The General Chairs of the conference were Pierre-Alain Fouque and Damien Vergnaud. Theconferencereceived150submissionsandeachsubmissionwasassignedto at least three committee members. Submissions co-authored by members of the Program Committee were assigned to at least four committee members. Due to thelargenumber ofhigh-qualitysubmissions,thereviewprocesswaschallenging andwearedeeplygratefulto the committeemembersandthe externalreviewers for their outstanding work. After meticulous deliberation, the Program C- mittee, which was chaired by Michel Abdalla and David Pointcheval, selected 32 submissions for presentation in the academic track and these are the articles that are included in this volume. Additionally, a few other submissions were selected for presentation in the non-archival industrial track. The best student paper was awarded to Ayman Jarrous for his paper “Secure Hamming Distance Based Computation and Its Applications,” co-authoredwith Benny Pinkas. The review process was run using the iChair software, written by Thomas Baigneres and Matthieu Finiasz from EPFL, LASEC, Switzerland and we are indebted to them for letting us use their software. The programalso included four invited talks in addition to the academicand industrial tracks.

Ultimately, although much has been written about presidential leadership of opinion, we are still left with many questions pertaining to the success of presidential opinion leadership efforts throughout the modern presidency. What is still missing is a systematic, sequential approach to describe empirical trends in presidential leadership of public opinion in order to expand on important scholarly queries, to resolve empirical disputes in the literature, and to check the accuracy of conventional political wisdom on how, when, and under what conditions presidents lead public opinion. In The Provisional Pulpit, Brandon Rottinghaus develops a simple theory of presidential leadership, arguing that presidential messages are more likely to be received if there are fewer countervailing agents or messages to contradict the president’s message. He concludes, based upon the findings presented in this book, that the “bully pulpit” is largely provisional for modern presidents. The more the president can avoid the political echo chamber associated with partisan battles or communications, the better the chance the president has to lead public opinion. The Provisional Pulpit adds an important layer of understanding to the issue of how and under what conditions presidents lead public opinion. We cannot make progress with human-to-machine authentication without understanding both humans and machines. Mobile security is not simply security ported to a handset. Handsets have different constraints than traditional computers, and are used in a different way. Text entry is more frustrating, and therefore, it is tempting to use shorter and less complex passwords. It is also harder to detect spoofing. We need to design with this in mind. We also need to determine how exactly to integrate biometric readers to reap the maximum benefits from them. This book addresses all of these issues, and more.
