In the research and development concerning thermal energy, however, it was clar ified that one of the most important problems was manufacturing con densing systems with smaller size and higher performance. To solve this problem we need a method which synthesizes selections_ of the type of con denser, cooling tube and its arrangement, assessment of fouling on the cooling surfaces, consideration of transient characteristics of a condenser, etc. The majority of effort, however, has been to devise a surface element which enhances the heat transfer coefficient in condensation of a single or multicomponent vapor. Condensation phenomena are complexly affected by a lot of physical property values, and accordingly the results of theo retical research are expressed with several dimensionless parameters. On the other hand, the experimental research is limited to those with some specified cooling surfaces and some specified working fluids. Hence, the basic research of condensation is necessary for criticizing the enhancement effect as well as for an academic interest.

Le rappel bibliographique montre que les équations empiriques et les hypothèses sur la contrainte tangentielle à l'interface liquide/vapeur couramment admises ne donnent pas des résultats en accord avec les expériences.Une nouvelle méthode de calcul numérique permettant de tenir compte des termes d’inertie, de convection d’enthalpie, de gradient de pression et de pesanteur, a été présentée. Les équations du film de condensat sont résolues à l’aide d’un schéma numérique explicite de différences finies. La condensation sur la surface extérieure de tubes horizontaux de section elliptique placés dans un écoulement de vapeur (d’eau, de fréon 113 ou de fréon 11) à une vitesse non nulle a été étudiée. Les résultats des présents calculs sont conformes aux expériences. Les équations couplées de la couche limite pour la phase liquide et pour la phase vapeur dans un écoulement de vapeur turbulente se condensant d’une part entre plaques planes verticales et d’autre part à l’intérieur de tubes verticaux ont été résolus. Il a été démontré que la structure de l’écoulement est différente de celle d’un écoulement monophasique et que l’hypothèse de Shekriladze et Gomelauri n’est pas applicable pour un écoulement turbulent de vapeur. Les résultats expérimentaux concernant la condensation à l’intérieur d’un tube lors d’un écoulement pulsé de vapeur d’eau ainsi que ceux de la condensation sur la surface extérieure d’un tube vertical muni d’ailettes de forme sinoïdale sont présentés en annexes.
