This book was released on 2023-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Saint Nikodemos' renowned work, Concerning Frequent Communion, the pious reader will find answers, combed from the entire patristic tradition, to such questions as: How should I approach the Holy Mysteries? What preparation is necessary? How often should I commune? And, what does it mean to be "worthy" of Holy Communion? Based upon and gathered from the teachings of the Holy Fathers of the Church, Concerning Frequent Communion provides a much needed, comprehensive and "catholic corrective" to the variety of one-sided approaches so prevalent today. This volume includes a thorough explanation of the Lord's Prayer, an apology for frequent communion, and answers to objections and clarifications of misconceptions.

Book Manna from Athos

Download or read book Manna from Athos written by Hieromonk Patapios and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the first complete English translation, fully annotated, of the treatise Concerning Frequent Communion, commonly attributed to Sts. Makarios of Corinth and Nikodemos the Hagiorite, the compilers of the Philokalia. This pivotal treatise, by two central figures in the Kollyvades movement, which originated on Mount Athos in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, addresses a somewhat less well-known corollary issue in Orthodox spirituality, that of frequent Communion. The authors discuss the controversy surrounding a decline in the frequency of Communion in the Christian East, the relationship of that controversy to the Kollyvades movement, and the theological arguments in support of frequent Communion advanced by Makarios and Nikodemos, whose joint authorship of the treatise they endeavor to substantiate.

Download or read book The Philokalia written by Brock Bingaman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-06-26 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Philokalia (literally "love of the beautiful or good") is, after the Bible, the most influential source of spiritual tradition within the Orthodox Church. First published in Greek in 1782 by St. Nicodemos of the Holy Mountain and St. Macarios of Corinth, the Philokalia includes works by thirty-six influential Orthodox authors from the fourth to fifteenth-centuries such as Maximus the Confessor, Peter of Damascus, Symeon the New Theologian, and Gregory Palamas. Surprisingly, this important collection of theological and spiritual writings has received little scholarly attention. With the growing interest in Orthodox theology, the need for a substantive resource for philokalic studies has become increasingly evident. The purpose of the present volume is to remedy that lack by providing an ecumenical collection of scholarly essays on the Philokalia that will introduce readers to its background, motifs, authors, and relevance for contemporary life and thought.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are we Methodists ready for the work of God to be unleashed? Are we ready for Methodism to be the catalyst of yet another New Pentecost? God has decisively acted in Christ, and Christ says, “Do this.” Therefore, there is only one real answer, since “not ready” is not a valid response. For United Methodism to be revived, there can be no more such excuses. Christ showed us his presence and power through Constant Word and Sacrament praxis during the time of the Acts 2 church. Christ then again showed us his same divine presence and power through Constant Word and Sacrament praxis during the Methodist-Evangelical Revival. We have now been given two millennia to view this work of God. We Methodists were born of this work of God. How much more being made ready to unleash it do we require?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sharp controversies -- about biblical authority, the ordination of women, evangelical "worship styles," and the struggle for homosexual "inclusion" -- have rocked the Lutheran church in recent decades. In Changing Churches two men who once communed at the same Lutheran Eucharistic table explain their similar but different decisions to leave the Lutheran faith tradition -- one for Orthodoxy, the other for Roman Catholicism. Here Mickey L. Mattox and A. G. Roeber address the most difficult questions Protestants face when considering such a conversion, including views on justification, grace, divinization, the church and its authority, women and ministry, papal infallibility, the role of Mary, and homosexuality. They also discuss the long-standing ecumenical division between Rome and the Orthodox patriarchates, acknowledging the difficult issues that still confront those traditions from within and divide them from one another.

In 2017, this Movement, celebrated its 50th Jubilee anniversary in the Roman Catholic Church. Book Visits to the Most Holy Sacrament for Every Day of the Month

Download or read book Visits to the Most Holy Sacrament for Every Day of the Month written by Alphonsus M. Ligouri and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-01-19 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This also includes meditations for every day in the week and a novena for All Souls Day. Also a devout method for hearing Mass from Saint Leonard of Port Maurice. Faith teaches, and we are obliged to believe, that Jesus Christ is really present in the consecrated Host, under the appearances of bread; but we should also know that he remains on our altars, as on a throne of love and of mercy, there to dispense his graces, and there to show his love for us, by remaining with us night and day in this hidden manner. We know that the holy Church has instituted the festival of the most holy sacrament, which is celebrated for eight days, with so many solemn processions and expositions of the adorable sacrament, that Christians may, by their devotions, their thanksgivings, and affections, gratefully acknowledge and honor the loving presence and dwelling of Jesus Christ in the sacrament of the altar. O God! How many injuries and insults must this amiable Redeemer have suffered, how many must he suffer eyery day, from the. very men for the love of whom he remains on our altars! Of this he bitterly complained to his dear servant, Sister Margaret Alacoque, as is related by the author of the book" On the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus."
