Book The Connecticut State Constitution

Download or read book The Connecticut State Constitution written by Wesley W. Horton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Connecticut State Constitution is the only comprehensive analysis of the Connecticut Constitution and its individual provisions. In this fully revised second edition, Wesley W. Horton presents a comprehensive overview of Connecticut's constitutional historical development from 1635 to the present--spanning 375 years of constitutional history--and discusses cases of particular importance. Also included are a bibliographical essay, table of cases, tables relating to constitutional conventions and amendments, and a general index, offering significant sources for further study. The Connecticut Supreme Court has been a leader in developing state constitutional precedents independent of the precedents of the United States Supreme Court, such as in recent gay marriage and de facto school segregation cases. This book elaborates in detail on the rich Connecticut history concerning these and similar topics, often involving equal protection, due process or criminal procedure. The Oxford Commentaries on the State Constitutions of the United States is an important series that reflects a renewed international interest in constitutional history and provides expert insight into each of the 50 state constitutions. Each volume in this innovative series contains a historical overview of the state's constitutional development, a section-by-section analysis of its current constitution, and a comprehensive guide to further research. Under the expert editorship of Professor G. Alan Tarr, Director of the Center on State Constitutional Studies at Rutgers University, this series provides essential reference tools for understanding state constitutional law. Books in the series can be purchased individually or as part of a complete set, giving readers unmatched access to these important political documents.

Book The Connecticut Constitution

Download or read book The Connecticut Constitution written by Melbert Brinckerhoff Cary and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Connecticut Constitution At a time when much is said about the defects of our system of government, and the corrupt tendency so manifest in municipal, state, and national affairs is raising doubts as to the future of Republics, this work, which may be called a study in popular government, as affected by the exigencies of modern politics, is undertaken in the hope that it may tend to strengthen the faith of those who believe in government by the people, and that the people themselves can be depended upon to work for right and justice, whenever they fully understand and appreciate the situation. A condition of affairs has arisen which is causing many to declare that the people no longer rule in Connecticut; that the equality of man before the law is a myth; that we have drifted far away from the principles laid down by our forefathers in the constitution of 1639, and that the constitutional conditions existing in the State, tend more toward political corruption than in any State in the Union. It is folly or hypocrisy to say there is no ground for these statements. They are made by loyal and loving sons of the State, who make them with regret and only in the hope that by laying bare the truth a change may become possible. If by the following words a little impetus be given to the cause of good government, and toward restoring Connecticut to her former position of leadership in the march of constitutional progress, the writer will be satisfied.
