The FBI must have the tools necessary to help keep us safe from terrorism, but that should not come at the expense of our constitutional rights. During Mr. Comey's tenure as Deputy Attorney General, he approved a legal memo that authorized the use of waterboarding and other techniques long recognized as torture under both domestic and international law. If we learned nothing else from those years following the September 11th attacks, it is that who leads our Nation-at all levels of Government-matters. We need strong, ethical leaders who will steadfastly adhere to the rule of law.

Comey has said that the President wanted him to pledge personal loyalty to the President Trump and not to the American people and the U.S. Constitution. In addition, Comey alleges that Donald Trump tried to get him to drop the investigation of Micheal Flynn, Trump's first National Security Advisor, who allegedly lied about phone conversations with a Russian Ambassador about sanctions. Comey is hated by Republicans for being the catalyst for the appointment of the special counsel Robert Mueller, another former FBI director, in the Russian investigation. He is hated by Democrats for his public reopening and closing into the Hilary Clinton e-mail investigation within 11 days of the 2016 presidential election. Democrats believe that act handed the election to Donald J. Trump, who lost the popular vote by about 3 million votes despite winning the electoral college.
