  • ISBN : 9783847378693
  • Pages : 76 pages

Download or read book Liquid Cooled Cpu written by Vinayak Bairagi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power dissipation levels in high performance personal computers continue to increase rapidly while the silicon die temperature requirements remain unchanged or have been lowered. Advanced air cooling solutions for the major heat sources such as central processing unit and graphics processing unit modules uses high flow rate fans to manage the heat load at the expense of significant increases in the sound power emitted by the computer system. Closed loop liquid cooling systems may offer an excellent means to efficiently meet the combined challenges of high heat loads, low thermal resistance, and low noise. This paper describes attributes of an advanced liquid cooling system that can cool heat sources within the computer system. The cooling system described here uses copper cold plates to pick up heat from CPU and highly efficient liquid-to-air heat exchangers to transfer the heat to air by forced convection. A water based coolant is used for high thermal performance and a highly reliable compact pump is used to circulate the fluid in a closed loop. The air cooling used in computers is no longer appropriate to deliver the proper thermal management.

Book Liquid Cooling For data Centers

Download or read book Liquid Cooling For data Centers written by Charles Nehme and published by Charles Nehme. This book was released on with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid cooling for data centers is a technological solution that helps keep computer hardware and other electronic devices running at optimal temperatures. It helps reduce costs associated with energy consumption by cooling the data center’s internal environment without the need for traditional air conditioning systems. Liquid cooling systems are built with a variety of components, including heat exchangers, pumps, hoses, and cooling towers. These components work together to exchange the heat generated from the components in the data center with a coolant, such as water or a refrigerant. The coolant is then cycled through the system and released into the environment, cooling the system and providing a more consistent temperature for the data center. Liquid cooling solutions provide an efficient and cost-effective means for data centers to maintain their optimal temperature and reduce the amount of energy required to run the system.

Book excerpt: In a computer, water cooling or liquid cooling is a system used to reduce the temperature of its hardware, specifically the CPU and GPU. Liquid is more efficient than gas at conducting thermal energy, so liquid cooled machines maintain desired operating temperatures better than their air cooled counterparts. You can check the specifications of your particular CPU at CPU World, which details the maximum operating temperature for many processors. In general you should consider 60 degrees Celcius the absolute maximum for long periods, but aim for 45-50 degrees to be safe

Book Advanced Materials for Thermal Management of Electronic Packaging

Download or read book Advanced Materials for Thermal Management of Electronic Packaging written by Xingcun Colin Tong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-05 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for advanced thermal management materials in electronic packaging has been widely recognized as thermal challenges become barriers to the electronic industry’s ability to provide continued improvements in device and system performance. With increased performance requirements for smaller, more capable, and more efficient electronic power devices, systems ranging from active electronically scanned radar arrays to web servers all require components that can dissipate heat efficiently. This requires that the materials have high capability of dissipating heat and maintaining compatibility with the die and electronic packaging. In response to critical needs, there have been revolutionary advances in thermal management materials and technologies for active and passive cooling that promise integrable and cost-effective thermal management solutions. This book meets the need for a comprehensive approach to advanced thermal management in electronic packaging, with coverage of the fundamentals of heat transfer, component design guidelines, materials selection and assessment, air, liquid, and thermoelectric cooling, characterization techniques and methodology, processing and manufacturing technology, balance between cost and performance, and application niches. The final chapter presents a roadmap and future perspective on developments in advanced thermal management materials for electronic packaging.
