focuses attention on the interconnected constituents of the house, both their mutual statistical relationships, and those they have with the environment. The covariance matrix that retraces such relationships indicates how the environment disrupts, on average, each constituent during a period. This gives the possibility to explore the destinies of the houses in the short, middle or long run, through crises and changing perspectives of ruin. It makes it possible to identify three essential variables: the growth factor, the growth energy, and finally the prices’ root, which is also the weight of the unit of account and an anti-ruin coefficient. One of the characteristics of modern houses is that, among their constituents, positive covariances outweigh negative covariances. Hence their growth: we explore its links with the reduction of inequalities, and its pathologies: pollution and depletion of resources. We shows how we can fight against crises and inequalities through greater solidarity. We show that one can model any house by use of a miniature house ― its soul ― with two components (the hearth and the roof), and three guiding parameters: exposure to hazards, security, and performance. With these guides, one expresses all the macroeconomic variables relative to a house. These are preserved by passing from a house ― whatever its importance ― to its soul. The wealth of the results obtained shows that the path open must allow economists to go farther and safer in their work while also enabling a broader public to better understand what the economy is.

Book Evolution of Marine Coastal Ecosystems under the Pressure of Global Changes

Download or read book Evolution of Marine Coastal Ecosystems under the Pressure of Global Changes written by Hubert-Jean Ceccaldi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-15 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal and estuarine environments at the interface of terrestrial and marine areas are among the most productive in the world. However, since the beginning of the industrial era, these ecosystems have been subjected to strong anthropogenic pressures intensified from the second half of the 20th century, when there was a marked acceleration in the warming (climate change) of the continents, particularly at high latitudes. Coastal ecosystems are highly vulnerable to alteration of their physical, chemical and biological characteristics (marine intrusion, acidification of marine environments, changes in ecosystems, evolution and artificialization of the coastline, etc.).In contact with heavily populated areas, these environments are often the receptacle of a lot of chemical and biological pollution sources that significantly diminish their resilience. In this context of accelerated evolution and degradation of these areas important for food security of many populations around the world, it is necessary to better identify the factors of pressure and understand, at different scales of observation, their effects and impacts on the biodiversity and on the socio-eco-systems, in order to determine the degree of vulnerability of these coastal ecosystems and the risks they face. A transdisciplinary and integrated approach is required to prevent risks. Within this framework, operational coastal oceanography occupies an important place but also the implementation of a true socio-eco-system approach in order to set up an environmentally friendly development.
