Book CONGAS IN CONTEMPORARY MUSIC

Download or read book CONGAS IN CONTEMPORARY MUSIC written by Laurent Lamy and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pop music does not define a fixed musical style. It is a musical genre with many influences. It can be inspired by all existing musical styles: African music, Brazilian music but why not Indian music etc. Without being a specialist in all these musics, the percussionist playing a repertoire of Pop music must have notions of Jazz, R&B, Funk, Rock and World Music as broad as possible. He may need to imitate this music. This constitutes a know-how in its own right. The conga player must have many qualities in addition to adaptability. He must be versatile and multi-percussionist with the practice of as many instruments as possible. It must be open to world music because today, music mixes and merges more and more. In conclusion, this book offers a number of patterns in various styles noted over time. It is up to you to adapt them to your taste, your needs and your style.

Book excerpt: Congas Full Circle satisfies a missing link in percussion literature. This is the first book for congas and hand drumming that breaks down the patterns of various styles (almost 50!) into small sections that can be digested easier. Although there are many high quality books for hand drummers, the books merely notate the patterns without teaching the reader how to play the rhythms. Congas Full Circle will fill that void. The book includes many exercises to teach the reader how to play rudiments on congas while improving your quality of sound. There are also examples of styles for djembe, batá, bongos, and cajones with music spanning from early African patterns to modern day Salsa and Timba. With almost 400 pages, this is the most comprehensive book on congas available.

Book Brazilian Conga atabaque

Download or read book Brazilian Conga atabaque written by Gilson de Assis and published by Alfred Music. This book was released on 2006 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brazilian Conga opens the door to familiar and to new worlds for the fans of the Brazilian atabaque with its rhythms adapted to the conga. You will meet some "old acquaintances" among the typical basic grooves of Brazilian music for one conga or timbau (Samba de Caboclo, Barravento, Ijex, or Congo) but also relatively unknown rhythms for two or three congas---Brazilian rhythms originally not intended to be performed on the atabaque and even modern pop rhythms. Additionally, the method provides coordination exercises and a number of pieces for small percussion ensembles. This book by Gilson de Assis with its accompanying CD, which offers recordings of all the individual grooves, will surely be of great help to both the novice and the experienced percussionist. It will not only lead you to a better understanding of the playing techniques and structures but also help you capture the feeling and prepare the groundwork for a correct interpretation of the Brazilian atabaque rhythms.

Book Conga Oriental

  • Publisher : Okamehachimoku Media
  • Release : 2020-02-01

  • Pages : pages

Download or read book Conga Oriental written by Richard Opheim and published by Okamehachimoku Media. This book was released on 2020-02-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conga oriental is the version of the conga that has existed in Santiago de Cuba since the second decade of the 20th century and afterwards in Guantánamo. The instruments of the conga oriental, treated in Part I, can be divided into four classes: aerophones (cornetas chinas), idiophones (campanas), bimembranophones (bombos or tamboras), and unimembranophones (bocues). Part II introduces ensemble playing and covers such diverse topics as entradas, efectos, marching formation, tempo, and ensemble tuning. The conga ensemble is known principally for playing the eponymous conga toque, but other toques, namely toque masón and concierto, are also described. Finally, there is a chapter on how the conga oriental is played by various professional folkore groups. Part III is a short essay on the conga song. The two principal points of analysis are song structure with emphasis on the AABB structure unique to the conga and a theoretical grouping of conga songs according to provenance. Short histories, ensemble scores, and diagrams of the marching formation of the ten principal congas of Guantánamo and Santiago are reproduced in Part IV. Part V concerns itself with such wider topics as the congueros and the milieu in which they perform, including most importantly the Carnavales of eastern Cuba. The last chapter gives a brief resumé of the general history of the conga oriental.
