Book Harnessing the Power of Collective Learning

Download or read book Harnessing the Power of Collective Learning written by Roy Steiner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-12 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What were new ideas 30 years ago, such as the concepts of participatory development and systems thinking, are now accepted norms in international development circles. The majority of professionals engaged in rural development accept the proposition that the people who participate in development should play an active role in defining, implementing, and evaluating projects intended to improve their productivity and lives. However this goal remains unrealized in many development programs. Harnessing the Power of Collective Learning considers the challenges and potential of enabling collective learning in rural development initiatives. The book presents 11 case studies of organizations trying to develop and implement collective learning systems as an integral component of sustainable development practice. Through systematic reflection on action and experience, key lessons and themes emerge regarding the nature of voice, participation, feedback loops, accountability and transparency, that will be useful for many others in the development community. This book is a useful resource for academics, practitioners and policy makers in the areas of international development, sustainable development, organizational development, philanthropy, learning communities, monitoring and evaluation and rural development.

Book Implementing Rural Development Projects

Download or read book Implementing Rural Development Projects written by Elliott R Morss and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with problems frequently encoun-tered by agencies, managers, and technicians who try to implement large-scale development projects. Specifically, it focuses on the implementation problems associated with projects sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID) and the World Bank in developing countries. Some historical background on how implementation problems became a focus of concern is presented below. Development assistance on a significant scale started with Marshall Plan aid to reconstruct Western Europe following World War II. [1] In that case, the donor (the United States) asked not to be part of the process that determined how the money was to be spent. Instead, the United States asked the West European countries to establish their own priorities for assistance (which they did after a considerable amount of inter-country negotiation).

Book Evaluation for Inclusive and Sustainable Rural Transformation

Download or read book Evaluation for Inclusive and Sustainable Rural Transformation written by Oscar A. García and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-07-16 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a team of expert practitioners at the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD, this book gives an overview of evaluation practice at IFAD. It looks at how evaluation practice has evolved to reflect, respond to and inform changing expectations of development assistance. It reveals how evaluation products and methodologies have benefited from key reviews, revisions and lessons learned, and also how they have progressively strengthened IFAD’s capacity to assess its operations and better understand its results. The book concludes with reflections on some of the challenges that lie ahead, including how the independent evaluation function can continue to evolve to meet future challenges and enhance the impact of development initiatives on people’s lives. This valuable insight into practice will be of interest to researchers, practitioners and policymakers in development economics, development studies and rural studies.
