Book Being Conformed to Christ in Community

Download or read book Being Conformed to Christ in Community written by James G. Samra and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work explores Paul's conception of maturity, paying special attention to the maturation process and the role of the local church in facilitating this process. Although central to Paul's theology, maturity is often overlooked in Pauline studies. An exegetical-theological study of the seven generally accepted epistles, this work makes heuristic use of three studies for the purpose of illuminating Paul's thoughts regarding maturity: a survey of modern psychology, and analyses of the communities of Qumran and of the Therapeutae. Samra argues that Paul understood his apostolic commission to involve delivering mature believers on the day of Christ. Samra suggests that the central motif of Pauline maturity is conformity of believers to the image of Christ and that believers' attitudes and actions become aligned with those exhibited by Christ, who provides the defining standard of maturity for Paul. For Paul there are five means used by the Spirit to conform believers to the image of Christ, which Samra presents and analyzes as components of the maturation process, namely: identifying with Christ, enduring suffering, experiencing the presence of God, receiving and living out wisdom from God, and imitating a godly example. Samra concludes by arguing that Paul expected the local church to facilitate maturation so that believers' participation in a local assembly would result in their being conformed to Christ. The church does this by facilitating the five components of the maturation process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fr. Carola's book comes at a particularly opportune time during the Year for Priests, which the Holy Father has inaugurated in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the dies natalis of St. John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests worldwide, so as to deepen the commitment of all priests to interior renewal for the sake of a stronger and more incisive witness to the Gospel in today's world. From the Foreword by Archbishop Mauro Piacenza Secretary of the Congregation of the Clergy .In Conformed to Christ Crucified: Meditations on Priestly Life and Ministry, Father Joseph Carola has edited a number of his homilies in which he reflects upon on the irreplaceable ministry of the ordained priesthood in the Church. Published during the Year for Priests, proclaimed by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, Father Carola's homilies draw upon the Sacred Scriptures, the Fathers of the Church and other saints to provide a treasured font of sound and deep reflection on the truth declared by St. John Mary Vianney: The priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus. Father Carola's homilies will lead priests and seminarians to identify themselves more completely with Christ crucified and so make their hearts one with the glorious pierced Heart of Jesus. For all of the faithful, study of these homilies will mean growth in knowledge of the great gift of the ordained priesthood and love of priests. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Father Carola for his homilies and for their excellent presentation in his book... Book excerpt: Is gospel Christianity dead? Pundits are writing the obituary of historic, orthodox Christianity, but pastor and author J. D. Greear (Gospel, Stop Asking Jesus into Your Heart) believes the postmortems are premature. Jesus promised to build his church. He said that the gates of hell would not prevail against it. The church is not going away. Along with this promise, Jesus gave clear instructions for how the church would prevail. He promised to build it on the rock of the gospel. The most pressing need for Christianity today is not a new strategy. It is not an updated message. It is a return to keeping the gospel above all.

Book excerpt: Andrew Murray (1828 - 1917) was a South African writer, teacher and Christian pastor. Murray considered missions to be the chief end of the church. Murray pastored churches in Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town and Wellington, all in South Africa. He was a champion of the South African Revival of 1860.In 1889, he was one of the founders of the South African General Mission (SAGM), along with Martha Osborn and Spencer Walton. After Martha Osborn married George Howe, they formed the South East Africa General Mission (SEAGM) in 1891. SAGM and SEAGM merged in 1894. Because its ministry had spread into other African countries, the mission's name was changed to Africa Evangelical Fellowship (AEF) in 1965. AEF joined with Serving in Mission (SIM) in 1998 and continues to this day. Through his writings, Murray was also a key Inner Life or Higher Life or Keswick leader, and his theology of faith healing and belief in the continuation of the apostolic gifts made him a significant forerunner of the Pentecostal movement. In 1894, Murray was visited by John McNeill and Rev. J Gelson Gregson, the ex-British Army Chaplain and Keswick convention speaker. Murray died on 18 January 1917, four months before his 89th birthday. He was so influenced by Johann Christoph Blumhardt's Möttlingen revival that he included a portion of Friedrich Zündel's biography at the end of With Christ in the School of Prayer.

Book The Mind That Has Been Conformed to the Mind of Christ

This book was released on 2014-11-30 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This excellent series on Conforming to the Mind of Christ continues even deeper. Remember this didn't just happen overnight, even BISHOP GREGORY LEACHMAN'S worldly battles helped make this possible. The Lord Jesus just showed GREGORY a better and different approach on how to do it and made him more into Christ's image through the baptism of the Holy Spirit flowing through him and forever changing him and taking out everything that's not like God. Some of it is still left but it's powerless because Jesus is Lord over GREGORY'S entire life and He wrote this just for you! THE MIND THAT HAS BEEN CONFORMED TO THE MIND OF CHRIST is a strong word to learn right, change is a struggle, it's more of what and how you go through daily life and trying with all you know to stay focused on doing what's right, after doing wrong most of your life, getting to the Jesus kind of change, not of works lest any man should boast in himself.

  • Pages : 205 pages

Download or read book Philippians written by John Paul Heil and published by Society of Biblical Lit. This book was released on 2010 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume employs a text-centered, literary-rhetorical, and audience-oriented method to demonstrate how the implied audience of Philippians are persuaded and exhorted by the dynamic progression of the letter's chiastic structures to rejoice along with Paul and other believers in being conformed, with all of the broad implications of such conformity, to Christ. This reading assumes that Philippians is a single, unified letter written to be read and heard in a public setting as an oral performance substituting for the personal presence of the imprisoned Paul, and it proposes new chiastic structures for the entire letter as a key to understanding it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: trans•for•ma•tion tran(t)s-f?r-’ma-sh?n NOUN A marked change, of something or someone, usually for the better. Nature provides an amazing example of a transformation. A butterfly’s life begins as an egg that becomes a larva. At its appointed time, a caterpillar breaks out and then begins to eat, and eat, and eat. Then the caterpillar spins a thread into a shell-like covering around its body. Inside this cocoon, the caterpillar changes into a pupa. The pupa grows into a beautiful, colorful, and graceful butterfly. People also go through transformations. From conception until death, we go through a series of changes. Once conceived, the life cycle stages begin and progress to produce a newborn baby. The baby grows and becomes a toddler, which then matures into an adolescent. Adulthood follows, and the process continues through mid-life through to old age. This experience is a natural transformation. There is also a spiritual transformation that we all should go through. This alteration involves changing on the inside and revealing it on the outside. You go through a conversion from living a worldly lifestyle to living a Christian life that is pleasing to God. You should desire and seek to achieve this spiritual makeover with all of your might. Many will confess to being a Christian, but are they really like Christ? You can’t just name it and claim it. You have to live it. To be a Christian means to be Christ-like. you must learn to live like Christ, to love like Christ, forgive like Christ, even bless like Christ, etc. Some may say that living a Christian life is easier said than done. Why is that so? I think mainly because we have inherently conformed to this world, and this world promotes pretty much everything except Christian living. Sadly, the vast majority of those who call themselves Christians in these last days are as far from Christ as they can possibly be. They think they are living for Jesus with all of their wickedness and false doctrines and evil lifestyles. I believe that people want this transformation but are not too willing to take the necessary steps to make this process change. This change isn’t always easy, but it is absolutely obtainable. You may ask, “What is required to live a Christian life?” The answer is in the Holy Bible. Transformation—Living a Christian Life can be summed up with one Bible verse: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rom. 12:2). Many have conformed to the ways of the world. They need a renewing of their mind. They need to get back in alignment with the will of God. This book’s purpose is to reunite you with God, His Word, and His will for your life, which is good and acceptable and perfect.
