Book Design Construction and Maintenance of PCC Pavement Joints

Download or read book Design Construction and Maintenance of PCC Pavement Joints written by Kenneth H. McGhee and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1995 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of special interest to pavement engineers and pavement construction and maintenance personnel responsible for portland cement concrete (PCC) pavement joints. Still pertinent information from NCHRP Synthesis 19 (1973), as well as new or updated information in the areas of joint design, construction, and maintenance are included. This report of the Transportation Research Board records the state of the practice with respect to the design, construction, and maintenance of PCC pavement joints. In addition, information on joint materials and sealing, the control of water on and in pavements, and the evaluation of pavement joint performance is provided.

Book A Pavement Management System for Concrete Roadways in Virginia

Download or read book A Pavement Management System for Concrete Roadways in Virginia written by Robert R. Long and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report traces the development of a rating system proposed by the author and reviewed by a subcommittee of the Pavement Management Research Advisory Committee for use in evaluating the service condition of Virginia's Portland cement concrete pavements. The service condition is assessed in terms of distress roughness, i.e., that portion of a pavement's poor ride characteristics directly attributable to the occurrence of certain key distress types. The key distresses identified for jointed concrete pavements are permanent patching, lane/shoulder separation, transverse joint faulting, transverse joint seal damage, and scaling, map cracking, or crazing. For continuously reinforced pavements, spacing of transverse cracks, lane/shoulder separation, and scaling, map cracking, or crazing were identified. Field surveys of the occurrence of these distresses provided the necessary data for estimating distress roughness through the use of prediction equations that have been established from the standard statistical analysis of pavement section distress data and roughness measurements. The use of distress roughness to reflect a pavement's service condition provides a common basis for comparison of pavement sections. This, in turn, enables managers to set priorities for pavement rehabilitation. These rating procedures and a comprehensive system for managing Portland cement concrete pavements will be implemented in a subsequent project.

Book Long Term Performance Program

Download or read book Long Term Performance Program written by R. G. Hicks and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sponsored by the Highway Division of ASCE; Long-Term Performance Program of the Federal Highway Administration. This collection contains papers from the International Contest on LTPP [Long-Term Performance Program] Data Analysis 1998-1999. This competition involved university students in the analysis of data in the LTPP database. Topics include: effect of locked-in curvature on portland cement concrete pavement; evaluation of a pavement performance prediction model using LTPP data; prediction of pavement performance?a neural network approach; and effectiveness of preventative maintenance strategies for asphalt concrete pavements based on LTPP distress data.

Book Performance related Specifications for Highway Construction and Rehabilitation

Download or read book Performance related Specifications for Highway Construction and Rehabilitation written by William P. Chamberlin and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1995 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to administrators, including contract and specifications administrators; research, construction, materials, specification, and design engineers; agency project managers and staff; and highway construction contractors. It describes the state of the practice with respect to the development and present status of performance-related specifications (PRS) for highway materials and construction. This report of the Transportation Research Board summarizes the historical events that have prompted U.S. interest in PRS development and describes the underlying concepts. In addition, it describes current practice with regard to PRS implementation and refers to the principal PRS literature with emphasis on performance and cost models. It emphasizes the utility of PRS in providing objective/ rational measures that can be used for special contract conditions, such as incentive or disincentive adjustments.

Book Concrete Pavement Design and Rehabilitation

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design and Rehabilitation written by John P. Zaniewski and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The state of the art of Portland cement concrete pavement evaluation is reviewed with emphasis on the methods applicable to the urban freeway environment. Methods are recommended for texture evaluation, void detection and condition surveys. Data analysis methods useful for the development of pavement performance models are presented. The overall framework for life cycle cost (LCC) analysis is described with recommendations for the development of a LCC method for the Arizona Department of Transportation.
