Book Developments in the Formulation and Reinforcement of Concrete

Download or read book Developments in the Formulation and Reinforcement of Concrete written by Sidney Mindess and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-01-23 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete is the most widely-used construction material in the world. This important book summarises the wealth of recent research on improving qualities such as durability and sustainability as well as the emergence of a new generation of specialist concretes for particular applications.A number of chapters discuss new types of concrete such as autoclaved aerated concrete, high-strength concrete, sprayed concrete, fibre-reinforced concrete, lightweight concrete, self-compacting concrete, foamed and polymer concrete, together with their characteristics and applications. Other chapters review the development of concrete especially suited for particular conditions such as radiation protection, hot weather and underwater conditions, as well as the increasingly important area of recycling. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Developments in the formulation and reinforcement of concrete is a standard reference for civil and structural engineers. - Summarises a wealth of recent research on improving qualities such as sustainability and durability - Discusses new concrete types together with their characteristics and applications - Reviews the development of concrete especially suited to particular conditions such as hot weather and under water

Book Computational Fluid Dynamics Best Practice Guidelines for Dry Cask Applications

Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics Best Practice Guidelines for Dry Cask Applications written by U.s. Nuclear Regulatory Comion and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-05-21 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT Dry storage cask designs for spent nuclear fuel are submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for certification under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 72, “Licensing Requirements for the Independent Storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel, High- Level Radioactive Waste, and Reactor-Related Greater Than Class C Waste.” The NRC staff technical review of these designs is performed in accordance with 10 CFR Part 72 and the “Standard Review Plan (SRP) for Spent Fuel Dry Storage Systems at a General License Facility” (NUREG-1536, 2010). To ensure that the cask and fuel material temperatures of the dry cask storage system will remain within the allowable limits or criteria for normal, off-normal, and accident conditions, a thermal review is performed as part of the application's technical review. Recent applications increasingly have used thermal-hydraulic analyses and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes (e.g., FLUENT) to demonstrate the adequacy of the thermal design. Therefore, in cooperation with the Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation of the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research developed this guide to provide practical advice for reviewing CFD methods used in vendor applications and for achieving high-quality CFD simulations of a dry cask. To assist in the analysis, the report includes procedures, analysis methods, and acceptable assumptions.

Book LMFBR Spent Fuel Transport

Download or read book LMFBR Spent Fuel Transport written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptual designs for 6- and 18-subassembly casks are presented. The casks are intended for transport of LMFBR spent fuel which has decayed a minimum of 30 days. These casks use sodium as the primary coolant, an auxiliary shield coolant system in normal operation, heavy steel members as both gamma shield and structure, and a eutectic mixture of LiOH and NaOH as a neutron shield. The analysis indicates that there will be no leakage of coolant or fission products under normal or hypothetical accident conditions.

Book Standard Review Plan for Dry Cask Storage Systems Final Report

Download or read book Standard Review Plan for Dry Cask Storage Systems Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standard Review Plan (SRP) For Dry Cask Storage Systems provides guidance to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff in the Spent Fuel Project Office for performing safety reviews of dry cask storage systems. The SRP is intended to ensure the quality and uniformity of the staff reviews, present a basis for the review scope, and clarification of the regulatory requirements. Part 72, Subpart B generally specifies the information needed in a license application for the independent storage of spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste. Regulatory Guide 3.61 {open_quotes}Standard Format and Content for a Topical Safety Analysis Report for a Spent Fuel Dry Storage Cask{close_quotes} contains an outline of the specific information required by the staff. The SRP is divided into 14 sections which reflect the standard application format. Regulatory requirements, staff positions, industry codes and standards, acceptance criteria, and other information are discussed.
