Book Classical Mechanics with Mathematica

Download or read book Classical Mechanics with Mathematica written by Antonio Romano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook takes a broad yet thorough approach to mechanics, aimed at bridging the gap between classical analytic and modern differential geometric approaches to the subject. Developed by the author from 35 years of teaching experience, the presentation is designed to give students an overview of the many different models used through the history of the field—from Newton to Lagrange—while also painting a clear picture of the most modern developments. Throughout, it makes heavy use of the powerful tools offered by Mathematica. The volume is organized into two parts. The first focuses on developing the mathematical framework of linear algebra and differential geometry necessary for the remainder of the book. Topics covered include tensor algebra, Euclidean and symplectic vector spaces, differential manifolds, and absolute differential calculus. The second part of the book applies these topics to kinematics, rigid body dynamics, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics, Hamilton–Jacobi theory, completely integrable systems, statistical mechanics of equilibrium, and impulsive dynamics, among others. Unique in its scope of coverage and method of approach, Classical Mechanics will be a very useful resource for graduate students and advanced undergraduates in applied mathematics and physics who hope to gain a deeper understanding of mechanics.

Book Mathematical Methods of Classical Mechanics

Download or read book Mathematical Methods of Classical Mechanics written by V. I. Arnold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many different mathematical methods and concepts are used in classical mechanics: differential equations and phase ftows, smooth mappings and manifolds, Lie groups and Lie algebras, symplectic geometry and ergodic theory. Many modern mathematical theories arose from problems in mechanics and only later acquired that axiomatic-abstract form which makes them so hard to study. In this book we construct the mathematical apparatus of classical mechanics from the very beginning; thus, the reader is not assumed to have any previous knowledge beyond standard courses in analysis (differential and integral calculus, differential equations), geometry (vector spaces, vectors) and linear algebra (linear operators, quadratic forms). With the help of this apparatus, we examine all the basic problems in dynamics, including the theory of oscillations, the theory of rigid body motion, and the hamiltonian formalism. The author has tried to show the geometric, qualitative aspect of phenomena. In this respect the book is closer to courses in theoretical mechanics for theoretical physicists than to traditional courses in theoretical mechanics as taught by mathematicians.

Book Integrable Systems of Classical Mechanics and Lie Algebras Volume I

Download or read book Integrable Systems of Classical Mechanics and Lie Algebras Volume I written by PERELOMOV and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a systematic presentation of a variety of methods and results concerning integrable systems of classical mechanics. The investigation of integrable systems was an important line of study in the last century, but up until recently only a small number of examples with two or more degrees of freedom were known. In the last fifteen years however, remarkable progress has been made in this field via the so-called isospectral deformation method which makes extensive use of group-theoretical concepts. The book focuses mainly on the development and applications of this new method, and also gives a fairly complete survey of the older classic results. Chapter 1 contains the necessary background material and outlines the isospectral deformation method in a Lie-algebraic form. Chapter 2 gives an account of numerous previously known integrable systems. Chapter 3 deals with many-body systems of generalized Calogero-Moser type, related to root systems of simple Lie algebras. Chapter 4 is devoted to the Toda lattice and its various modifications seen from the group-theoretic point of view. Chapter 5 investigates some additional topics related to many-body systems. The book will be valuable to students as well as researchers.

Book The Analysis of Complex Nonlinear Mechanical Systems

Download or read book The Analysis of Complex Nonlinear Mechanical Systems written by Martin Lesser and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1995-09-20 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book covers the fundamentals of the mechanics of multibody systems, i.e., systems of interconnected rigid bodies. A geometric view is emphasized in which the techniques and algorithms are motivated by the picture of the rigid body system as a point in the multidimensional space of all possible configurations. The reader is introduced to computer algebra methods in the form of a system, called Sophia, which is implemented in the Maple symbolic manipulation system. The first chapter provides a motivational introduction to the basic principles and an introduction to Maple. Kinematics based on the idea of tangent vectors to the configuration manifold sets the stage for dynamical analysis. The latter ranges from the Lagrange and Gibbs-Appell to Kane's equations. Coverage includes nonholonomic systems and redundant variable methods. The computer algebra methods included enable the treatment of nontrivial mechanical systems and the development of efficient numerical codes for simulation.

Download or read book Classical Mechanics written by T. W. B. Kibble and published by Imperial College Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fifth edition of a well-established textbook. It is intended to provide a thorough coverage of the fundamental principles and techniques of classical mechanics, an old subject that is at the base of all of physics, but in which there has also in recent years been rapid development. The book is aimed at undergraduate students of physics and applied mathematics. It emphasizes the basic principles, and aims to progress rapidly to the point of being able to handle physically and mathematically interesting problems, without getting bogged down in excessive formalism. Lagrangian methods are introduced at a relatively early stage, to get students to appreciate their use in simple contexts. Later chapters use Lagrangian and Hamiltonian methods extensively, but in a way that aims to be accessible to undergraduates, while including modern developments at the appropriate level of detail. The subject has been developed considerably recently while retaining a truly central role for all students of physics and applied mathematics. This edition retains all the main features of the fourth edition, including the two chapters on geometry of dynamical systems and on order and chaos, and the new appendices on conics and on dynamical systems near a critical point. The material has been somewhat expanded, in particular to contrast continuous and discrete behaviours. A further appendix has been added on routes to chaos (period-doubling) and related discrete maps. The new edition has also been revised to give more emphasis to specific examples worked out in detail.Classical Mechanics is written for undergraduate students of physics or applied mathematics. It assumes some basic prior knowledge of the fundamental concepts and reasonable familiarity with elementary differential and integral calculus.
