Book Chickens in the Road

Download or read book Chickens in the Road written by Suzanne McMinn and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suzanne McMinn, a former romance writer and founder of the popular blog chickensintheroad.com, shares the story of her search to lead a life of ordinary splendor in Chickens in the Road, her inspiring and funny memoir. Craving a life that would connect her to the earth and her family roots, McMinn packed up her three kids, left her husband and her sterile suburban existence behind, and moved to rural West Virginia. Amid the rough landscape and beauty of this rural mountain country, she pursues a natural lifestyle filled with chickens, goats, sheep—and no pizza delivery. With her new life comes an unexpected new love—"52," a man as beguiling and enigmatic as his nickname—a turbulent romance that reminds her that peace and fulfillment can be found in the wake of heartbreak. Coping with formidable challenges, including raising a trio of teenagers, milking stubborn cows, being snowed in with no heat, and making her own butter, McMinn realizes that she’s living a forty-something’s coming-of-age story. As she dares to become self-reliant and embrace her independence, she reminds us that life is a bold adventure—if we’re willing to live it. Chickens in the Road includes more than 20 recipes, craft projects, and McMinn’s photography, and features a special two-color design.

Book Recalculating

Download or read book Recalculating written by Lindsey Pollak and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading workplace expert provides an inspirational, practical, and forward-looking career playbook for recent grads, career changers, and transitioning professionals looking to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving workplace. Covid-19 has heightened career uncertainty in a work landscape dominated by turbulence and change, and it is directly impacting how people are entering—or re-entering—the workplace. But as Lindsey Pollak makes clear, the pandemic merely accelerated career and hiring trends that have been building. Changes that were once slowly spreading have been rapidly implemented across all industries. This means that the old job hunting and career success rules no longer apply. Job seekers of all generations and skill sets must learn how to thrive in this “new normal,” which will include a hybrid of remote and in-person experiences, increased reliance on virtual communication and automation, constant disruption, and renewed employer emphasis on workers’ health and well-being. While this new world is complicated and constantly evolving, you won’t have to navigate it alone. For twenty years, Pollak has been following the trends and successfully advising young professionals and organizations on workplace success. Now, she guides you through the changes currently happening—and those to come. Combining insights from both experts and professionals across generations, she provides encouraging, strategic, and actionable advice on making lifelong decisions about education; building a resilient personal brand; using virtual communication to remotely interview, network, and work; skilling and reskilling for the future; and maintaining self-care and mental health. Like your personal GPS, Pollak equips you to handle workplace obstacles, helping you see them as challenges to navigate rather than impossible roadblocks. There is no perfect path to a dream career, but with Recalculating you’ll be prepared with the necessary skills and tools to succeed.

Book Welcome to the Grief Club

Download or read book Welcome to the Grief Club written by Janine Kwoh and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the Grief Club - a place where one human who experienced a terrible loss, Janine Kwoh, is at the door to welcome other humans who are grieving. It is not an instruction manual, or a step-by-step playbook, or a memoir. It is, rather, a fresh, empathetic approach to all of the surprising, confusing, brutal, funny, and downright bizarre parts of grief. Combining her own experiences with grief - the author's partner died when both were in their late 20s - with what she learned from others in her 'grief club', Kwoh uses brief writings and observations, hand-drawn illustrations, and diagrams to explore all the different ways grief happens. Plus, wisdom and understanding in every line - there is no right or wrong way to grieve - and permission to grieve in whichever ways you need, for however long you need to. What to do when the world is your grief trigger. Signs you have grief brain. And gentle assurances: Grief isn't linear, but it does change and will soften over time. It is a book to put into the hands of anyone who is grieving, because from its very first page, that person will know they are no longer alone.

Book Touching Stories of My Life in Journey to Christian Holiness and Hands on Patient Care in a Weeping Healthcare

Download or read book Touching Stories of My Life in Journey to Christian Holiness and Hands on Patient Care in a Weeping Healthcare written by Ramsis Ghaly MD FACS and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-08-31 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the twelfth book in the series Christianity and the Human Brain. It integrates neuroscience and the Bible, the holy book of Jesus. My love for Jesus Christ abides with my lifetime passion for neurosurgery and medicine. I have a continual obsession for spiritual connectivity between the Holy Spirit and the human brain, which indeed separates mankind from all other living creation. It has been my belief that the human brain does not limit itself to the physical skull. Rather, it extends in a nonphysical form to the outside spiritual world, even while living on earth. In other words, a big part of the human brain is actually outside the skull and the body. After performing brain surgeries for three decades, I have realized that my theory is so true. The majestic human brain can’t be just the 1,500 grams of jelled matter inside the skull. The human journey, therefore, is transforming the human brain into the brain of a man of God and transforming the hand of man into the hand of the man of God. The spiritual human brain never dies. Only the flesh does. This is the center of my calling and my unrelenting meditations while roaming in the heartfelt spirit, lacking the physical proof that science demands from me. My life is dedicated to Jesus, to my patients, and to my residents. As a physician, I have reached the top within America both as a professor of neurological surgery and anesthesiology and as a well-published author of several famous medical journals. As an academic teacher, I trained for more than thirty-four years and have watched thousands of trainees graduate. But all this is nothing as I strive to achieve Christian holiness and fullness. In a weeping healthcare with many patients’ falling victims, I included actual miracles, testimonials, and sincere quotes from patients as a testament to the Almighty and the dire need for faith and good-hearted medicine. This book is full of many vibrant stories that I love to share, which is timely since I am guessing that my generation will soon be viewed obsolete by future generations. What will remain are the books I authored. This book is a text of wealth, covering broad and diverse topics in my life journey within 134 chapters and organized over fourteen sections. So many chapters are written about my special love for Jesus Christ and his children. In poems, deep reflections, and spiritual release of mind, I wrote extensively. In fact, I shut my senses and impersonated the human brains of the men of God and the children of the Most High in their prominent biblical stories. A special section is dedicated to mothers, newborns, and little children. While my soul is grieving, a section is centered on the ongoing Christian persecution, especially the genocide of Christians in my country, Egypt, which is also the ancient region of the Middle East and the oldest historic continent of Africa. Furthermore, I wrote some of my dreams and thoughts that I couldn’t otherwise convey for one reason or another, such as neuroscience in aerospace and some of the timely and touching subjects such as drug overdose, human trafficking, and health-care crises. Few chapters are included about my personal views about introducing spirituality into the recent turmoil in politics. Friends, human life starts with love and ends with eternal love for our savior. It is never enough to share our love and write about love and talk about actual love stories of heavenly roses, joy, Christmas, healing touch, miracles, and our calling for his purpose. This is what my twelfth book is all about.

Book Democracy s Education

    Book Details:
  • Author : Harry C. Boyte
  • Publisher : Vanderbilt University Press
  • Release : 2021-04-30
  • ISBN : 0826503632
  • Pages : 424 pages

Download or read book Democracy s Education written by Harry C. Boyte and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today Americans feel powerless in the face of problems on every front. Such feelings are acute in higher education, where educators are experiencing an avalanche of changes: cost cutting, new technologies, and demands that higher education be narrowly geared to the needs of today's workplace. College graduates face mounting debt and uncertain job prospects, and worry about a coarsening of the mass culture and the erosion of authentic human relationships. Higher education is increasingly seen, and often portrays itself, as a ticket to individual success--a private good, not a public one. Democracy's Education grows from the American Commonwealth Partnership, a year-long project to revitalize the democratic narrative of higher education that began with an invitation to Harry Boyte from the White House to put together a coalition aimed at strengthening higher education as a public good. The project was launched at the beginning of 2012 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act, which created land grant colleges. Beginning with an essay by Harry C. Boyte, "Reinventing Citizenship as Public Work," which challenges educators and their partners to claim their power to shape the story of higher education and the civic careers of students, the collection brings world-famous scholars, senior government officials, and university presidents together with faculty, students, staff, community organizers, and intellectuals from across the United States and South Africa and Japan. Contributors describe many constructive responses to change already taking place in different kinds of institutions, and present cutting-edge ideas like "civic science," "civic studies," "citizen professionalism," and "citizen alumni." Authors detail practical approaches to making change, from new faculty and student roles to changes in curriculum and student life and strategies for everyday citizen empowerment. Overall, the work develops a democratic story of education urgently needed to address today's challenges, from climate change to growing inequality.
