Book Corrosion Protection of Pipelines Conveying Water and Wastewater

Download or read book Corrosion Protection of Pipelines Conveying Water and Wastewater written by Robert C. Prevost and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social importance and economic cost of water and sewage pipelines make it essential to maintain them in good working order. Corrosion is one of the most common factors in their alteration and possible, untimely destruction, but it can be prevented or controlled, usually at a relatively low cost. Based on an analysis of existing literature and a number of case studies, this document suggests a series of guidelines for effective corrosion control. Water treatment can play a key role in preventing or controlling internal pipe corrosion; the use of appropriate linings can protect metal components. Coatings or protective outer thin plastic sleeves can effectively guard pipelines against corrosion from external factors. Cathodic protection is also effective, but should be used only where required. New techniques are being developed for rehabilitating old pipelines to extend their functional life, thereby avoiding costly replacement. These processes require, however, a high level of expertise as well as specialized equipment; urban areas in developing countries with relatively newer and smaller pipeline networks and labor costs may therefore find rehabilitation to be a less cost-effective and attractive option.

Book Concrete in Aggressive Ground

Download or read book Concrete in Aggressive Ground written by Building Research Establishment and published by Bre Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This BRE Special Digest provides practical guidance on specifying concrete for use in natural ground and in brownfield locations. The procedures for ground assessment and concrete specification cover the fairly common occurrence of sulfates, sulfides and acids and also the more rarely occurring aggressive carbon dioxide found in some ground and surface waters, which affects concrete foundations and sub-structures. This edition has been revised to reflect thinking and changes to British Standards. It introduces the phenomenon of chemical attack of concrete in the ground, describes modes of chemical attack and discusses the mechanisms of the principal types, including sulfate and acid attack, and the action of aggressive carbon dioxide. It then gives guidance on assessing the chemical aggressiveness of the ground, and recommendations for specifying concrete for general cast-in-situ use in the ground. It also gives recommendations for specifying surface carbonated precast concrete for general use in the ground, and includes design guides for specification of specific precast concrete products, including pipeline systems, box culverts and segmental linings for tunnels and shafts. The guidance applies to both buildings and civil engineering construction.

Book Reliability and Maintainability of In Service Pipelines

Download or read book Reliability and Maintainability of In Service Pipelines written by Mojtaba Mahmoodian and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliability and Maintainability of In-Service Pipelines helps engineers understand the best structural analysis methods and more accurately predict the life of their pipeline assets. Expanded to cover real case studies from oil and gas, sewer and water pipes, this reference also explains inline inspection and how the practice influences reliability analysis, along with various reliability models beyond the well-known Monte Carlo method. Encompassing both numerical and analytical methods in structural reliability analysis, this book gives engineers a stronger point of reference covering both pipeline maintenance and monitoring techniques in a single resource. Provides tactics on cost-effective pipeline integrity management decisions and strategy for a variety of different pipes Presents readers with rational tools for strengthening and rehabing existing pipelines Teaches how to optimize materials selection and design parameters for designing future pipelines with a longer service life
