Book Confessions of a Church Mouse

Download or read book Confessions of a Church Mouse written by Bre'nae Whiteley and published by . This book was released on 2016-05 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bre'nae Whiteley was a church mouse: quiet, unassuming, rarely drawing attention to herself. Honoring the way she was raised, Bre'nae felt more eager to learn in church than to socialize or lead groups. She found that this quiet, unassuming side of her personality leads some members to question her prayer life and faith. Made evident while gathered in the fellowship hall, preparing to consecrate before going into the choir stand. The choir president asked for someone to say a prayer, before anyone could respond the comment was made "Sis Whiteley doesn't pray" a conclusion drawn because of her quiet ways. The comment stung. After all, Bre'nae prayed regularly not always in front of others. But instead of taking offence, Bre'nae was inspired to use it as an opportunity to reflect on her own prayer life. She found that not only could she grow in her communication with God. There were no doubt other quiet, unassuming church goers all over the nation that more than likely found themselves in the category of the Church Mouse. By closely examining her prayer life and her relationship with God, she learned that a church mouse has a special role in praying for the body of Christ and encouraging its well-being in ways that are quiet but incredibly valuable.

Book excerpt: In Midnight Confessions, poet Joy Olree, a self-described autistic poet with MS, presents a collection of user-friendly verse reflecting on her experiences with the world and her readings and studies of the Bible. She offers her opinions on a wide range of topics and invites disagreement and discussion. Midnight Confessions In the twinkling of an eye they came, the memory snatchers. First it was the short-term memories, then the medium ones. As time went by, more memories seem to leave, but she never forgot her God and she never did not pray. I put my hand on her bed as she breathed her last breath. I prayed, Thank you, Lord, for making it possible for me to be there. As I sit here in the lighted room, the dark outside, I miss my stepmom. Tomorrow is Christmas, a time of celebration, and I think to myself, Do I have anything to celebrate? Most of my family has died. I still have the children and the grandchildren. I guess I am blessed, and is that not the way of life? Us older folks die, and the young take our place, unless there is some unforeseen unexpected tragedy. But I have much to be thankful for this Christmas. See, because of my decision to take care of my stepmom at the nursing home, I now have a new set of friends. A nursing home full of friends. Thank you, stepmom and God, for making this possible. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, humanity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I rambled through the streets for some hours, revolving such thoughts as pressed upon me involuntarily by all I saw. The same little grey homunculus that filled my "prince's mixture" years before, stood behind the counter at Lundy Foot's, weighing out rappee and high toast, just as I last saw him. The fat college porter, that I used to mistake in my school-boy days for the Provost, God forgive me!

Book Confessions of a Home Army Executioner

Download or read book Confessions of a Home Army Executioner written by Roger Moorhouse and published by Greenhill Books. This book was released on 2024-07-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book is moral dynamite. It reveals not only what men can do in war but also what war can do to men.” – Norman Davies, historian and academic Stefan D?mbski joined the Polish Home Army in 1942 when he was just 16 years old. The Home Army formed the military wing of the Polish Underground, the resistance movement established to fight the Nazi occupation of Poland during the Second World War. During this occupation, the Home Army passed death sentences on hundreds of individuals – both Nazi enemies and colluding Polish compatriots. As one of the few Home Army members who volunteered to carry out these death sentences, the young D?mbski quickly became a seasoned executioner. In July 1945, D?mbski was transferred to the West and ended up in the United States where he remained until his death in 1993. In his final years, D?mbski recorded his story in fascinating, shocking detail. After his death, his memoirs came into the possession of his niece and nephew before eventually arriving at the KARTA Foundation in 2005. Initially published in the original Polish, Sobieralski’s translation of D?mbski’s records now gives English-language readers a hugely important insight into the mind of this seasoned executioner. Readers are made aware of the facts and actions of D?mbski’s life, but are witness to the lifelong moral struggle that accompanied these actions and led him to reflect on ideas of heroism, patriotism, guilt and on the very act of war itself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They arrive alive. They always leave dead. But first, they give me their confessions, and this one has to everything to do with Christmas. Merry Ho-Ho and all that holiday cheer. This book has it all: the cozy, loving, gift-giving while chomping on cookies right before you die - type of feels you know you'll read with one of my confession books. If you think this book has all that fun, cheerful yule-tide greetings in it...you're only partially right. You know by now my name is Jack Steen, and for those who arrive on my 'death' ward at the Asylum, I'm the last face many will see before they die. I am the night nurse at an Asylum for the Criminally Insane, and most of my patients know me as their Angel of Death. I know them as mass murderers, rapists, and serial killers - among other things. Here's what happens: they come on my floor, they give me their deathbed confession, and I help to make their death less painful. There's a catch, though: I want the real story, the one they haven't told anyone else. These killers are expert manipulators. I realize they could be playing with me and messing with my head. It's a chance I'm willing to take. Inside this book are 5 DeathBed Confessions all around the holiday theme: Patient Clyde – likes to nibble on sugar cookies while watching his victim die Patient Penny – likes to replace the jam in the thumbprint cookies with blood Patient Andrea – she's got a thing about gingerbread cookies and revenge Patient Birdie Bleu - give her some candy cane shortbread cookies - after all she's been through, she deserves them Patient Becca – she gets no cookies and to be honest, she almost didn't make it into this book WARNING: There is swearing in this book. And some stories might be a trigger for something you have a hard time handling. But, these ARE the confessions of serial killers, mass murderers and such, so what do you expect?
