Book excerpt: Les méthodes classiques d'analyse d'images satellites sont inadaptées au volume actuel du flux de données. L'automatisation de l'interprétation de ces images devient donc cruciale pour l'analyse et la gestion des phénomènes observables par satellite et évoluant dans le temps et l'espace. Ce travail vise à automatiser la cartographie dynamique de l'occupation du sol à partir d'images satellites, par des mécanismes expressifs, facilement interprétables en prenant en compte les aspects structurels de l'information géographique. Il s'inscrit dans le cadre de l'analyse d'images basée objet. Ainsi, un paramétrage supervisé d'un algorithme de segmentation d'images est proposé. Dans un deuxième temps, une méthode de classification supervisée d'objets géographiques est présentée combinant apprentissage automatique par programmation logique inductive et classement par l'approche multi-class rule set intersection. Ces approches sont appliquées à la cartographie de la bande côtière Guyanaise. Les résultats démontrent la faisabilité du paramétrage de la segmentation, mais également sa variabilité en fonction des classes de la carte de référence et des données d'entrée. Les résultats de la classification supervisée montrent qu'il est possible d'induire des règles de classification expressives, véhiculant des informations cohérentes et structurelles dans un contexte applicatif donnée et conduisant à des valeurs satisfaisantes de précision et de KAPPA (respectivement 84,6% et 0,7). Ce travail de thèse contribue ainsi à l'automatisation de la cartographie dynamique à partir d'images de télédétection et propose des perspectives originales et prometteuses.

Book excerpt: The properties of road networks vary considerably from one geographical environment to another. The networks pertaining in a satellite image can therefore be used to classify and retrieve such environments. In this work, we propose to classy geographical environment using geometrical and topological features computed from the road networks. The limitations of road extraction methods in dense urban areas was circumvented by segmenting the urban regions and computing a second set of geometrical and topological features from them.The small images forming our database were extracted from images of the SPOT5 satellite with 5m resolution (each image of size 512x512 pixels). The set of geometrical and topological features computed from the road networks and urban regions are used to classify the pre-defined geographical classes. In order to avoid the burden of feature dimensionality and reduce the classification performance, feature selection was performed using Fisher Linear Discriminant (FLD) analysis and an one-vs-rest linear Support Vector Machine (SVM classification was performed on the selected feature set. The impact of spatial resolution and size of images on the feature set have been explored. Tests were performed on a database with images of 10m resolution and on a database with 5m resolution images each of size 256x256 pixels. This approach allows also to classify large SPOT5 images with patches of size 512x512. In this case, a one-vs-rest Gaussian kernel svrv classification method was used to classify this large image. The classification labels the image patch es with the one having the maximum geographical coverage of the area associated in the large image.

Book excerpt: Les nouveaux capteurs satellitaires permettent l'acquisition d'images d'un très haut niveau de détail à des cadences élevées, produisant ainsi une importante masse de données. Le traitement manuel de ces données étant devenu impossible, de nouveaux outils sont nécessaires afin de les traiter automatiquement. Des algorithmes de segmentation efficaces sont nécessaires pour extraire des objets d'intérêt de ces images. Cependant les segments produits ne correspondent pas aux objets d'intérêt, rendant difficile l'utilisation de connaissances expertes.Dans le cadre de cette thèse nous proposons de changer le niveau d'interprétation d'une image afin de voir les objets d'intérêt pour l'expert comme des objets composés par des segments. Pour cela, nous avons mis en place un processus d'apprentissage multi-niveaux dans le but d'apprendre ces règles de composition. Une règle de composition ainsi apprise peut ensuite être utilisée pour extraire les objets d'intérêt correspondant. Dans un second temps, nous proposons d'utiliser l'algorithme d'apprentissage de règles de composition comme première étape d'une approche montante-descendante. Cette chaîne de traitement a pour objectif d'améliorer la classification à partir des informations contextuelles et de connaissances expertes. Des objets composés de plus haut niveau sémantique sont extraits à partir de règles apprises ou fournies par l'expert, et cette nouvelle information est utilisée pour mettre à jour la classification des objets aux niveaux inférieurs. L'ensemble de ces travaux ont été testés et validés sur des images Pléiades représentant la ville de Strasbourg. Les résultats obtenus montrent l'efficacité de l'apprentissage de règles de composition pour faire le lien entre connaissance experte et segmentation, ainsi que l'intérêt de l'utilisation d'informations contextuelles dans l'analyse d'images de télédétection à très haute résolution spatiale.

Des problèmes aussi complexes que la reconnaissance automatique de la parole ou l'interprétation automatique d'images, ne peuvent pas être résolus par une approche procédurale. Ils nécessitent un système plus complexe, qui prend en compte la connaissance a priori. L'architecture du système d'analyse de scènes, présente dans cette thèse, a été appliquée à l'analyse d'aéroports, avec comme objets d'intérêt les pistes d'atterrissage, les hangars pour avion, ainsi que les routes qui relient les premières aux seconds. Dans cette thèse, nous décrivons tout d'abord la connaissance qui doit être intégrée dans un système d'analyse de scènes afin de régulariser le problème mal-posé de la vision par ordinateur. Cette analyse de la connaissance a priori est suivie par une description du système à tableau noir, qui est utilisé pour représenter et intégrer les différents types de connaissance, la façon dont la fusion de données multiniveaux est utilisée pour réduire la probabilité de fausse alarme, ne se déduit pas directement de l'architecture du système. C'est pourquoi nous analysons les trois niveaux de fusion séparément plus en détail.
