Download or read book Configured by Consumption written by Booi H. Kam and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2022-05-28 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the paradigm shift in consumption habits during the COVID-19 pandemic accelerating the digital transformation of supply-chain operations, Configured by Consumption offers a timely reflection on the technological evolution of production-consumption cycles since the genesis of industrialization. Digging deeper into the theoretical underpinnings of Industry 4.0, chapters explore consumerism, consumption on demand, consumer connectivity, omnichannel retailing, and social commerce to develop a general theory of supply chain operations. The book examines how logistics and supply chain operations have evolved and merged as a discipline and practice through the combined lens of accommodating technological advancement and supporting consumption. Looking to the future of global industry, it concludes by anticipating further technological advancement, and contemplates the vision, possibilities, realities, and challenges of where logistics and supply chain operations will go beyond automation, robotics, and AI to meet evolving consumer demand. Giving meaning to the coalescence of the physical supply chain and digital commerce, it will prove invaluable to students and scholars of economics and organizational and technology studies. It also offers significant insights for policy makers working at all levels of supply chain and operations management, revealing digital transformations at both the firm (micro) and industry and country (macro) levels.

Download or read book Optimal operation configuration and sizing of energy storage and energy conversion technologies for residential house energy systems written by Tobias Alexander Beck and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years a rapid growth in the interest in self-consumption of electricity generated by distributed electricity generation technologies such as rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems has been observed in the residential sector. Due to this development, future residential house energy systems will face an increased complexity with respect to operation, system configuration and sizing of generation and storage technologies. In this thesis, a mixed integer linear programming model for the integrated operation, configuration and sizing of house energy systems is developed and discussed with respect to its applicability to the specifics of self-consumption in residential dwellings. The conducted scenario analysis shows, that over a wide range of assumptions, PV is a robust measure to decrease the total cost of ownership for heat pump and gas boiler based house energy systems. The existence of a feed-in-tariff and the electricity price structure have a much larger influence on the results than the energy price development. A feed-in-tariff generally incentivizes larger PV systems with higher levels of self-sufficiency, whereas small demand-driven PV systems with high levels of self-consumption are favored in absence of a feed-in-tariff. Overall, the proposed model is regarded as applicable for the identified minimum flexibility requirements for the employed generation technologies. The results from the scenario computations provide a clear and robust picture of the role of electricity generation technologies and flexibility options for future house energy systems.

Download or read book Digitalizing Consumption written by Franck Cochoy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary consumer society is increasingly saturated by digital technology, and the devices that deliver this are increasingly transforming consumption patterns. Social media, smartphones, mobile apps and digital retailing merge with traditional consumption spheres, supported by digital devices which further encourage consumers to communicate and influence other consumers to consume. Through a wide range of empirical studies which analyse the impact of digital devices, this volume explores the digitization of consumption and shows how consumer culture and consumption practices are fundamentally intertwined and mediated by digital devices. Exploring the development of new consumer cultures, leading international scholars from sociology, marketing and ethnology examine the effects on practices of consumption and marketing, through topics including big data, digital traces, streaming services, wearables, and social media’s impact on ethical consumption. Digitalizing Consumption makes an important contribution to practice-based approaches to consumption, particularly the use of market devices in consumers’ everyday consumer life, and will be of interest to scholars of marketing, cultural studies, consumer research, organization and management.
Download or read book Optimum Choice of Energy System Configuration and Storages for a Proper Match between Energy Conversion and Demands written by Andrea Lazzaretto and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-01-31 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue addresses the general problem of a proper match between the demands of energy users and the units for energy conversion and storage, by means of proper design and operation of the overall energy system configuration. The focus is either on systems including single plants or groups of plants, connected or not to one or more energy distribution networks. In both cases, the optimum design and operation involve decisions about thermodynamic processes, about the type, number, design parameters of components/plants, and storage capacities, and about mutual interconnections and the interconnections with the distribution grids. The problem is absolutely general, encompassing design and operation of energy systems for single houses, groups of houses, industries, industrial districts, municipal areas, regions and countries. The presented papers show that similar approaches can be used in different applications, although a general standard has not been achieved yet.
