Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CONFUCIUS TO CONFUSING I do not want to say categorically that we live in a time of extreme confusion, but a number of facts seem to corroborate the contrary. In a globalize world, wealth and welfare have not been equitably and evenly distributed among nations. The rulers do not always govern thinking about the well-being of their peoples. Corruption, that miserable evil has not been extirpated and champions for its respect in all spheres of human activity, especially in those of the public. The productive forces have reached a considerable degree of development capable of guaranteeing the basic material goods of the entire world population and yet in many countries the population is hungry, there are material needs of all kinds and many children die of malnutrition and curable diseases. Education and access to universal culture are not within everyone's reach. Nor does medical care reach all people. There is talk of ethics and morals and immoral positions are often adopted. The deception, the lie and the lack of honesty are shown daily in society. Humility, decorum, respects and human consideration is not what abounds. None of this is globalize and it is what we need to share and get to the most remote places on the planet. And it is not that doctrines or ethical principles have not been elaborated to address all the evils we have mentioned, on the contrary, the human spirit studied these problems from the earliest civilizations and in a universal sense. Proof of this is what we bring to you about one of the most prolific and ancient thinkers in history: The Chinese philosopher and philosopher Confucius, who more than 25 centuries ago developed a moral, educational and governance doctrine in order to achieve well-being Of all human beings regardless of their social, economic or caste status. This is why in a modest way we approach transcendental aspects of their doctrines that can guide us all in this age of real or apparent confusion. In short, more than 450 aphorisms of the celebrated Chinese philosopher and wise man are related to government, education, ethics, family, and justice, corruption, among others, all or almost all with full validity.

Book excerpt: The so-called Confucian revival which came to prominence at the end of the twentieth-century, and which is manifested in the philosophical stream of Modern Confucianism, is one of the most significant elements within new Asian modernisation ideologies. By providing new insights into the culturally conditioned structure of Asian societies, this book contributes to the improvement of political, economic and cultural relations between "Western" and East Asian countries. Most classical Western modernisation theories have assumed that Confucianism would have to be abandoned if East Asia wanted to dev.

Book Chasing the Chinese Dream

  • Author : William N. Brown
  • Publisher : Springer Nature

Download or read book Chasing the Chinese Dream written by William N. Brown and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book explores the historical, cultural and philosophical contexts that have made anti-poverty the core of Chinese society since Liberation in 1949, and why poverty alleviation measures evolved from the simplistic aid of the 1950s to Xi Jinping’s precision poverty alleviation and its goal of eliminating absolute poverty by 2020. The book also addresses the implications of China’s experience for other developing nations tackling not only poverty but such issues as pandemics, rampant urbanization and desertification exacerbated by global warming. The first of three parts draws upon interviews of rural and urban Chinese from diverse backgrounds and local and national leaders. These interviews, conducted in even the remotest areas of the country, offer candid insights into the challenges that have forced China to continually evolve its programs to resolve even the most intractable cases of poverty. The second part explores the historic, cultural and philosophical roots of old China’s meritocratic government and how its ancient Chinese ethics have led to modern Chinese socialism’s stance that “poverty amidst plenty is immoral”. Dr. Huang Chengwei, one of China’s foremost anti-poverty experts, explains the challenges faced at each stage as China’s anti-poverty measures evolved over 70 years to emphasize “enablement” over “aid” and to foster bottom-up initiative and entrepreneurialism, culminating in Xi Jinping’s precision poverty alleviation. The book also addresses why national economic development alone cannot reduce poverty; poverty alleviation programs must be people-centered, with measurable and accountable practices that reach even to household level, which China has done with its “First Secretary” program. The third part explores the potential for adopting China’s practices in other nations, including the potential for replicating China’s successes in developing countries through such measures as the Belt and Road Initiative. This book also addresses prevalent misperceptions about China’s growing global presence and why other developing nations must address historic, systemic causes of poverty and inequity before they can undertake sustainable poverty alleviation measures of their own.

Book Yongming Yanshou s Conception of Chan in the Zongjing Lu

His main work, the one-hundred fascicle Zongjing lu (Records of the Source-Mirror), is regularly cited but has been subjected to little systematic investigation. Through a vivid reconstruction of the environment in which Yanshou lived and wrote, Welter aims to prove that Yanshou's conception of Chan was a vital contribution to the determination of Chan's future direction. Welter also draws evidence from the Zongjing lu's record of Chan master's teaching fragments, an important but frequently overlooked early source. This book provides thorough documentation and analysis of the Chan master's teaching fragments in the Zongjing lu.

Download or read book Codex Espangliensis written by Guillermo Gomez-Pena and published by City Lights Books. This book was released on 2000-06 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by the pre-Hispanic codices that escaped immolation during colonial invasions, this artists' book opens out in accordion folds expanding to a length of over 21 feet. Rice has created a series of beautiful and jarring montages in which the mixture of languages, slang, poetry, and prose of Gomez-Pena's performance texts are woven through and around Chagoya's collages filled with pre-Hispanic drawings, colonial-era representations of New World natives, and comic book superheroes. Irreverent to the last, Gomez-Pena and Chagoya employ iconic figures and persistent stereotypes to overturn the fantasies of nationalism, ethnocentrism, and historical amnesia that cloud international relations. Rice's masterful typographic compositions orchestrate the text's many voices and views, offering a history of the Americas which must be read forward and backward, in fragments and in recurring episodes - in short, as history itself tends to unfold. About the Authors Guillermo Gomez-Pena was born in Mexico City in 1955 and came to the U.S. in 1978. His work, which includes performance art, poetry, journalism, criticism, and cultural theory, explores cross-cultural issues and North/South relations. He is the recipient of an American Book Award for The New World Border (City Lights) and a MacArthur Foundation Genius Award, among many other honors. Enrique Chagoya is a Mexican-born painter and printmaker who has been living and working in the U.S. since 1977. The recipient of two NEA Fellowships, his most recent show of paintings was at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. He currently teaches at Stanford University. Felicia Rice is a book artist, typographer, printer, and publisher whose work has earned her many honors. She lectures and exhibits internationally, and her books are represented in the collections of various museums and libraries.
