Book Condensed Isogeometric Analysis for Plate and Shell Structures

Download or read book Condensed Isogeometric Analysis for Plate and Shell Structures written by Buntara Gan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Condensed Isogeometric Analysis for Plates and Shell Structures proposes a novel technique for plate and shell governing equations based on isogeometric analysis, which condenses the dynamic equilibrium equation for plate and shell structures—suitable for reducing the computation cost of large degrees of freedom due to the adoption of Non-Uniform Rational Basis Spline (NURBS) models in the plate and shell element formulations. It features useful guidance for understanding the isogeometric approach and includes accompanying MATLAB® source code in each chapter to deepen readers' understanding of the fundamental theories and methods of civil, architectural, and mechanical engineering. Features: Adopts a progressive and rigorous presentation of relevant topics to facilitate use by students, academics, and professionals Seamlessly integrates the CAD geometrical data into the conventional FE plate and shell classical element codes Allows computation of analytical solutions of plate and shell theories based on a newly-introduced condensation method, not approximation theory Includes relevant MATLAB® codes

Download or read book Structural Shell Analysis written by Johan Blaauwendraad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical description of the properties of a shell is much more elaborate than those of beam and plate structures. Therefore many engineers and architects are unacquainted with aspects of shell behaviour and design, and are not familiar with sufficiently reliable shell theories for the different shell types as derived in the middle of the 20th century. Rather than contributing to theory development, this university textbook focuses on architectural and civil engineering schools. Of course, practising professionals will profit from it as well. The book deals with thin elastic shells, in particular with cylindrical, conical and spherical types, and with elliptic and hyperbolic paraboloids. The focus is on roofs, chimneys, pressure vessels and storage tanks. Special attention is paid to edge bending disturbance zones, which is indispensable knowledge in FE meshing. A substantial part of the book results from research efforts in the mid 20th century at Delft University of Technology. As such, it is a valuable addition to the body of shell research literature of continuing importance. This work can be used for university courses. It also shows professionals how to perform manual calculations of the main force flow in shell structures, and provides guidance for structural engineers estimating stresses and deformations.

Book Design of Plate and Shell Structures

Download or read book Design of Plate and Shell Structures written by Maan H. Jawad and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2004-03-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting text is written primarily for professional engineers interested in designing plate and shell structures. It covers basic aspects of theories and gives examples for the design of components due to internal and external loads as well as other loads such as wind and dead loads. Various derivations are kept relatively simple and the resultant equations are simplified to a level where the engineer may apply them directly to design problems. More elaborate derivations and more general equations may be found in the literature for those interested in a more in-depth knowledge of the theories of plates and shells. COMPLETE CONTENTS Bending of simply supported rectangular plates Bending of various rectangular plates Bending of circular plates Plates of various shapes and properties Approximate analysis of plates Buckling of plates Vibration of plates Membrane theory of shells of revolution Various applications of the membrane theory Bending of thin cylindrical shells due to axisymmetric loads, Various structures Buckling of cylindrical shells Buckling of shells of revolution Vibration of shells Basic finite element equations. The examples given throughout Design of Plate and Shell Structures are intended to show the engineer the level of analysis needed to achieve a safe design based on a given required degree of accuracy. The book is also appropriate for advanced engineering courses.
