Book excerpt: For years, far too many believers have argued, and even fought over whether the spiritual gifts were only for the first century, or whether they are still available to us today. However, in doing this they have been missing the main message of this passage: there is A MORE EXCELLENT WAY available to believers whether they lived in the first century, or in any other century from that time until the end of time! Having a right relationship with God, through the Lord Jesus Christ, you have the potential to live your life according to the good and perfect will of God. Lest I should be misunderstood from the beginning, let me say that I approve of the Scriptural usage of every spiritual gift that God has given to the church. However, I must hasten to say that I also believe that the Apostle Paul introduces us to A MORE EXCELLENT WAY in I Corinthians 12:31. We'll be talking about that concept throughout our study.

Book Strategies in Church Discipline from 1 Corinthians

Download or read book Strategies in Church Discipline from 1 Corinthians written by Timothy KH Chong and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to recover the New Testament ideal of church discipline and to construct a holistic model for the Church in Asia. The Church has wrestled with the issue of discipline ever since her inception. Many of Pauls letters addressed the problems that had arisen in the communities that he had established. The thrust of church discipline in the New Testament was the formation of Christian character through the Word of God worked out in the process of discipleship through teaching, edification, admonition as well as banishing serious sin from the community. The ideal of church discipline in the New Testament is both Preventive Discipline and Punitive Discipline. As the Church became more institutionalized, there was a paradigm shift in the process of discipline. The New Testament ideal of discipline as a character formation was shifted to regulatory ordinances. This led to the development of a strict and regimented Christianity. Since then, church discipline had taken on a penitential and punitive direction. The book seeks to study Pauls management of the disciplinary problems in 1 Corinthians and then to construct a holistic model of church discipline for an Asian context.

Book 7 Myths about Singleness

Download or read book 7 Myths about Singleness written by Sam Allberry and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If marriage shows us the shape of the gospel, singleness shows us its sufficiency. Much of what we commonly assume about singleness—that it is primarily about the absence of good things like intimacy, family, or meaningful ministry—is either flat-out untrue or, at the very least, shouldn’t be true. To be single, we often think, is to be alone and spiritually hindered. But the Bible paints a very different picture of singleness: it is a positive gift and blessing from God. This book seeks to help Christians—married and unmarried alike—value singleness as a gift from God so that we can all encourage singles to take hold of the unique opportunities their singleness affords and see their role in the flourishing of the church as a whole.

Book The Resurrection of the Dead

Download or read book The Resurrection of the Dead written by Karl Barth and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2003-10-07 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Barth saw Chapter 15 as the center of 1st Corinthians, arguing that a misunderstanding of the resurrection underlies all the problems in Corinth. In this volume, he develops his view of biblical eschatology, asserting that Chapter 15 is key to understanding the testimony of the New Testament. Barth understood the last things not as an end to history but as an end-history with which any period is faced. "He only speaks of last things who would speak of the end of all things, of their end understood plainly and fundamentally, of a reality so radically superior to all things that the existence of all things would be utterly and entirely based upon it alone, and thus, in speaking of their end, he would in truth be speaking of nothing else than their beginning." Book Commentary on 1 and 2 Corinthians

Download or read book Commentary on 1 and 2 Corinthians written by John Calvin and published by Ravenio Books. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For hundreds of years John Calvin's Commentaries have been admired and relied upon for their deep insights into Scripture. Charles Spurgeon told his students, "It would not be possible for me too earnestly to press upon you the importance of reading the expositions of that prince among men, John Calvin! Of all commentators I believe John Calvin to be the most candid. He was no trimmer and pruner of texts. He gave their meaning as far as he knew it. His honest intention was to translate the Hebrew and the Greek originals as accurately as he possibly could, and then to give the meaning which would naturally be conveyed by such Greek and Hebrew words: he laboured, in fact, to declare, not his own mind upon the Spirit's words, but the mind of the Spirit as couched in those words." And even Arminius himself admitted, "Next to the perusal of the Scriptures, which I earnestly inculcate, I exhort my pupils to peruse Calvin's commentaries, for I affirm that he excels beyond comparison in the interpretation of Scripture, and that his commentaries ought to be more highly valued than all that is handed down to us by the Library of the Fathers; so that I acknowledge him to have possessed above most others, or rather above all other men, what may be called an eminent gift of prophecy."
