Book Computational Cardiology

Download or read book Computational Cardiology written by Frank B. Sachse and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-01-12 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to computer-based modeling in cardiology, by taking an educational point of view, and by summarizing knowledge from several, commonly considered delimited areas of cardiac research in a consistent way. First, the foundations and numerical techniques from mathematics are provided, with a particular focus on the finite element and finite differences methods. Then, the theory of electric fields and continuum mechanics is introduced with respect to numerical calculations in anisotropic biological media. In addition to the presentation of digital image processing techniques, the following chapters deal with particular aspects of cardiac modeling: cardiac anatomy, cardiac electro physiology, cardiac mechanics, modeling of cardiac electro mechanics. This book was written for researchers in modeling and cardiology, for clinical cardiologists, and for advanced students.

Download or read book Databases for Cardiology written by G.T. Meester and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A database is in principle just a large collection of related or separate data, systematically stored in a computer. It should be possible for the data to be easily entered into the database-structure and afterwards also easily read, corrected and processed. The later analysis of data from such a database is greatly enhanced by the availability of special query languages and statistical analysis programs, not only for serial items but also for large combinations of data. Query languages, such as SQL (Structured Query Language) developed especially for these purposes, make databases easily accessible, also to researchers who may not be very well versed in computer programming. The cardiological/medical clinician and researcher of today is of necessity confronted more and more with computer-based data storage. Interest is of course focused primarily on the clinical use of such databases more than on the technical design itself, except for some very specific, personalized applications. For the latter approach, there are at present many software packages commercially available, especially designed for use in the personal computer environment. This book is comprised out of a number of contributions by various authors with differing backgrounds and from many different countries. The editors, being a cardiologist and an information scientist, have strived to achieve an equilibrium between these two fields. The chapters in this book form a cross-section of the many approaches to database design and implementation in the area of cardiology.

Book Computer Methods in Quantitation of Cardiac Wall Parameters from Two Dimensional Echocardiograms

Download or read book Computer Methods in Quantitation of Cardiac Wall Parameters from Two Dimensional Echocardiograms written by David Sher and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "With increasing use of two-dimensional echocardiograms (2DE) for diagnosis [1, 2], efforts to computerize the process of quantification of cardiac parameters have increased. Visual processing of echocardiograms is time and labor intensive, and usually provides qualitative and subjective results [3]. In contrast, computer assisted techniques are efficient and provide quantitative reproducible results. On the basis of the extent of computer usage, the 2DE processing techniques are classified into three categories, namely, manual [6, 11-41],interactive [42, 44-61], and automatic techniques [67-108]. This work is a structured survey of the published research on these three categories."
