Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first attempt at a synthetic grasp of the theoretical and general methodological problems in ergonomics. It is based on the debates of a great number of specialists from various fields and on the author's own studies and thoughts. The book has several aims: to familiarise readers with the range of problems; to facilitate understanding of the science; to direct the reader's thinking and action to solutions which are in agreement with the spirit of ergonomics; to make him more sensitive to signs of non-ergonomic actions in practice; to concentrate research in the particularly important areas; to encourage the application of ergonomics in a very broad, efficient way in practice; and also to assist the reader to find his own role in the system of these actions. The book is addressed to theoretical and practical ergonomists who are active in scientific institutions, institutes of hygienics and environmental care, institutes of industrial design, design offices, industrial plants, and other places that are interested in the development of ergonomics in theory and practice. It also will be useful to students of technical universities, of art colleges, and of economical, humanistic, and medical universities of which professional devotion will always be connected with ergonomics.

Book International Encyclopedia of Ergonomics and Human Factors Second Edition 3 Volume Set

Download or read book International Encyclopedia of Ergonomics and Human Factors Second Edition 3 Volume Set written by Waldemar Karwowski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-03-15 with total page 1154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The previous edition of the International Encyclopedia of Ergonomics and Human Factors made history as the first unified source of reliable information drawn from many realms of science and technology and created specifically with ergonomics professionals in mind. It was also a winner of the Best Reference Award 2002 from the Engineering Libraries Division, American Society of Engineering Education, USA, and the Outstanding Academic Title 2002 from Choice Magazine. Not content to rest on his laurels, human factors and ergonomics expert Professor Waldemar Karwowski has overhauled his standard-setting resource, incorporating coverage of tried and true methods, fundamental principles, and major paradigm shifts in philosophy, thought, and design. Demonstrating the truly interdisciplinary nature of this field, these changes make the second edition even more comprehensive, more informative, more, in a word, encyclopedic. Keeping the format popularized by the first edition, the new edition has been completely revised and updated. Divided into 13 sections and organized alphabetically within each section, the entries provide a clear and simple outline of the topics as well as precise and practical information. The book reviews applications, tools, and innovative concepts related to ergonomic research. Technical terms are defined (where possible) within entries as well as in a glossary. Students and professionals will find this format invaluable, whether they have ergonomics, engineering, computing, or psychology backgrounds. Experts and researchers will also find it an excellent source of information on areas beyond the range of their direct interests.

Book Psychology of System Design

Download or read book Psychology of System Design written by D. Meister and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about systems, including: systems in which humans control machines; systems in which humans interact with humans and the machine component is relatively unimportant; systems which are heavily computerized and those that are not; and governmental, industrial, military and social systems. The book deals with both traditional systems like farming, fishing and the military, and with systems just now tentatively emerging, like the expert and the interactive computer system. The emphasis is on the system concept and its implications for analysis, design and evaluation of these many different types of systems. The book attempts to make three major points: 1. System design, and particularly computer system design, must fit into and be directed by a comprehensive theory of system functioning. 2. Interactive computer design models itself upon our knowledge of how humans function. 3. Highly sophisticated interactive computer systems are presently mostly research vehicles, they are vastly different to general purpose, commercially available word processors and personal computers. The book represents an interdisciplinary approach, the author has used psychological, organizational, human factors, and engineering sources. The book is not a "how to do it" book but it is intended to stimulate thinking about the larger context in which systems, particularly computer systems of the future, should be designed and used.

"This book is an excellent resource for all academics and students in general. It provides updated theoretical foundations and applications that conceive a world where everything is connected and embedded in technology that allows us to capture, process and visualise actions and interactions, also at transdisciplinary levels." Professor Jaime Sampaio, Head of the Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health and Human Development (CIDESD), University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal "With the changing nature of work comes an ever-greater focus on leisure. Sport is a major dimension of this crucial form of human activity. Now comes Salmon and his colleagues who have assembled a panoply of world leaders who each provide their own individual perspectives on this intriguing world. Their emphasis on the human factors and ergonomics of these activities brings us new and exciting insights. A great read for the specialist and generalist alike." Professor Peter Hancock, Pegasus Professor, Provost Distinguished Research Professor and Trustee Chair, University of Central Florida, USA. "Finally, the complexity of sports and health is being considered in full. This book challenges contemporary thinking toward the prevention of injuries in sports, and provides tangible solutions to help our field into a new decade."
