It is a book that network designers, software developers, product manufacturers, implementers, interoperability testers, professionals, professors, and researchers will find to be immensely useful. Practitioners and engineers in all spectrums who are concentrating on building the real-time, scalable, interoperable multipoint applications, can use this book to make informed choices based on technical standards in the market place, on all proprietary non-scalable and non-interposable products. This book will provide focus and foundation for these decision makers.

Book Collaborative Learning Through Computer Conferencing

Download or read book Collaborative Learning Through Computer Conferencing written by Anthony R. Kaye and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for the Workshop on which this book is based arose from discussions which we had when we both attended an earlier - and more broadly based - NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Computer Supported Collaborative Learning, directed by Claire O'Malley in Maratea, Italy, in 1989. We both felt that it would be interesting to organise a second Workshop in this area, but specifically concerned with the use of computers and networking (telematics) as communication tools for collaborative learning outside the formal school setting. We were particularly interested in examining the ways in which computer conferencing can be used for collaboration and group learning in the contexts of distance education, adult learning, professional training, and organisational networking. And we wanted to ensure that we included, in the scope of the Workshop, situations in which learning is a primary, explicit goal (e.g. an online training programme) as well as situations where learning occurs as a secondary, even incidental, outcome of a collaborative activity whose explicit purpose might be different (e.g. the activities of networked product teams or task groups). Another goal was to try to bring together for a few days people with three different perspectives on the use of computer conferencing: users, researchers, and software designers. We hoped that, if we could assemble a group of people from these three different constituencies, we might, collectively, be able to make a small contribution to real progress in the field.

Book Minimizing Conflict Through Restorative Conferencing

Download or read book Minimizing Conflict Through Restorative Conferencing written by Edna Fenceroy and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The restorative conferencing approach is a precise and peaceful alternative to resolving disagreements. It promotes mutual respect for the opinions of others by understanding opinions are beliefs. Perceptions are real to the person holding them, but are not necessarily factual. Allowing for the opinions of others does not give your approval of their behavior or principles; it paves the way for a mutual and better understanding of the dispute.

Book The Little Book of Transformative Community Conferencing

Download or read book The Little Book of Transformative Community Conferencing written by David Anderson Hooker and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-07-12 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When conflicts become ingrained in communities, people lose hope. Dialogue is necessary but never sufficient, and often actions prove inadequate to produce substantial change. Even worse, chosen actions create more conflict because people have different lived experiences, priorities, and approaches to transformation. So what’s the story? In The Little Book of Transformative Community Conferencing, David Anderson Hooker offers a hopeful, accessible approach to dialogue that: Integrates several practice approaches including restorative justice, peacebuilding, and arts Creates welcoming, non-divisive spaces for dialogue Names and maps complex conflicts, such as racial tensions, religious divisions, environmental issues, and community development as it narrates simple stories Builds relationships and foundations for trust needed to support long-term community transformation projects And results in the crafting of hopeful, future-oriented visions of community that can transform relationships, resource allocation, and structures in service of communities’ preferred narratives. The Little Book Transformative Community Conferencing will prove valuable and timely to mediators, restorative justice practitioners, community organizers, as well as leaders of peacebuilding and change efforts. It presents an important, stand-alone process, an excellent addition to the study and practice of strategic peacebuilding, restorative justice, conflict transformation, trauma healing, and community organizing. This book recognizes the complexity of conflict, choosing long-term solutions over inadequate quick fixes. The Transformative Community Conferencing model emerges from the author’s thirty years of practice in contexts as diverse as South Sudan; Mississippi; Greensboro, North Carolina; Oakland, California; and Nassau, Bahamas.

Book Video Conferencing

Download or read book Video Conferencing written by Axel Volmar and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic has reorganized existing methods of exchange, turning comparatively marginal technologies into the new normal. Multipoint videoconferencing in particular has become a favored means for web-based forms of remote communication and collaboration without physical copresence. Taking the recent mainstreaming of videoconferencing as its point of departure, this anthology examines the complex mediality of this new form of social interaction. Connecting theoretical reflection with material case studies, the contributors question practices, politics and aesthetics of videoconferencing and the specific meanings it acquires in different historical, cultural and social contexts.
