Book COMPUTER SIMULATION OF SPACE CHARGE FLOWS

Download or read book COMPUTER SIMULATION OF SPACE CHARGE FLOWS written by JACK EDWARD BOERS and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital computer programs for the accurate determination of space-charge flows have been developed and are described for several types of electron gun configurations. The effects of space-charge and applied magnetic fields are taken into account and relativistic effects can be included. Direct particle-particle interaction effects are ignored, although d-c thermal effects are given a brief treatment. The computer programs are written in the IBM-7090 FORTRAN programming language and require from four to 15 minutes to execute on an IBM-7090 digital computer. Individual sections of the programs, e.g., trajectory calculations, field evaluations, etc., are shown to be generally within 0.1 percent of theoretical predictions. The overall results are generally within four percent of either theory or experiment. The electrostatic and magnetic convergence and focusing of axially symmetric beams are discussed in detail. A program for the analysis of magnetron injection guns is also described. The importance of cathode edge effects is shown for a crossed electric and magnetic field electron gun configuration. Book Computer Simulation of Space Plasmas

Download or read book Computer Simulation of Space Plasmas written by T. Sato and published by Springer. This book was released on 1985-05-31 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer simulation is now widely recognized as a powerful tool and useful method at the current stage of research in space plasma physics. The expected role of computer simulation is to bridge the existing gap between theories and experiments/observations and to give a profound physical insight into highly tangled and nonlinearly coupled space plasma phenomena. One of the goals of space plasma physics in 1980's and 1990's is to elucidate the quantitative causal relationships of global and local energy flows in space plasma environment and establish the space plasma physics via cooperative studies among three important elements of observations, theories and computer simulations. Based on such recognition, Dr. M. Ashour-Abdalla (UCLA/USA), Dr. R. Gendrin (CNET/FRANCE) and both of us met together at the 20th General Assembly of URSI at Washington D. C. in 1981 to discuss what we should do and what we could do, reaching a conclusion that it is time to establish an International School of Space Simulations (ISSS). The objectives of the ISSS thus organized are firstly to educate and stimulate graduate students and young sCientists, secondly to exchange information on updated simulation techniques and thirdly to have mutual discussions among observational, theoretical and simulational scientists in the field of space physics. The first ISSS were organized by Prof. P. Coleman, Prof. T. Obayashi, Dr. H. Okuda in addition to the above four members. The first ISSS was held at Kansai Seminar House in Kyoto from Nov. I to Nov. 12, 1982.

Book ANALYSIS OF CROSSED FIELD SPACE CHARGE FLOWS

Download or read book ANALYSIS OF CROSSED FIELD SPACE CHARGE FLOWS written by NINO ANTONIO MASNARI and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the dissertation is to investigate the characteristics of space-charge flows in crossed d-c electric and magnetic fields. The investigations include theoretical considerations of rectilinear laminar spacecharge flow, analog and digital computer analyses of electron injection systems and experimental studies of beam characteristics. In general the results provide a better understanding of the operation of injected-beam crossed-field devices. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is twofold: to provide an introduction for newcomers to state of the art computer simulation techniques in space plasma physics and an overview of current developments. Computer simulation has reached a stage where it can be a highly useful tool for guiding theory and for making predictions of space plasma phenomena, ranging from microscopic to global scales. The various articles are arranged, as much as possible, according to the - derlying simulation technique, starting with the technique that makes the least number of assumptions: a fully kinetic approach which solves the coupled set of Maxwell’s equations for the electromagnetic ?eld and the equations of motion for a very large number of charged particles (electrons and ions) in this ?eld. Clearly, this is also the computationally most demanding model. Therefore, even with present day high performance computers, it is the most restrictive in terms of the space and time domain and the range of particle parameters that can be covered by the simulation experiments. It still makes sense, therefore, to also use models, which due to their simp- fying assumptions, seem less realistic, although the e?ect of these assumptions on the outcome of the simulation experiments needs to be carefully assessed.

Book SPACE CHARGE SIMULATION METHODS INCORPORATED IN SOME MULTI PARTICLE TRACKING CODES AND THEIR RESULTS COMPARISON

Download or read book SPACE CHARGE SIMULATION METHODS INCORPORATED IN SOME MULTI PARTICLE TRACKING CODES AND THEIR RESULTS COMPARISON written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space charge in high intensity beams is an important issue in accelerator physics. Due to the complicity of the problems, the most effective way of investigating its effect is by computer simulations. In the resent years, many space charge simulation methods have been developed and incorporated in various 2D or 3D multi-particle-tracking codes. It has becoming necessary to benchmark these methods against each other, and against experimental results. As a part of global effort, we present our initial comparison of the space charge methods incorporated in simulation codes ORBIT++, ORBIT and SIMPSONS. In this paper, the methods included in these codes are overviewed. The simulation results are presented and compared. Finally, from this study, the advantages and disadvantages of each method are discussed.
