Book Properties of Commercial Conductive Floorings for Hospital Operating Rooms

Download or read book Properties of Commercial Conductive Floorings for Hospital Operating Rooms written by National Research Council of Canada. Division of Building Research and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is now generally accepted that the floors of hospital operating rooms should be electrically semiconducting to prevent the accumulation of electrostatic charges. A discussion of the problem involved and of the reasons for the use of conductive flooring has been given in a paper by Legget and Sereda (1). Since the demand for conductive floorings arose, a number of products with different general characteristics have been made commercially available. These floors must perform the function of ordinary floors in addition to meeting the requirement of moderate electrical conductivity. They are also subject to the requirements of appearance, durability, and effect upon the comfort and convenience of the user. The selection of a conductive flooring, therefore, depends upon the relative importance to be assigned to the desired properties, To assist in the selection of conductive flooring for which service experience is not available, and to assess the properties of different conductive floorings laboratory work was undertaken by the Division of Building Research. Nine conductive flooring materials commercially available, eight of them being proprietary products, have been under study in the Building Materials Laboratory of the Division since July 1954. Samples of the materials sufficient to make about 36 square feet of finished floor were obtained through normal channels and were used to construct small test areas on the laboratory floor. These have been subjected to normal laboratory traffic ; they have bean examined and certain pertinent properties measured periodically during a period of eighteen months. The results of these studies are now reported."--Page [1].
