Book Confessions of an Insignificant Pastor

Download or read book Confessions of an Insignificant Pastor written by Mark Elliott and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2009-05-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of trying to be the perfect son, husband, father, and perfect pastor...Mark Elliott slays his dragons of perfectionism, isolation, and superficiality. As mistakes and disappointment happen along his life's journey, Dr. Elliott, a newly transparent, middle-aged pastor confronts his demons of image-conscious paralysis, legalistic upbringing, and unfair judgments by others. In Confessions of an Insignificant Pastor: What Every Pastor Wishes They Could Tell You, Pastor Elliott bares his soul as he takes a brutally honest look at the person we are on the inside that few people ever know. Why would he take such a risk? The reward of helping others find the keys to unlock their prison door is greater than the personal risk. Each chapter hits the nail on the head in relating to the issues inside us and drawing out the hidden person in us all. Dr. Elliott tackles such issues as emotional baggage, people getting on his last nerve, disillusionment, arrogance, messy motives, workaholism and his own battle with sin. When is the last time you heard a pastor confess his debilitating flaws? This book is written from the blood, sweat, and tears that come out of Mark's personal journey. The transparency is refreshing, the honesty is startling, and the positive hope is life-changing.

It is a story drawn from the raw materials of the human condition. It is a profile of real people who turn to pastors from a myriad of motives. It is the story of his own progress and regress and regeneration, as he struggled with the paradoxical nature of church history, ancient creeds, modern interpretations, and the clash of a dramatically new culture with traditional credos. The vulnerability of his journey is exposed for all to see, and the healing influence of family, friends and colleagues becomes happily apparent.

This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is very transparent and will reveal the private deep painful areas of my life that I have kept hidden for many years. It was not my desire to release this book but. My Daddy (Jesus) gave me no choice if I wanted to move forward; I had to release it, or I would not be able to walk in my true destiny and purpose. Everything in the book was written to bring healing in my own life but also to let the readers know that Pastors and Leaders are human, and they hurt too, sometimes more than the average person. Pastors & Leaders are expected to walk in their anointing with a Superhero Spirit without pain, frustration, family issues, financial dilemmas, personal pain, or any natural de- sires. If we encounter any crisis, the first media blast in bold letters; "THEY MUST HAVE SINNED & GOD IS PUNISHING THEM!." Which is not true! We are Humans that hurt and have feelings like everyone else.

Download or read book The Good Confession written by Daniel R. Hyde and published by Wipf and Stock. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, too many Christians are followers of novelty, religious fads, and strange new doctrines unheard of in the history of the church. On the contrary, to be a Christian is to join the great ""cloud of witnesses"" (Heb 12:1) through the ages, confessing with the Body of Christ the ""faith that was once for all delivered to the saints"" (Jude 3). This is what Paul called the ""good confession"" (1 Tim 6:12). This workbook will lead you in a study of what it means to be a Christian from the vantage point of the Bible, the ancient Christian creeds, and the Protestant confessions of the sixteenth century. ""Rev. Hyde has done us a service by covering the standards of the Reformed churches and applying them to prospective church members. As any church planter knows, the issue of church membership is a difficult one in our day. Churches either do not have formal membership or people are accepted too quickly into membership without sufficient exposure to what the church believes or how the church functions. This book addresses and remedies this situation."" --Rev. Paul T. Murphy Messiah's Reformed Fellowship, Ground Zero, NYC ""Rev. Hyde's book is a welcomed resource. I have found in my own experience that Reformed churches are not clear about what is required for members to believe. The Good Confession helps Reformed churches to alleviate this problem by making the Gospel clear and communicating what Christ requires of his people in joining his church."" --Rev. Tom Morrison High Desert United Reformed Church, Apple Valley, CA ""Reformed pastors are always looking for a good curriculum to use with new Christians and inquirers that is solidly Reformed, yet which does not major on the minors. The Good Confession is a well-balanced book that will help us instruct all those inquiring about our doctrine."" --Dr. Kim Riddlebarger, Christ Reformed Church, Anaheim, CA Daniel R. Hyde (Th.M., Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary) is the Pastor of the Oceanside United Reformed Church in Oceanside, California. He is the author of Jesus Loves the Little Children (2006).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are you supposed to do when your two-year-old bares his butt and pees in the street in full view of the congregation exiting church on a Sunday morning---and you’re the pastor’s wife? Told with unabashed honesty and an Erma Bombeck style of humor, the Confessions of a Misfit Pastor’s Wife takes the reader behind the closed doors of the parsonage and into the private and sometimes not so private thoughts of the Lady of the Manse. Isolated, lonely, and kicking against the goads, the young pastor’s wife tries to fulfill all the expectations placed on her with some success, some failures, and some major faux pas. Add the 1950s TV June Cleaver role model for women and the dilemma becomes apparent. This is a must read for anyone interested in the role of women in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Be prepared to laugh and cry with the Misfit Pastor’s Wife.

Download or read book The Pastor S Diary written by William R. Phillippe and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-09-11 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, people have asked me to write about my theology, and I have consistently said that I could tell them what I thought at that particular day but that it would be different tomorrow, which is to say that I strongly believe that theology is a growing thing, constantly changing within the context of a changing society. The book became much more autobiographical than I intended. I discovered that my theology changed because of any experiences I had. I have described my story chronologically, beginning with my early years and how the myth of Christianity was implanted in my mind. I go on to show how I got involved in the church during high school and college and discovered others had different myths than I did. This expanding awareness gave me the stimulus to take a hard look at my own myth. Several professors at both college and seminary helped me through the changes in my understanding of the Christian faith, and I describe via some of my writings what those were. In my first congregation, a new church development, and in subsequent ones, I realized that we understate our laity, and their desire to learn about new concepts has come with further study of scholars. I came to trust that desire and began to preach and teach not only the churchs dogmatics but also the results of creative imagination and the discovery of many scholars throughout the world and from many religious perspectives. My final chapter is entitled So What Do You Believe? In this, I make an attempt to pull together the various and growing concepts of my thought throughout my fifty-plus years in the ordained ministry of the Presbyterian Church. From experience, I know laypersons would be interested in this book. In addition, pastors and other religious professionals, I think, would find it helpful as they go through their own theological pilgrimage.
