Download or read book Advanced Organic Chemistry written by Francis A. Carey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 829 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this edition, like that of the earlier ones, is to provide the basis for a deeper understanding of the structures of organic compounds and the mechanisms of organic reactions. The level is aimed at advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Our goals are to solidify the student's understanding of basic concepts provided by an introduction to organic chemistry and to present more information and detail, including quantitative information, than can be presented in the first course in organic chemistry. The first three chapters consider the fundamental topi~s of bonding theory, stereochemistry, and conformation. Chapter 4 discusses the techniques that are used to study and characterize reaction mechanisms. Chapter 9 focuses on aromaticity and the structural basis of aromatic stabilization. The remaining chapters consider basic reaction types, including substituent effects and stereochemistry. As compared to the earlier editions, there has been a modest degree of reorganization. The emergence of free-radical reactions in synthesis has led to the inclusion of certain aspects of free-radical chemistry in Part B. The revised chapter, Chapter 12, empha sizes the distinctive mechanistic and kinetic aspects of free-radical reactions. The synthetic applications will be considered in Part B. We have also split the topics of aromaticity and the reactions of aromatic compounds into two separate chapters, Chapters 9 and 10. This may facilitate use of Chapter 9, which deals with the nature of aromaticity, at an earlier stage if an instructor so desires.

This book explores several topics, including carbonium ions, carbanions, carbenes, and carbon radicals. Comprised of six chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the variation of the kinetic and thermodynamic acidities of carbon acids with substituents and environments. This text then explores the methods of carbanion stabilization by substituents and discusses the various types of stabilization. Other chapters explain the stereochemistry of hydrogen–deuterium exchange and examine the stereochemistry of substitution reactions of organometallic compounds. This book discusses as well the structure and immediate environment of reaction intermediates through the use of stereochemical techniques. The final chapter considers the unsaturated anionic rearrangements of carbanions, carbonium ions, as well as carbon radicals and other rearrangements. Chemists, organic chemists, researchers, and graduate students interested in the field of carbanion chemistry will find this book extremely useful.

Book Carbohydrate Chemistry

Download or read book Carbohydrate Chemistry written by R. D. Guthrie and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1970-03 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbohydrate Chemistry provides review coverage of all publications relevant to the chemistry of monosaccharides and oligosaccharides in a given year. The amount of research in this field appearing in the organic chemical literature is increasing because of the enhanced importance of the subject, especially in areas of medicinal chemistry and biology. In no part of the field is this more apparent than in the synthesis of oligosaccharides required by scientists working in glycobiology. Clycomedicinal chemistry and its reliance on carbohydrate synthesis is now very well established, for example, by the preparation of specific carbohydrate- based antigens, especially cancer-specific oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates. Coverage of topics such as nucleosides, amino-sugars, alditols and cyclitols also covers much research of relevance to biological and medicinal chemistry. Each volume of the series brings together references to all published work in given areas of the subject and serves as a comprehensive database for the active research chemist Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage in major areas of chemical research. Compiled by teams of leading authorities in the relevant subject areas, the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, with regular, in-depth accounts of progress in particular fields of chemistry. Subject coverage within different volumes of a given title is similar and publication is on an annual or biennial basis.
