Book excerpt: This series of books is about the Twelve Service Concepts in Narcotics Anonymous. I chose to work the concepts as well because I believe the steps are a guide on how to live, the traditions on how to work as a group, and the concepts on how to perform a task. These poems are all inspired by phrases found in the reading of Twelve Service Concepts by Narcotics Anonymous. This book is not affiliated to Narcotics Anonymous whatsoever, this book contains just the reflections of one of its members. These poems were my way of working through this concept, and this is only a way to share how I relate to the content of this reading. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Download or read book A Framework for K 12 Science Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life and hold the key to solving many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. The United States' position in the global economy is declining, in part because U.S. workers lack fundamental knowledge in these fields. To address the critical issues of U.S. competitiveness and to better prepare the workforce, A Framework for K-12 Science Education proposes a new approach to K-12 science education that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field. A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice. A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.

Download or read book Engineering Modeling and Design written by William L. Chapman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Modeling and Design is a comprehensive systems engineering text that focuses on systematic principles for designing systems. Concurrent engineering, which requires that from the very start of a project all players (e.g., engineering, maintenance, marketing, customers) are involved as all facets of the system life cycle are considered, is skillfully illustrated through the use of two major case studies. The text describes how a product design proceeds parallel to the process design, explains key duties of systems engineers throughout the product life cycle, and examines the process of system design in terms of life cycle requirements. Projects and problems are presented throughout the text. A homework solutions/instructor's manual is available from the publisher upon request. Engineering Modeling and Design is an excellent text for engineering design courses in industry and upper division courses on concurrent engineering or total quality management.

Download or read book The Human Body Concepts of Anatomy and Physiology written by Bruce Wingerd and published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. This book was released on 2020-04-06 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of Bruce Wingerd's The Human Body: Concepts of Anatomy and Physiology helps encourage learning through concept building, and is truly written with the student in mind. Learning Concepts divide each chapter into easily absorbed subunits of information, making learning more achievable. Since students in a one-semester course may have little experience with biological and chemical concepts, giving them tools such as "concept statements," "concept check" questions, and a "concept block study sheet" at the end of each chapter help them relate complex ideas to simple everyday events. The book also has a companion Student Notebook and Study Guide (available separately) that reinvents the traditional study guide by giving students a tool to help grasp information in class and then reinforce learning outside of class.

Download or read book Functional Safety and Proof of Compliance written by Thor Myklebust and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to facilitate and improve development work related to all documents and information required by functional safety standards. Proof of Compliance (PoC) is important for the assessor and certification bodies when called up to confirm that the manufacturer has developed a software system according to the required safety standards. While PoC documents add functionality to the product neither for the developer nor for the customer, they do add confidence and trust to the product and ease certification, and as such are important for the product’s value. In spite of this added value, the documentation needed for PoC is often developed late in the project and in a haphazard manner. This book aims at developers, assessors, certification bodies, and purchasers of safety instrumented systems and informs the reader about the most important PoC documents. A typical PoC documentation encompasses 50 to 200 documents, several of which are named in the safety standards (e.g., 82 documents in IEC 61508:2010 series, 101 documents in EN 5012X series and 106 work products in ISO 26262:2018 series). These documents also include further references, typically one to twenty of them, and the total number of pages developed by the manufacturer varies between 2000 and 10000 pages. The book provides guidance and examples what to include in the relevant plans and documents.
