Book excerpt: “Is it working? Your belief system, that is. Is it really working? God’s intention all along has been for the believer’s life to work. From divine perspective toward terrestrial turf, God meant for his children to succeed. . . Are our Christian lives successful? Are they achieving and experiencing what Scripture said they would? In a recent sermon my son-in-law preached, Curt told us the only way we were going to impact the world and the next generation is to prove that our faith in Christ is real and that it works. For countless Christians I’m convinced it’s real. My concern is whether or not we have the fruit to suggest it works.”—Beth Moore; Believing God

Book The Gospel Call and True Conversion

Download or read book The Gospel Call and True Conversion written by Paul Washer and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2013-06-21 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Paul gave the gospel the first place in his preaching, endeavored with all his might to proclaim it clearly, and even went so far as to pronounce a curse upon all those who would pervert its truth. Yet how sad it is that many, even among those considering themselves evangelicals, have reduced the gospel message to a few trite statements to be repeated, and view conversion as a mere human decision. In The Gospel Call and True Conversion , Paul Washer challenges such easy believism as he examines the real meaning of things like faith, repentance, and receiving Christ. He also deals extensively with the effects of saving grace that God promises in the new covenant; namely, the creation of new hearts and new people. Table of Contents: PART ONE: The Gospel Call 1. A Call to Repentance 2. A Call to Faith 3. Believe and Confess 4. Receiving Christ 5. Christ at Heart’s Door PART TWO: New Hearts and the Nature of True Conversion 6. The Great Motive and End of Salvation 7. The Author of Salvation 8. Separation and Cleansing 9. A New Heart 10. The Effectual Spirit PART THREE: New People and the Nature of True Conversion 11. The Glory of the New Covenant 12. The Making of New People 13. The Christian’s Sure Knowledge of God 14. The Heart and Way of God’s People 15. The Everlasting Covenant 16. God’s Goodness to His People Series Descriptions Although the Recovering the Gospel Series does not represent an entirely systematic presentation of the gospel, it does address most of the essential elements, especially those that are most neglected in contemporary Christianity. It is the hope of the author that these words might be a guide to help you rediscover the gospel in all its beauty, scandal, and saving power. It is his prayer that such a rediscovery might transform your life, strengthen your proclamation, and bring the greatest glory to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book A History of Ecology and Environmentalism in Spanish American Literature

Download or read book A History of Ecology and Environmentalism in Spanish American Literature written by Scott M. DeVries and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A History of Ecology and Environmentalism in Spanish American Literature undertakes a comprehensive ecocritical examination of the region’s literature from the foundational texts of the nineteenth century to the most recent fiction. The book begins with a consideration of the way in which Argentine Domingo Faustino Sarmiento’s views of nature through the lens of the categories of “civilization” and “barbarity” from Facundo (1845) are systematically challenged and revised in the rest of the century. Subsequently, this book develops the argument that a vital part of the cultural critique and aesthetic innovations of Spanish American modernismo involve an ecological challenge to deepening discourses of untamed development from Europe and the United States. In other chapters, many of the well-established titles of regional and indigenista literature are contrasted to counter-traditions within those genres that express aspects of environmental justice, “deep ecology,” the relational role of emotion in nature protectionism and conservationism, even the rights of non-human nature. Finally, the concluding chapters find that the articulation of ecological advocacy in recent fiction is both more explicit than what came before but also impacts the formal elements of literature in unique ways. Textual conventions such as language, imagery, focalization, narrative sequence, metafiction, satire, and parody represent innovations of form that proceed directly from the ethical advocacy of environmentalism. The book concludes with comments about what must follow as a result of the analysis including the revision of canon, the development of literary criticism from novel approaches such as critical animal studies, and the advent of a critical dialogue within the bounds of Spanish American environmentalist literature. A History of Ecology and Environmentalism in Spanish American Literature attempts to develop a sense of the way in which ecological ideas have developed over time in the literature, particularly the way in which many Spanish American texts anticipate several of the ecological discourses that have recently become so central to global culture, current environmentalist thought, and the future of humankind.

Book Twelve Points That Show Christianity Is True

Download or read book Twelve Points That Show Christianity Is True written by Norman L. Geisler and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-03-25 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me" (John 14:6). Many people have difficulty accepting this claim because it seems so narrow. After all, there are many claimants to truth in the current marketplace of ideas. Indeed, Christ does not call on us to make a leap of faith in the dark but to take a step of faith in the light-in the light of the evidence. So, it is necessary for a truth seeker to demand reasonable evidence before he or she makes a firm or final decision. We encourage everyone to look carefully and with an open mind at the premises that we use to conclude that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, life, and the only way to God the Father. We set our evidence forth in twelve chapters which build logically upon one another. Chapter one provides a firm foundation upon which chapter two and the subsequent chapters build upon. The conclusion of each chapter serves as a premise for the chapter(s) that succeeds it. We begin our quest for truth on the ground level with an examination of whether there is such a thing as truth and then move step by step, chapter by chapter, to see whether Christianity is true and the Gospel of Christ is the only way of salvation, as it claims to be.

Book The Mystery of God s Will

Download or read book The Mystery of God s Will written by Charles R. Swindoll and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2001-09-30 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I don't think I've ever met anyone who hasn't struggled with the desire to know God's will. The problem is, this struggle often involved a great deal of confusion and worry." ?Chuck Swindoll Many people have the idea that if they could just somehow find that single planned direction, they would be effortlessly swept through life. But life is not like that. Probably the most misunderstood factor of discovering God's will is the thought that, If I do this, the struggles will end, the questions are over, the answers come, and I live hapily ever after. But that's not reality. Does that mean that God's will must remain opaque to us?that we must muddle and grope blindly through life with no clue to what He wants for us? "Not at all," says Charles Swindoll. In this groundbreaking book, Swindoll invites us to join him on a spiritual quest. "I believe God's will for us in this life is not some black-and-white objective designed to take us to an appointed destination here on earth as much as it is about the journey itself . . . and what matters to Him in our lives." The Mystery of God's Will overflows with practical insights, humor, and unforgettable stories that will de-mystify, clarify, and put your mind at ease.
